1. Transport

1-1. From Sendai Airport to Sendai Station (Sendai City) Sendai airport is about 20 km from the center of Sendai. People who arrive at Sendai airport can take the

‘Train (Sendai Airport Line)’, ‘Airport Limousine Bus’ or ‘Taxi’ to go to the city center.

-The Sendai Airport Line (train)- The train of the ‘Sendai Airport Line’ is the cheapest and convenient way. Since the ‘Sendai Airport

Line’ is linked with JR (Japan Railway Company) line, you can reach the JR Sendai Station without

changing train. The free is 630 JPY (one-way) and it takes 25 min (in case of rapid service 17 min).

Sendai Airport Station directly connects the second floor of the airport terminal.

- Airport Limousine Bus- The bus is also convenient way. Two kinds of buses from different bus companies depart toward the city

central of Sendai.

(1) Airport Liner (Higashi Nippon Express Ltd.); the bus color is blue.

The fee is 700 JPY (one-way). This bus simply connects between the Airport and JR Sendai

Station.

(2) Airport Limousine (Ayashi Kanko Bus Ltd.); the bus color is yellow. The fee is 800 JPY(one-way).This bus will take you directly to the place near the hotel along the

Aoba-Dôri Ave. or Sendai International Center, after stopping near JR Sendai Station

(‘Sendai-Ekimae’ stop). If you go to Sendai Excel Hotel Tokyu or Sendai Washington Hotel (Hotel Leopalace Sendai), ‘Bansui-Sodo-Mae’ or ‘Omachi 2(ni)-choume’ is the stop to get off. You can get the detailed information from http://www.sdj-airport.com/english/access/page1.html

-Taxi-

The ‘Taxi’ will costs about 7,500~8,500JPY (depending on the taxi size or travel time) from Sendai

Airport to the center of the city. Furthermore, an extra highway fee of 500JPY will be charged.

1-2. From Sendai Station (JR) Station to Tohoku University, Sakura Hall The venue of the conference: Sakura Hall is located in Katahira campus of Tohoku University, which is

about 1 km from JR Sendai Station. People who arrive at JR Sendai Station by train (Shinkansen Express

from Tokyo or local train from Sendai Airport) or ‘Airport Liner (Airport Limousine) ’ can go to the site

by 15 minuets walk. Taxi costs about 1100 JPY. Never go to other campuses, which are far outside of

down town.

Notice: Sakura Hall in Katahira campus of Tohoku University is in Japanese

-Walk- From the JR Sendai Station, go straight down the Aoba-Dôri Ave. At the crossing with the

Ichibancho-Street, go to South direction about 300 m and enter from the North gate of Katahira campus. Go further

to South, you will find the Sakura Hall, about 100 m from the entrance. This is the cheapest way, and you can enjoy the beautiful streets of Sendai! (Map is in page 3)

1-3. Tips 1) In front of JR Sendai Station and Sendai International Center, enough numbers of the taxis may be

waiting. If no taxi is there, you can call from the taxi companies

Inari Taxi (022)-241-1122 2) For Sendai City Tourism, ‘Loople Sendai’, which is

the city tour bus, is convenient. The One-day travel card

is 600JPY (250 JPY for one ride). The buses go from

Sendai Station to various sightseeing places located in

the center of Sendai. Each loop trip takes about one hour.

They continue to run every 30 minutes. You can easily

get on and off as you wish and choose your destinations as well as your length of stay at each place.

Pass (Sendai All-you-can-enjoy Free Pass)’ is a useful Two-Days Travel card. The travel card includes

round-trip fares for the JR local train to the tourist spot such as Yamadera and Matsushima. Moreover,

you can take Sendai’s buses (incl. Loople Sendai) and subways for free. The travel card can be purchased

at the station or travel center (2,500 JPY).

2. Exchange

2-1. Withdraw cash from ATM An ATM machine at the post office is available to withdraw

Japanese Yen by your credit card. (VISA, Master, Amex ,..)

You can select the English guidance on the display of the

machine. The ATM is open from 9:00 to 19:00 on weekdays

and 9:00 to 17:00 on Saturday.

4. Dinner -Kokubunchô Area- You can find good Japanese restaurant on Aoba-Dôri, Hirose-Dôri, and Jyôzenji-Dôri Avenue. The

restaurants are mostly concentrated in the area between Bansui-Dôri and Higashi-Nibanchô-Dôri.

Kokubunchô Area is the famous down town in Sendai. There are lots of restaurant, pub and bar along the

Kokubunchô Street.

-Sendai Station Area- Sendai Station area also has a lot of restaurants. There are several restaurants around the west side of the

station, and in the shopping mall. There are also some Sendai’s famous sushi or cow-tongue restaurants

gathered inside the station (3rd floor, beside the entrance of the shinkansen). The underground of S-pal

bldg. (B1F) has also a large food mall of about 20 restaurants.

The SS30 Bldg. is one of the highest buildings in Sendai and there are some restaurants on the uppermost

floor. You will have a splendid view of Sendai at night. It is 10 min walk from Sendai Station.

• Earthquake (According to the web page of Sendai City) Japan is an earthquake prone country. In case of emergency, please pay attention to the following points. Many schools and parks are Designated Refuge Areas ("shitei-hinan-jo"). The nearest designated refuge area is Nishi-Kohen Park neighboring to the conference site. When you feel an earthquake, turn off all gas ovens, heaters and the like. Protect yourself by hiding under the above mentioned safest place to prevent injury. When outside, stay away from cement-block or stone walls that may fall down on you. It is also best to stay away from places where window glass from buildings may fall. Major earthquakes are usually over within one minute. If there has been a serious earthquake, take refuge at the nearest Designated Refuge Area. Go there on foot with as little baggage as possible. Aftershocks and tsunami (tidal waves) in the coast tend to occur, so you should get accurate information through the TV or radio and follow the instructions. If the earthquake was very strong, some TV and radio channels broadcast bilingual news programs immediately after the earthquake. After a big earthquake, contact the Sendai International Relations Association or Sendai International Center, International Exchange and Information Area (Koryu Corner) for information.
