CONSTRUCTION WORK
The Chiriboga
Foundation has
supported
several families
that suffered the
total or partial
destruction of
their homes due to earthquakes or earthquakes of 2016
in the Ecuadorian Coast.
The first part of the work camp takes place in the Province of Esmeraldas, where two black
families are supported, their houses are built, they are accommodated in a house located in a
poverty-stricken neighborhood, they are fed in several places, the construction What will be done
in several stages, we will try to make the foundations of the construction with the help of family
members.
The construction will be done with concrete, brick masonry, blocks and wood.

The houses will be 3 rooms, kitchen, bathroom and social area; it will be developed in five phases.
LIFE IN THE RESERVE OF THE PROYECTO CHIRIBOGA
Experience life in the forest, in a private reserve of cloud forest, located in the Ecuadorian Andes.
The activities that we carry out in the reserve help us to protect and preserve one of the few
remnants of cloud forest.
ACTIVITIES
Organic agriculture: cleaning and care of trees
fruit trees and the construction of an orchard for edible species.
Waste management: create material to perform a proper separation of waste and facilitate its
recycling of materials.
Soil restoration: cleaning and maintenance of roads and
trails to promote soil conservation. Planting of different
plant species in the paddock area.
Protection of water: protection of water sources with
native species planted around riverbeds and streams to
prevent drought.
Recycling of material: use of materials such as tires,
pallets and old wood to build furniture for the use of
volunteers.
Help in construction: we frequently improve the infrastructure to make more comfortable the
accommodation of the volunteers. This year, our goal is to build more bedrooms for the
accommodation of future volunteers and the job is to build the base of the bedrooms.

Raise awareness about the importance of forest
conservation and its impact on water protection,
through non-formal education and field experience.
WORK
The work in the reserve includes working with
tools such as shovels and machetes, being in
contact with the ground, plants that means
being ready to get dirty! And accept manual
works that are presented as urgent at the
moment.
LEISURE
Afternoons after work are free to do any kind of
group activity such as sports, swimming in the river, walking around, or simply enjoy around a
campfire.
WHAT TO BRING
You do not need to spend a lot of money on special mountain clothes, it is enough to bring your
clothes that you do not mind if they get damaged. It is preferable to wear long pants and long-
sleeved shirts to protect yourself from mosquitoes.

HOW TO GET TO THE CASA DE LA FUNDACIÓN IN QUITO FROM THE MARISCAL SUCRE AIRPORT
IN TAXI: Chiriboga Foundation can book a taxi that brings you from the airport. The cost of the trip
is 30.00 dollars, which must be paid by the volunteer directly to the taxi driver.
If you take a taxi on your own, ask the driver to go south of Quito, to the Barrio La Magdalena.
From the Church of La Magdalena, the taxi driver should take Cañaris Street in the East direction,
reaching Princesa Toa Street, turn right one block south until Puruhá Street, turn right again onto
Puruha Street West direction and you will find a mural painted with the theme Chiriboga Cloud
Forest on the left roadway.

THE MOST ECONOMIC WAY TO ARRIVE FROM THE AIRPORT TO THE HOUSE OF THE ORGANIZATION.
For those who do not have more than one suitcase and want to save money, if you arrive before
18:00. You can take the last bus from the airport to TERMINAL QUITUMBE, the last bus departs at
19:00, the cost is US $ 2.50. When you arrive at the Quitumbe Terminal you can take a taxi, the
cost varies between 5.00 to 6.00 dollars (depending on traffic). If you need more information on
how to get there, do not hesitate to contact us!
PLUGS IN ECUADOR
The electricity is the same as in the United States, 110-120v. Generally you will not need a voltage
converter for your electronic devices. The plugs are type A like the ones you see in the picture, you
probably need an adapter.
General Rules to volunteer in our Workcamp
� The volunteer will self-prepare emotionally and intellectually by investigating more about
the placement where he/she will assist.
� The volunteer must send their flight information to the Foundation via email.
� The volunteer will respect the new culture and its traditions
� The volunteer will respect work and food itineraries
� Our Workcamps are free of drugs and liquor, Disrespecting these rules may result in
immediate dismissal without any refund
� Smoking inside the house is not allowed. Cigarette butts and ash must be properly disposed.
� The volunteers will help with some house cleaning like doing the dishes or cleaning the
bathroom, sweeping the floor.
� The volunteers will take care of the furniture, kitchen utensils, house keys, etc. If you broke down or lost items in the project, please replace as soon as possible.
� Any complaint against the local project or accommodation must be reported to the
Foundation’s Coordinator in order to look for any immediate solution.
� The volunteers are responsible to keep their bedroom and belongings tidy.
� The volunteer must have the courtesy to always clean and dry the shower room after use.
� Volunteers must inform the Foundation in advance about their vegetarian diet or any food
allergies.
� Toilette paper or any feminine sanitary products are not to be flushed in the toilet in any
place of Ecuador
� Do not forget to blow off candles ,whenever possible, please use flashlights
� For your personal security please follow the safety rules
� Fees are not refundable if the volunteers decide to cut their placement because of personal
plans or any kind of reason. So please plan your trip, time and budget accordingly.
