Background
The Arab world is an exciting, dynamic place to serve! All too often the only images we see of the Arab people are of militant and violent extremists. The reality, however, is that most Arabs are hospitable and generous. They are also hungry for true friendships.
WEC International has worked in the Middle East since 1923. Currently the Arab World Middle East team’s ministry includes work in Jordan and Syria.
We are thankful for the open doors we have for living and working in these countries. For a number of years the area

Working in teams provides fellowship and support. The varied gifts and experiences of the team members strengthen the witness among the people we are seeking to reach. Teams are currently targeting the following unreached people groups: urban Arabs, the Bedouin and Palestinian refugees.
If your heart’s desire and prayer to God is for the salvation of the unreached people of the Middle East, then we are waiting to hear from you!

Orientation
Long-term workers begin their time on the field by studying Arabic for two years in either Jordan or Syria. During this time of language study they have the chance to begin to understand the culture, to visit and develop relationships with neighbours, and to share their faith with ever-greater clarity and ease. During language study we provide opportunities for new workers to see various existing ministries and encourage them to pray about the particular ministry and area to which God may be calling them. Workers are placed in existing teams and ministries according to their gifts and calling.

has been affected by turmoil and wars, and now many Palestinians, still grieving the loss of their homeland, live in Jordan and Syria. Although there have been wars in the surrounding nations, these two countries have not experienced war themselves since 1973.
Although there has been a Christian presence in this area since the time of Christ, Islam has dominated since the 7th century. To Muslims Jesus is little more than a prophet and they strongly reject His divinity and death on a cross. After centuries of persecution, most traditional Christians find it difficult to reach out to their Muslim neighbours with the love

Opportunities
The team ministers among a people who desperately need to know the loving God who calls us His children. At the present time we work primarily in Jordan with a new work starting in Syria. We have many opportunities for long-term and short-term service on our field.
Medical care, teaching English as a second language, community development, working with children, teaching the children of our workers, and working in professional jobs as ‘tentmakers’ are just some of the ways through which we reach the people in the Middle East.
Our goal is church planting and we desire to share Christ with the unreached peoples of the Middle East, to teach believers to obey the Lord Jesus and to gather them in multiplying fellowships.

of Christ. As a result, Christian witness is largely restricted to the bigger cities.
Work in this area of the world can be tough and slow going. It requires patience and faith to trust in the unseen hand of God. As we work, we pray for the people around us and ask the Lord to remove the veil from their hearts that prevents them from seeing the truth of Christ. We believe that God is building His church among these people and that He will set many free from their spiritual bondage. The Bible not only contains many references to Arabs, but also includes promises about them.
