INFORMATION TO YEAR 2 PARENTS/CARERS 2017

WHAT'S CHANGED?
• No more levels • Scaled scores and raw scores • Year 2 ‘National Standard’ • Similar tests - new curriculum

STATUTORY ASSESSMENTS• 2 reading papers; 2 maths papers; 1 grammar/punctuation paper; 1 spelling paper.
• Tests can be taken any time in May. • All papers marked in school and all ‘Teacher Assessment’.
• However, we are provided with a scaled score.

READING - OVERVIEW• Paper 1 answering questions in a single booklet. Paper 2 has a reading pack and a separate answer booklet.
• Paper 2 is far more demanding. • Teacher assessment focused on word reading speed (90 words a minute) and fluency.
• Much less weight on comprehension but test papers require higher level comprehension skills.

•Less focus on creativity. •Apply grammar/punctuation more accurately.
•Spelling and spelling patterns expected. •Focus on joined handwriting. •Now looking for a ‘Best Fit’.

• It is broken down into ‘Science Content’ and ‘Working Scientifically’.
