Page 4: Informational Interview

The first day of the job starts with the companies experience, which includes members of HR

available to answer any questions, as well as training on Homelife/Miracle policies and

procedures.

ORGANIZATIONAL STRUCTURE

Marketing Department – The content of the website, advertisements, promotions, emails

newsletters, SEO (Search Engine Optimization), Social Media Presence, planning

seminars/expos, and data gathering are all responsibilities of the marketing department. An

effective marketing department will adapt to new mediums of promotion, for example social

media, to keep ahead of the pack.

Sales – Does not involve just onboarding new clients, but also maintaining relationships with

existing customers to ensure a satisfactory experience; a large portion of a broker’s revenue is

generated from traders who are pleased with their broker. Business development as well as IB

Page 5: Informational Interview

relationships also falls under this category. Due to the world-wide appeal of FX, the sales

department should have round the clock shifts.

IT – The IT department is responsible for the overall maintenance of the firm’s servers,

network, telephones and individual PCs. Additionally, the IT department must backup all

sensitive data as well as have an emergency plan in place for unforeseen outages. This final

point is crucial for a brokerage since stability in online-trading is a must.

Compliance – All legal aspects of the brokerage are handled by the compliance department.

This includes accounting, settling disputes such as trade audits as well as lawsuits. Since large

amounts of money are transacted in an FX brokerage, it is essential to have a compliance

department.

Support – The main responsibilities of this department are to provide real-time support to

customers. This includes answering inquires as well as performing specific account related

request such as deposits, withdrawals, and closing accounts. To stay competitive, a support

staff should also have round the clock shifts.

Finance – Naturally all monetary decisions fall under the umbrella of the finance department.

The execution model of the brokerage, for example, an STP set up, will make it easier or more

difficult to predict revenue. Many departments will work closely with the finance department

so it is important the staff is well versed in all facets of the business.

Human Resources – The human resources department has the same responsibilities you would

find in any business. They are responsible for finding qualified candidates for your fx brokerage

and should work closely with all department heads in job description creation to ensure that it

clearly represents the desired skills for an fx brokerage team member that may be outside of

the human resource department's area of expertise. HR would also be responsible for creating

an employee handbook and managing internal personel issues such as vacations, conflicts, etc.

Office management would be responsible for supplies and infrastructure vendors and fall under

the preview of human resources.

INSIGHTS OF THE ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

LOYALITY AND MUTUAL RESPECT: The interviewee was very concerned about the loyalty and

mutual respect as these are the two pillars for the relationship between the broker and the

customer. A broker should be loyal towards the customer and the customer too should have

respect for the broker. Both the parties should have faith on each other and this will surely

make the deal more profitable for both the sides.

OUTCOMES OF THE INFORMATIONAL INTERVIEW

INTERVIEWING SKILLS: This interview helped us to enhance our interviewing skills as we were

not confident enough to take the interview of a senior person as its obvious that he knows

much more than us so we prepared ourselves ahead of time by practicing again and again in

front of the mirror and moreover we were answering the questions to each other. This helped

us to build up our confidence and now we are feeling more confident than before.

ACTIVE LISTENING: During the interview, we were trying to understand and interpret what he

was trying to convey. Initially, we were not able to do that but as the interview goes on all of us

were able to understand his way of delivering the responses and we were impressed by the

words he was using to answer the questions. The interview made us listen to what he was

saying as we were there to get the answers to my questions. So indirectly it also enhanced our

listening skills because we have to write the answers to each question and for that we have to

listen him actively.

AWARENESS OF OUR STRENGTHS: There were many things that we were confused about that

whether we possess them or not but during the time of interview all the group members were

coming up with the counter questions that we were not planning to ask but the situation was

demanding those questions and we all were participating actively. For eg: Rajwinder asked him

that does he have his own house or not which was quite funny but he answered to that too.

So the overall experience was very good but there were some other things that we felt are to

be improved in all of us because there were some questions that made the situation little

awkward like there were some personal questions which he refused to answer. So from this we

came up with the idea that the questions should be chosen wisely and moreover the

Page 8: Informational Interview

interviewee should feel free to answer the questions. And the time should also be a key factor

to be kept in mind while framing the interview questions as the person we interviewed was

very curious to leave the rooms as soon as possible as he might be busy in some other work I

guess and we took enough time of his for the interview. So time is a major factor to be

considered.
