CONNECTED SPEECH DEFINITION: Spoken language as it is used in a continuous sequence, as in normal conversations. There is often a significant difference between the way words are pronounced in isolation and the way they are pronounced in the context of connected speech. Another definition is connected speech in linguistics, a continuous sequences of sounds forming utterances or conversations in spoken language. Analysis of connected speech shows sounds changes affecting linguistics units traditionally describes as phrases, words, lexemes, morphemes, syllables, phonemes, or phones. The words that are modified by those rules will sounds differently in connected speech than in citation form (canonical form or isolation form) Canonical form: In morphology and lexicography , a lemma is the canonical form, of a set of words in English like run, runs ran. Isolation form: The isolation form of a morpheme is the form in which that morpheme appears in isolation (when not subject to the effects of any other morpheme). CONNECTED SPEECHDEFINITION:Spoken language as it is used in a continuous sequence, as in normalconversations. There is often a significant difference between the way words arepronouncedin isolation and the way they are pronounced in the context of connected speech. The words that are modified by those rules will sounds differently in connected speech than in citation form (canonical form or isolation form)Canonical form: In morphologyandlexicography, alemma is the canonical form, of a set of words in English like run, runs ran.Isolation form: Theisolation formof a morpheme is the form in which that morpheme appears in isolation (when not subject to the effects of any other morpheme). In other words, what are the connected speech? When we speak naturally we do not pronounce a word, stop, then say the next word in the sentence. Fluent speech flows with a rhythm and the words bump into each other. To make speech flow smoothly the way we pronounce the end and beginning of some words can change depending on the sounds at the beginning and end of those words.

EXAMPLES AND OBSERVATIONS:Connected speechis more than just a string of individual target segments joined together in series, since each segment is liable to influence the segments that surround it. The precise form that these influences take is determined by the particular language in question, and so the phonologyof connected speech is part of the phonology of the language that the child has to master.CHANGES IN CONNECTED SPEECH ARE DESCRIBES AS FEATURES OF CONNECTED SPEECH.

Sounds link: Linking is a way of joining the pronunciation of two words so that they are easy to say and flow together smoothly. In English there are different ways that this happens.Consonant to vowel linking: when the first word ends with a consonant sound and the second word begins with a vowel sound.

Vowel to vowel linking: when certain vowels come next to each other an extra sound is added to make the link smooth.

Linking r: In standard British English (RP) the letter r after a vowel sound at the end of word is often not pronounced. However, when the following word begins with a vowel the /r/ sound is pronounced to make a smooth link.

Sounds disappear: When the sounds /t/ or /d/ occur between two consonant sounds, they will often disappear completely from the pronunciation.

Sounds join together: When a word ends in a consonant sound and the following word begins with the same consonant sound, we dont pronounce two sounds both sounds are pronounced together as one.

Sounds change: When a word ends in a consonant sound and the following word begins with a consonant sound, depending on the particular sounds, the last sound of the first word or both the last sound and the first sound of the next word can change.

DEFINITION OF FEATURES OF CONNECTED SPEECH:

Weak form: When we talk about weak forms in the phonetics of English this regards a series of words which have a one pronunciation (strong) when isolated, and another (weak) when not stressed whitin a phrase.

Assimilation : In order to comprehend the mechanisms of assimilation some comprehension of the production of speech sounds is needed.

Yod coalescence: Yod is the name of the smallest letter in the Hebrew alphabet it stands for the vowel /i:/ or the semi-vowel /j/. In English phonetics Yod coalescence is a form of assimilation, a phenomenon which takes place when /j/ is preceded by certain consonants most commonly /t/ and /d/.

Elision: Elision is very simply , the omission of certain sounds in certain contexts.

R- Linking: The phenomenon of r-linking is based on the fact that, by default, in Standard British English (though not in many other accents of English), /r/ in syllable final position is not pronounced.

The glottal stop: The glottal stop is a plosive created by complete closure and then opening of the glottis (vocal folds). The symbol for this sound is:(?) ,a sort of question mark without a dot at the bottom.

INTRODUCTION: people who speak English naturally dont pronounce each word in isolation to facilitate spoken English, they delete, weaken, change and even insert sound. The fluent speech with such phonological features is called connected speech, are some aspects examples of phonological processes involved in connected speech commonly named features of connected speech in the next report we will see in detail the connected speech and his features.

CONCLUSION: In conclusion we have to know the connected speech is necessary for speak fluently using of the features like assimilation, elision, glottal stop etc. for that reason is important learn about all of this aspects and we have to use in the daily life.
