IMPORTANT 2017 DATES

1 Corinthians 12:12-27 “Now you are the body of Christ, and each of you is a part of it.”

After a car crashed

and rolled down an

embankment, people

stopped to see if they

could help the victim.

The vehicle then

caught on fire, and

police were not

immediately at the

scene. Time was of the essence and the embankment was steep,

so a dozen people grabbed hands and formed a human chain.

Together, they pulled the driver up the steep hill to safety.

This letter to the Corinthians describes the importance of working

together, comparing believers in Christ to a human body. The

physical body is one unit that is composed of many distinctive

parts. God created each individual part of the body to be

necessary. They work together in order for the body to function

successfully. This is also true for the body of Christ. While we may

sometimes view ourselves as independent and unique, God has

designed us to work together as one cohesive unit and to help one

another in our spiritual journey.

The apostle Paul imagines what might happen if our human body

parts were able to speak. The foot gets quite rebellious in verse 15,

suggesting it will leave the body because it is not a hand. In a bit of

humorous absurdity, the text asks, What if the entire body was an eye or an ear? Of course, the answer is ridiculous. That could never

be! It couldn’t function! Every part of the body is important and

relies on the other. The point is clear. We should realize that we rely

on each other.

This changes the way we value each member. We should have

“equal concern” for each other (v. 25). This also negates division

within the body of Christ. We are designed by God to work

together. We are individually gifted and united in purpose.

From the

Principal…..

Hope is a value that is the cornerstone to each of our lives. If we don’t live in

hope it is difficult to live, love, learn and blossom each day.

The noun definition of hope is, ‘a feeling of expectation and desire for a

particular thing to happen’(www.dictionary.com/browse/hope).

At St John’s we are all about living and learning in hope. Our teachers are

always looking for ways for their students to experience hope in their learning.

They are conscious of providing a learning environment that will feed that

expectation and desire in a positive way.

I have another true story to share with you about a student living in hope for something to occur.

Another of our Foundation students has been very busy at home

practising her writing skills. Both parents thought nothing of it at the

time. Each night she would ask how to spell this person’s or that

person’s name. She had managed to find a few of her old

leftover birthday invitations and unbeknownst to her parents,

decided to write invitations to a number of her peers, inviting

them to an Easter party at her place. She proudly handed them

out at school. Miss Indi Cluse was living in hope of having an

amazing Easter party at her place with her friends. Her planning and determination to make this

happen was certainly evident. It wasn’t until sometime later a young child asked Mrs Kathy Cluse about

when this Easter party was occurring. It was the first time Kathy had heard anything about the party

and had to quickly find out what was going on and correct this misunderstanding without upsetting her

daughter or her friends. Having hope in our lives can directly contribute to the amazing things we can

achieve and make possible. The St John’s staff members are still trying to convince Kathy how

wonderful it would be to have an Easter party for the whole school community at her place, but she

doesn’t seem convinced.

As Christians, we live in hope because of what God has done for us in sending His son to die for us. As

we get closer to Easter we all can continue to grow in hope for each other and feel blessed to be

saved because of what God did.

Congratulations

Congratulations to the P&F team for successfully attracting funding through the ‘Parent Initiative in

Education Grant Programme’. This funding is for the purpose of employing an expert to come out to

speak to everyone about how we as parents can help to support our children with their learning if they

have learning needs. Please keep a look out for information in our school newsletter about when this

will occur.

Parent/Teacher Interviews

Parent/Teacher Interviews will be held on Monday 10 April and Tuesday 11 April 2017. We have set up

an online booking system where parents and caregivers will be able to book a suitable time to meet

with teachers. A letter will be sent home to families today which gives step by step instructions on how

to book times for your children. Bookings open on Friday 24 March 2017 and close at 4.00pm on

Thursday 6 April 2017. If you do not have access to the Internet or need help with entering your

bookings, please come into the school for assistance.

Uniform News

In Term Two, the requirement is for students to wear winter uniform. However, due to the possibility of

warm weather occurring early in Term Two, students may wear either summer or winter uniforms during

Weeks One and Two ONLY. A letter with a uniform price list will be sent home tomorrow so that parents

are able to order with plenty of time to spare before the changeover.

I have asked staff to follow through with uniform notices as many children are not wearing correct hair

or jewellery. I thank you in advance for continuing to support our school by adhering to this policy.

Excerpt from Uniform Policy

HAIR:

Hair should be neatly styled and kept clean.

Hair which is shoulder length and below MUST be tied back and kept out of the face.

NO artificial hair colour should be evident.

No student’s hair to be cut shorter than 6mm (#2 clippers).

Plain navy blue hair ties, clips, combs, bands, ribbons or fabric scrunchies may be worn.

(Decorative and fashion items are not acceptable.)

Plain gold or silver clips, thin black elastic hair ties and bobbie pins are also acceptable.

JEWELLERY:

Wrist watches can be worn to school and the band colour must be plain brown, black, gold or

silver and they can only be closed by a clasp or buckle fastener.

Children may wear no more than one pair of earrings of plain gold or silver round studs or sleepers

for pierced ears - no more than one earring in each ear lobe.

A small, plain gold or silver cross no greater than 25mm in size can be worn on a fine gold or silver

chain around the neck under the uniform as an optional extra.

No other jewellery or nail polish will be permitted, with the exception of a Medic Alert Indicator.

Have a blessed week.

Transdisciplinary Theme: Who we are

Concepts: Function ~ Connection ~ Responsibility

Lines of Inquiry:

The importance of safety and rules

The people who care for our safety

Ways we can keep ourselves safe

Approaches to Learning: Social Skills

Learner Profile Attributes: Thinker ~ Reflective

Attitudes: Cooperation ~ Integrity

Mr Blasche—Year One/Two

Central Idea: We all have the right to be safe

As part of the focus for our Unit of Inquiry in the Junior Primary classes was to develop an

Essential Agreement. The point of this Essential Agreement is to work with the students to

develop a set of classroom expectations, which the students agree to and then sign. This fitted

in with our Unit of Inquiry as it linked with our line of inquiry, ‘the importance of safety and

rules’. Below is our Essential Agreement, which we put onto a canvas and melted crayons

around to make it really stand out. Students discussed the process of melting crayons onto the

canvas and what was required for it to work.

On Friday 17 March Blake Mosey, Jude Geister and Mitchell Roebuck went to Adelaide to

compete at the SA Aquatics and Leisure Centre in Marion. We were part of the Barossa and

Light SAPSASA team. Blake competed in the 11 year old boys 4 x 50m Freestyle Relay and

finished fifth overall. Jude competed in the 10 year old boys 50m Freestyle and the 10 year

old boys 4 x 50m Freestyle Relay. He finished fifteenth and sixth in the relay. Mitchell competed

in the 10 year old boys 50m Breaststroke and the 10 year old boys 4 x 50m Freestyle Relay. He

finished fourteenth and sixth in the relay.

It was a great day and a great experience being able to swim in an Olympic sized pool with

lots of spectators in the crowd.
