Infrastructure improvements have always been one of my top priorities and I have been advocating for sidewalks on Market Street since the very beginning, so I am proud to say that the construction on the south side of Market Street from Euclid Avenue to Pitta Street is finished. The project improvements include approximately 3,700 linear feet of sidewalks, driveways, curb ramps, new streetlights, and improved pedestrian crossing to the Valencia Park/Malcolm X Branch Library.

The south side project began in January 2016 and was completed earlier this month. It was completed under budget and on schedule thanks to the design and construction of the City of San Diego’s Street Division and Transportation & Storm Water Departments.

The project now provides safe pedestrian access for the Valencia Park, Emerald Hills, and Encanto communities to go to the Valencia Park/Malcolm X Library, the Legler Benbough Teen IDEA Lab, the Jacobs Center, the trolley station, and all of Market Street Plaza.

$4.36 Million Park Development at Chollas View

On Tuesday, March 7th, my Council Colleagues and I unanimously approved the development of a $4.36 million public pocket park on Guymon Street for the Chollas View community.

The Chollas View community public pocket park is designed to include a children’s play area, shade structures, barbeques, benches, exercise equipment, synthetic turf, restrooms, a drinking fountain, and security lighting.

Addressing Homelessness in San Diego: Council President Myrtle Cole will hold a Special City Council meeting regarding homelessness on Monday, March 20th at Golden Hall, Civic Plaza, San Diego, CA 92101 starting at 1:00 p.m.

This meeting aims to provide actions and solutions to address homelessness including the construction of transitional and permanent housing for the homeless.
