TRAINMONITOR® SUBSYSTEMMonitoring and Control

of Tramway operations

TRAINMONITOR® supports the operations scheme and scheduling by a dynamic and adaptive timing correction which would compensate each tramway running delay. This is made in order to obtain an overall regularization on the line runs.

The regulation scheme try to keep time table adherence and stable headways against small random schedule deviations.

The tramway actual position is reported to Central Operations Control in both linear and time-position formats against a background theoretical schedule, as it was conceived in the planning stage. TRAINMONITOR® acquired this background information while in the configuration phase.

TRAINMONITOR® is therefore able to transfer requests and assignments to any individual on-board control application, to say to any TRAINCONTROLLER® application. This down link can be either over radio channels or train-to-track local loops. In this latter case the information is firstly gathered in TRAINVIEWER® to whom all loop signals are relayed and, but successively, sent down to the tramway. In the opposite direction, the position/time information of the single tram reaches at the TRAINMONITOR® application.

If the regulation requires a traffic light priority, it is assumed that the priority request/assignment is delivered to the TRAINWAY® module, which, in its turn, will interact with the traffic light's controller.

Moreover, TRAINMONITOR® develops the arrival time forecasts at stops and sends them to the relative message poles, through the intermediation of the TRAINVIGILANTE® module.

Therefore, TRAINMONITOR® necessarily requires TRAINVIEWER® and TRAINCONTROLLER® to enter in a cooperation scheme.Should already be there a UTC control system , centralising urban traffic control and user information other than TRAINWAY® and TRAINVIGILANTE® subsystems, the connection will be between these and TRAINMONITOR®

In addition to headway and arrival time forecast-and-correction, TRAINMONITOR® produces various performance indicators, which are useful for the schedule planning and implementation.

Technical features:

The schedule adaptive process actually takes place on each individual vehicle but, furthermore, stop and waiting times or traffic light priority are repeatedly reckoned to satisfy an overall performance function.
