The Cisco Virtualization Experience Client 6215 (VXC 6215) running the Cisco Virtualization ExperienceMedia Engine (VXME) delivers superior voice and video collaboration capabilities in desktop virtualization.It unifies voice, video, and virtual desktop in one device.

The Cisco VXC 6215 provides workers with secure, real-time access to business applications and contentwithout compromising the collaborative user experience. Cisco VXC 6215 supports the following capabilities:

• Combines virtual desktops with voice and video capabilities.

• Supports processing capabilities that use network and data center CPU resources efficiently.

• Supports high-quality, scalable voice and video, delivering an optimal user experience.

The Cisco VXC 6215 provides support for the following hosted virtual desktop protocols:

• Citrix Independent Computing Architecture (ICA)

• PC over IP (PCoIP)

• Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP) (does not support the VXME add-on)

Cisco VXC 6215 Initialization (INI) files are plain-text files that you can construct to contain the configurationinformation you want for your thin clients on a global level. For example, you can use INI files to configureand save information about connection settings, display options, and printer options.

Information and procedures that are presented in this guide are intended for use by system administratorsand should not be used by untrained persons.

In this chapter you will learn how to construct and use the supported INI files.

After you become familiar with the INI file basics, you can refer to the parameter details you need in theother chapters and appendixes of this guide.

Supported INI FilesThe INI files contain the parameters (and associated options and values) necessary for the functionality youwant.

You can construct the following INI files:

• wlx.ini file

• {username}.ini file

• $MAC.ini file


The INI file processing hierarchy is as follows:Important

• Scenario 1—MAC.ini exists. The MAC.ini file is processed and if the Include=WLX.ini statementis included, then the WLX.ini file is processed.

• Scenario 2—MAC.ini exists and {username}.ini exists. The MAC.ini file is processed and if theInclude=WLX.ini statement is included, then the WLX.ini file is processed. Once the credentialsare provided, the {username}.ini file is processed.

• Scenario 3—WLX.ini exists. The WLX.ini file is processed.

• Scenario 4—WLX.ini exists and {username}.ini exists. The WLX.ini file processed. Once thecredentials are provided, the {username}.ini file is processed.

• Scenario 5—No ini files exist. Local configuration is applied.

wlx.ini FilesA wlx.ini file contains the global parameters you want that will affect all thin clients accessing the server.Parameters in both wlx.ini and $MAC.ini File Parameters Only, on page 11 and wlx.ini, $MAC.ini, and{username}.ini File Parameters, on page 31 can be used in a wlx.ini file.

Parameters in wlx.ini and $MAC.ini File Parameters Only, on page 11 can only be used in a wlx.ini or$MAC.ini file; they cannot be used in a {username}.ini file.

$MAC.ini FilesA $MAC.ini file can be used instead of a wlx.ini file for device-specific configurations. If the thin clientlocates a $MAC.ini file (it is stored in the same directory as a wlx.ini file), then the wlx.ini file is not accessed,unless you use the include=wlx.ini parameter.

Note also that the placement of the include=wlx.ini parameter within the $MAC.ini file will dictate whichvalue will take priority for a same specific parameter that is contained in both the wlx.ini file and the $MAC.inifile but is defined differently (different values for the same parameter).

For example, if the wlx.ini file has parameterA=valueB, and the $MAC.ini file has the sameparameterA=valueC, then:

• If the include=wlx.ini parameter is included in the $MAC.ini file before the parameterA=valueC statement,then the wlx.ini parameterA=valueB is discarded and parameterA=valueC (from the $MAC.ini file) isthe final value used.

• If the include=wlx.ini parameter is included in the $MAC.ini file after the parameterA=valueC statement,then the $MAC.ini parameterA=valueC is discarded and parameterA=valueB (from the wlx.ini file) isthe final value used.


Getting Started: INI File Basicswlx.ini Files

{username}.ini FilesA {username}.ini file contains the user-specific or user profile parameters you want that will comprise theconnection profile for an individual user. These parameters will affect only the user you specify. Parametersin wlx.ini, $MAC.ini, and {username}.ini File Parameters, on page 31 can be used in a {username}.ini file.

User profile parameters (found in the {username}.ini file) generally override the identically named globalparameters (found in the wlx.ini file), however, some global parameters do not allow this (for hierarchicalprecedence of one variable over another, refer to the parameter descriptions in wlx.ini, $MAC.ini, and{username}.ini File Parameters, on page 31).

Note

If both PNAgent/PNLite and a user profile are being used in the environment, the username must bedefined in theWindows domain to be used, and the password used must be the same for both theWindowsdomain and the user profile.

Caution

Rules and Recommendations for INI FilesIn general, Enhanced SLE INI files follow currently accepted standard INI file formatting conventions. TheINI files consist of parameters that you can enter as necessary for reference. When you create an INI file, theonly required parameter that you must use is the Connect parameter. You can use any of the remainingparameters if you desire, but they are not mandatory unless you require changes from the default values. Everyparameter (and the associated options) has a name and a value with the name appearing to the left of the equalsign (name=value). All parameters with the same name in the various INI files have the same meaning (thatis, a parameter named XYZ in a wlx.ini file and named XYZ in a $MAC.ini file have the same meaning).Number signs (#) indicate the start of a comment. Comments can begin anywhere on a line. Everythingbetween the # and the End of Line is ignored.

Along with these general formatting conventions, use the following guidelines when constructing the INIfiles:

1 Global Connect Parameters First

List global connect parameters before other connect parameters in a wlx.ini file.

2 Connect is the Only Required Parameter

As previously stated, when you create an INI file, the only required parameter youmust enter is the Connectparameter. You can enter other parameters as desired, but they are not mandatory unless you requirechanges from the default values.

To create a connection using an INI file, you must specify the Connect= parameter, as well as the mandatoryconnect options associated with the specified connection type (for example, forMozilla Firefox or VMWareView). For more information about the Connect= parameter, including configuration examples, see ConnectParameter Options, on page 49.

3 Continue Lines by using a Space and Backslash

To indicate line continuation, place a space and backslash (\) at the end of a line. The backslash meansthat the line and the following line are, for the purposes of reading code, the same line. No white space

can appear after the backslash; the requirement of white space between parameter entries is maintainedby the use of the space before the backslash.

Do not insert any spaces after the backslash, otherwise the device may not be able to parse the INI filecorrectly.

Note

In addition, starting all parameters at the left margin and placing at least one leading space (or tab) at thebeginning of all (and only) continuation lines makes an INI file easier to read.

Note that in circumstances where you require string concatenation, you can use a backslash without aspace before or after it to concatenate with the first set of characters from the previous line; for examplethe strings snow and ball may be concatenated to give snowball.

You must use the backslash continuation character to configure a connection with multiple parameters.For examples, see Connect Parameter Options, on page 49.

4 Blank Lines Make Files Easy to Read

Use blank lines to make the code easier to read.

5 Comment by using a # Sign

As stated previously, number signs (#) indicate the start of a comment. Comments can begin anywhereon a line. Everything between the # and the End of Line is ignored.

6 Values with White Spaces Require Quotation Marks

You must place parameter values containing white spaces inside quotation marks (use common-practicenesting rules).

7 Separate Lists by using Semicolons or Commas

Use semicolons or commas for list separators.

8 {username}.ini Files must be Write-Enabled

All {username}.ini files must be write-enabled to allow the thin client to place the encrypted user passwordsin the files.

9 Use the wlx.ini File to Set the Maximum Number of Connection Entries Allowed

The combined number of connection entries that you define in a wlx.ini file cannot exceed a defined totalmaximum number of connections. The maximum number of connections has a default limit of 216, butyou can modify this limit within a range of 100 to 1000 using the wlx.ini file.

10 Use System Variables with Some Options of the Connect Parameter

Some options of the Connect parameter can use the system variables shown in the following table to mapthe string. All combinations of the variables are supported. For options that support use of system variables,see Connect Parameter Options, on page 49.

This chapter provides the supported parameters that you can use in a wlx.ini file and in a $MAC.ini file.

Parameters in the following sections can only be used in a wlx.ini file or $MAC.ini file; they cannot beused in a {username}.ini file.

Caution

The underlined value for a parameter is the default value. Some parameters also have options shown withinbrackets [ ]. If an option has an underlined value (default), that option and default value will automaticallybe used with the parameter (options without underlined values can also be used if you want to, but are notautomatically used with the parameter). In addition, when using parameters and options, you can leavethe default value or change it to another value shown.

For example, in the following case where:

ParameterX={yes, no}

[Option1={0, 1}]

[Option2={1, 2, 3, 4}]

If you use ParameterX, then Option1 and its default value 0 will automatically be used as Option1 has anunderlined value (default of 0). You can still use Option2 if you want to, however, Option2 is notautomatically used with the parameter as Option2 does not have a default (underlined) value.

wlx.ini and $MAC.ini File General SettingsThe following table describes the parameters that you can use to configure general settings. Default valuesare underlined. You can use the parameters in a wlx.ini file or a $MAC.ini file.

Specifies the new password for the guest user. You can use any third-partybase-64 encoder/decoder.

ChangeGuestPassword=<base-64 encoded password>

Specifies the new password for the root user. You can use any third-partybase-64 encoder/decoder.

ChangeRootPassword=<base-64 encoded password>

Specifies the new password for the thin user. You can use any third-partybase-64 encoder/decoder.

ChangeThinUserPassword=<base-64 encodedpassword>

Default is no.

By default, CiscoVXMEoperates in Dual VLANmode (formore information,see theDeployment Guide for Cisco Virtualization ExperienceMedia Engine).

If you do not plan to use Dual VLAN configuration, use this parameter todisable Dual VLAN detection and enable faster startup for the Cisco VXC6215.

Valid values are:

• Yes—If Cisco.Config.DisableDualVLAN=yes, Cisco VXME skipsDual VLAN detection and starts in single VLAN mode.

• No—If Cisco.Config.DisableDualVLAN=no or has any other value(including invalid values), or the parameter is not present, the clientapplies the default behavior (Cisco VXME attempts to detect andconfigure the Dual VLAN at startup).

Cisco.Config.DisableDualVLAN={no|yes}

Specifies the default sign-on user. See also AutoLogin.DefaultUser=<username>


wlx.ini and $MAC.ini File Parameters Onlywlx.ini and $MAC.ini File General Settings


Default is no.Yes/no option to disable top full screen drop-down menu bar.

Disablemenubar={no, yes}

Default is yes.Specifies whether to disable the ready mode. When a device is shut downand ready mode is enabled, the device logs out of the session, places thepower button LED in a state of off, and then goes into Suspend mode. If auser presses the power button again, the device wakes up immediately forthe user to log in.

The ready mode functionality can be enabled using DisableReadyMode=no.

Example:

DisableReadyMode=no will enable ReadyMode functionality.

DisableReadyMode=yes will disable ReadyMode functionality.

DisableReadyMode={no, yes}




Important: Put the parameters on the same line. This is the generic syntaxof INI parameter for 802.1x settings for aWired connection. Parameter usagewill be based on the use case and EAP method chosen. For example: If youuse Active Directory login to the thin client, user credentials are not requiredin the ini.

Enable802—Default value is no.Yes/no to enable or disable 802.1x settingsfor Auto Eth0 Wired connection.

Yes—Enables 802.1x settings for Wired network.

No—Disables 802.1x settings for Wired network.

Authentication—The authentication method (EAP method) to be chosen for802.1x.

Username—Username used for inner authentication.

Example: In an Active Directory environment this is the Active Directoryusername used for MSCHAPv2 exchange.

Password—The inner authentication MSCHAP password. In an ActiveDirectory environment this is the Active Directory user password used forMSCHAPv2 exchange.

PromptPassword—Default value is no.Yes/no option to prompt or not promptfor a password every time for 802.1x authentication when the network comesup. Default value is "no".

Identity—The identity/username you chose while creating the client/usercertificate. Used for TLS authentication.

InnerAuthentication—The second EAP type inside the PEAP or TLS tunnel.Used only in case of PEAP and Tunneled TLS authentications.

UserCertificate—The client/user certificate name. Used for TLSauthentication.

CACertificate—Root CA certificate name for authentication.

PrivateKey—Client/user private key certificate. Used for TLS authentication.

PrivateKeyPassword—The password given during the creation of a user/clientcertificate. This should be a base64 encoded password.

PeapVersion—Default value is Auto. PEAP protocol version.

PACProvisioning—Automatic PAC Provisioning for FAST authentication.

PACFile—PAC File for FAST authentication.

Example: Below is an example ini for 802.1x PEAP MSCHAPv2authentication in the case of a domain user login to a thin client.

Yes/no option to enable G key reset. G key reset is supported forPrivilege=High.

Default is no.Yes/no option to enable full screen mode (when selected it will disable theDesktopsize option).

Default is no.Configures the action of the device for an idle state.

If IdleAction.Enable=yes and the device is idle for the IdleAction.Timeout(in minutes from 0 to 1440), then the device executes the command that isspecified in the IdleAction.Action parameter.

By default, IdleAction.Enable=no.

Example:

Default is no.Indicates whether to import certificates from the server. Certs is a list ofcertificate names (the names must be separated by a semicolon).

Yes/no option to automatically log the user in as DefaultUser ifno login occurs before the CountDown interval. This is for useat kiosks and other environments where the user logs in withouthuman intervention. Autologin can be canceled by pressing theESC button. The first time a device reads Autologin, it may stayat the login screen for a few seconds before taking effect. Oncedoing so, it will automatically log in and all future reboots willautologin with the defined delay. Changing fromAutoLogin=yesto AutoLogin=no may require 2 reboots to take effect in somecases. No password is required for automatic login even if theuser normally needs a password.

SignOn=no and AutoLogin=yes are alternativeparameters/ways to provide similar functionality.

Note

SignOn=no and AutoLogin=yes should not be usedtogether. In general, use AutoLogin; SignOn=no isbeing deprecated. AutoLogin=yes logs in as thedefault user; which may be set via the DefaultUserini-file parameter; the privilege level is that user'snormal privilege level; determined in the samemanneras if they had logged in manually.

Caution

ADVANCEDNOTE:Any valid user may be specified; but notethat PNA and Active Domain users will not obtain a passwordfirst; which may prevent them from accessing the Published Appsor Domain services. If there is no DefaultUser specified in theregistry, it will use Guest.

Note that for both SignOn=no and AutoLogin with a short delay,it is quite likely that the login process will proceed before thenetwork is up and the wlx.ini file has been read. This means thatchanges to the wlx.ini login parameters will not take effect untila logout or reboot.

Note also that changes to the System/DefaultUser orSystem/PrivLevel registry keys do not automatically adjust thelogin parameters; that is normally done only after fetching andparsing a wlx.ini file when a network interface comes up. If youneed to change the parameters outside that sequence; use the/sbin/configureGDM script to modify the system's loginconfiguration.

The wlx.ini will be fetched and processed every time the networkcomes up; so if the network goes down and is restored during asession, it may affect existing settings (although the login-relatedsettings will not be apparent until the current user logs out).

Also note that neither mechanism actually authenticates theuser—they just verify that the user exists. But both methods, andnormal manual login, will fetch and process a $USER.ini file, ifone exists, independent of what, if any, authenticationmechanismwas used.

AutoLogin={no, yes}

C H A P T E R 4wlx.ini, $MAC.ini, and {username}.ini FileParameters

This chapter provides the supported parameters that you can use in a wlx.ini file, a $MAC.ini file, and in a{username}.ini file.

The underlined value for a parameter is the default value. Some parameters also have options shown withinbrackets [ ]. If an option has an underlined value (default), that option and default value will automaticallybe used with the parameter (options without underlined values can also be used if you want to, but are notautomatically used with the parameter). In addition, when using parameters and options, you can leavethe default value or change it to another value shown.

For example, in the following case where:

ParameterX={yes, no}

[Option1={0, 1}]

[Option2={1, 2, 3, 4}]

If you use ParameterX, then Option1 and its default value 0 will automatically be used as Option1 has anunderlined value (default of 0). You can still use Option2 if you want to, however, Option2 is notautomatically used with the parameter as Option2 does not have a default (underlined) value.

• server specifies to use the INI file server only. If the fileserver is not available, the device does not fall back to thelocal cached INI file.

Privilege controls operator privileges and access to thin clientresources for the INI user.

This parameter is not applicable to default users such asadmin and thinuser.

Note

Value and Operator Privileges:

High— (default) For administrators. All thin client resources areavailable with no restrictions. A high-level user can reset thedevice to factory defaults.

Low— For a typical user. Access is granted to the ConnectionManager and desktop panel, but not theMore Applications buttonor Control Center. Users can view connections, but not add ormodify them.

None— For a kiosk or other restricted-use deployment. Usershave access only to icons put on the desktop by the administrator,not the Connection Manager, desktop panel, More Applicationsbutton, or Control Center.

If optional LockDown=Yes the system saves theprivilege level in the flash device. If LockDown=No,the system clears the privilege level from the flash deviceto the default unlocked state.

Note

LockDown— Default is no. Yes/no option to lock the defaultprivilege for the thin client. If LockDown=Yes, the privilege issaved in permanent registry; if LockDown=No, the privilege levelis set to the default high in the permanent registry.

The default high privilege level is stored in the permanent registry;if you do not specify a privilege in either the wlx.ini or{username}.ini files or the network is unavailable, the setting ofthe Lockdown parameter takes effect. It can be modified by aclause. For example,

Specifies the desktop background color where <primary color>and <secondary color> can be one of the following values:

• RGB color specification in the form commonly used inHTML (rrggbb).

• A color name from the /usr/share/X11/rgb.txt file. Note thatthese names are case sensitive.

• Three integers in the range of 0 to 255 representing theamount of red, green, and blue, respectively (for example0 119 255).

This form is deprecated. It is available forbackward compatibility only.

Caution

Note that an optional shading can be specified (solid,horizontal-gradient, vertical- gradient).

The <primary color> is the primary color and the one which willbe used if no shading is specified or if the shading is solid.

The optional <secondary color> is the secondary color.

When shading is specified (for example Deskcolor="DarkGoldenrod horizontal-gradient LightGoldenrod"), theprimary color (in this example, DarkGoldenrod) appears on theleft (horizontal) or top (vertical) edge with a smooth transition tothe secondary color (in this example, LightGoldenrod) on theopposite edge.

wlx.ini, $MAC.ini, and {username}.ini File Parameterswlx.ini, $MAC.ini, and {username}.ini File Peripheral Settings


Default is no wallpaper.Desktop-Specifies an image file to use as wallpaper for the localdesktop. The file must be located in the wlx/bitmap directory onthe server. The image file can be any type that is supported bySUSE/GNOME for use as wallpaper (such as PNG, JPG, andGIF). The filename is case sensitive.

Layout- Default is Center. Specifies the arrangement on thedesktop background of the specified image file. The tile valuereplicates the image across the desktop; the stretch value adjuststhe image to fill the screen; the scale value enlarges the image tofill either the screen width or height.

Opacity- Default is 100. Specifies the amount of transparency.At less than 100, the image is blended with the colors specifiedby the DeskColor option as though the image is not entirelyopaque. A value of 0 indicates total transparency, and the imageis not displayed at all.
