MY INITIAL IDEAS FOR MY
MAGAZINE.
Ceara Barker
Audience Profile.
Sub-culture.
The sub-culture for my magazine is indie/hipster.
This would ideally target a mainstream audience.
The general age bracket for my magazine would be around 15-30.
Like most indie magazines, the gender is focused mainly towards males.
Sub Genre.
The music I expect my average reader to listen to is typical modern indie.
Title of magazine.
The title I plan to use for my magazine is ‘Check’.
The connotations around this are simply that typical ‘indie kids’ tend to wear checked shirts.
Masthead. Ideally, this is the masthead design that I
plan to use for my magazine.
However I did some other research in order to weigh up my options;
CHECK CHECK CHECK
Ideas for my front cover…
I plan to make my front cover similar to this.
I wanted to add a couple of other images as well as the main cover image, this is to make sure the audience know what features they will be reading from the minute they pick it up.
I also plan to make the main cover image a close up/ medium close up. This is so that you can see clearly what the model is wearing but you can still see facial expressions equally as clear.
I plan for my main cover image to have the model using direct gaze.
This is to engage the audience and draw them in.
It also creates a more intense feel.
Ideas for contents page. I plan for my contents
page to look similar to this.
This because there are quite a lot of pictures throughout the page to show what’s on each page.
It also shows the exact articles that will be seen in the magazines, I plan to incorporate this into my contents page.
Ideas for main splash article. For my main splash article I either want to
do a band interview..
If I decide to use an interview for my main splash article I
will be using a series of questions, and sending them
via email to a band I know personally. This will then be written onto my double page
spread.
Or a gig review…
This is a good example of what my double page
spread would look like if I decided to do a gig review. I would include images from a small live gig of a band that I know, then write a
short article about the gig itself.
Ideas for splash article images (gig review idea)…
These are images that I took of a band I know in October last year…
Models…
I plan to use 3 different models, all of which I have already asked to photograph. These are my models..
Other article (contents) ideas. Gig review/band interview (depending on which
I decide to use for my main splash article) Festival review Win tickets to a gig/festival ‘Noah and the Whale bare all!’ ‘Jam live on stage with Benjamin Francis
Leftwich’ ‘Must have albums’ section ‘Singles of the month’ ‘New video alert’
Colour Schemes…
I think this colour scheme would be ideal for my magazine as they are quite bright
colours that grab your attention. Modern Indie music tends to be quite loud
and catchy, therefore I think these colours would suit my sub-genre.
This colour scheme on the other hand, is the opposite to the one seen on the
last slide. Some people argue that typical old school indie is quite mellow and chilled out, therefore this colour scheme would
be more fitting to this style of music.
Price/frequency of my magazine. I plan for the frequency of my magazine
to be monthly. This would mean an appropriate price
for each issue would be £4.50.
