Initial Ideas SWOTSKiya Persad
My first idea was on street art, how it is viewed either as vandalism or as an art form.
Initial Idea 1
Original take on topic Great visuals Interesting topic to cover Well thought out and detailed A question is asked to the audience to make
them think Interviews already lined Good message Good to target audience as it’s relevant
Strengths:
Not many people like graffiti Some people might say that graffiti art is
already seen as art so may be asking a question already been answered
Some people might say that it is too specific to London
Weaknesses:
Talk to police and community to get their view
To change the stereotyping of vandalism being bad
Interview art teacher People that do graffiti Many places to film graffiti art – Clapham,
Brixton
Opportunities:
Prosecution – Cover this by keeping artists anonymous
Positive Art may not be reliable Getting a professional opinion may be hard
if you don’t have the contacts Could be hard to find out about graffiti
Threats:
My second idea was to look at how female technicians and producers are viewed in the music differently to male technicians.
Initial Idea 2
Really focused idea Good contacts Something I’m interested in pursuing as a
career Challenging the stereotype Interviews in mind already Relevant topic Appeals to target audience
Strengths:
Limited target audience – Too niche? Maybe you should film someone who found
it hard to get into the music industry
Weaknesses:
Could interview independent/freelance female technicians
Interviewing female producers who struggled to get where they are
Could contact a music/record company Soundcloud - upcoming artists Explore various music genres, some more
accessible
Opportunities:
Will you have enough people to speak to? Not very original Getting expert technicians as well as
personal contacts Getting technicians and producers willing to
interview Might be hard to see someone’s journey as
it might take a long time
Threats:
My third idea was looking at a social experiment style of documentary where I took someone’s phone for 24 hours to see how they lived without it.
Initial Idea 3
Good idea because youths are really affected by this.
Good experiment to document Demonstrate alternative Relevant to today Relevant to target audience Seems appealing to watch Original structure
Strengths:
5 minutes may be too short ‘Not everyone is addicted to their phone’ Will it be engaging visually May not appeal to target audience, because
of the person being documented
Weaknesses:
Could explore different types of phones Explore advantages and disadvantages Include fact and figures Include impact phones have Maybe have people of different ages to
compare
Opportunities
Being without their phone for a day may not affect them that much
Finding someone to do the experiment may be difficult
Might be too time consuming to edit Is the Buzzfeed experiment too similar How much experiment needed?
Threats:
My fourth idea was to look at dieting and is it so popular?
Initial Idea 4
Very interesting and educational documentary
New topic Good to listen to people discussing as it is
happing in a session Relevant to target audience A lot of different factors that contribute to
this Current issue
Strengths:
‘Diets aren’t necessarily bad’ May come across as boring How will it be visual?
Weaknesses:
Interview people of different sizes Include facts and figures Look at companies and campaigns on ‘the
perfect look’ in media Alternatives? Are types of food the real issue?
Opportunities:
Not very original People may not want to speak on their diets Should focus more on people starving
themselves rather than dieting Who will you interview? Which experts?
Threats
