Initiatives at an international level to preserve landraces and crop wild relatives Landraces and crop wild relatives are threatened and suffering from genetic erosion due to a number of factors, such as climate change, habitat loss and changes in farming practices. Therefore, the following initiatives are being undertaken at an international level to promote the effective preservation and sustainable use of landraces and crop wild relatives: 1. Genetic research to enhance the identification and use of adaptive traits in crop improvement; 2. In situ management and conservation; 3. Inventorying, ex situ conservation in gene banks and regeneration in dedicated nurseries; 4. Legal protection and the establishment of closer links between stakeholders; 5. Promotion for their increased utilisation in agriculture and plant breeding; and 6. Systematic threat assessments of priority species. Initiatives at an international level to preserve landraces and crop wild relativesLandraces and crop wild relatives are threatened and suffering from genetic erosion due to a number of factors, such as climate change, habitat loss and changes in farming practices.

Therefore, the following initiatives are being undertaken at an international level to promote the effective preservation and sustainable use of landraces and crop wild relatives:
