During a fault condition, a circuit breaker withexcellent current limiting ability such as TemBreakPlus, can substantially reduce damage to the electricalsystem and thus minimise downtime. This current limiting feature reduces the peak letthrough current (Ipeak) and energy let through (I2t)during fault conditions.

Terasaki's TemBreak Plus MCCBs achieve thisexceptional current limiting performance by utilising aunique contact structure which we call the Fast BreakMechanism (FBM).The U-Shaped contact of this mechanism assists in theelectromagnetic repulsion of the contact tips for fastarc extinction. The 50kA PowerBreaker Series uses oneFBM per pole whilst the LimitorBreaker Series usestwo FBM per pole to achieve its rating of 85kA.

The need for a continuous and reliable power supplyplaces increased emphasis on selectivity requirementsin today's electrical distribution system. The Selectivity Series utilises microprocessor basedprotection, giving enhanced selectivity. This ensures3:1 ratio between the upstream and downstreamMCCBs. For further details please refer to theselectivity table on page 31 of this catalogue.

The majority of distribution systems are designed to anultimate short circuit rating (Icu). An Icu rated MCCBprovides the optimum protection in terms of safe andeconomical selection.Certain applications may require protection which isdesigned to the more onerous service short circuitrating (Ics).Terasaki's TemBreak Plus range can provide a widechoice of MCCBs with superior Ics ratings up to 85kAat 440V AC.

High Demand Applications

Very often, MCCBs must grade with other protective devices that may not have adjustable characteristics. This could be either a downstream fuse or an upstream electricty authority relay. Each microprocessorbased TemBreak Plus can achieve as standard over 200,000 independant time current characteristics. Thisunique curve flexibility enables TemBreak Plus to achieve full selectivity even in the tightest of gradingsystems.

Flexibility

In addition to TemBreak microprocessor MCCBsbeing the most flexible on the market, a number ofimportant features are available as STANDARD!Most other MCCB manufacturers offer theserelevant features at a premium price.

Provision of adjustable LTD T1 settings and STDT2 setting are important to match the protec-tive characteristic to the load requirement. Itis also extremely useful to provide flexible grad-ing with other devices.

When co-ordinating between MCCB and fuses,it can often be difficult to obtain the requiredselectivity due to the different shape of the timecurrent curves. With a flick of a switch the I2tramp can be enabled to make grading easier.

Inductive loads such as motors often producea transient inrush on initial switching. In thisapplication it is important to have anadjustable instantaneous trip to set above thisinrush current.

Electronic office equipment is being increasingly usedin today's buildings and factories. The power demand at peak time can reach overloadlevels of the breakers installed in the system. If such asituation continued a sudden trip may be generatedby the long time-delay trip function of the breaker. The pre-trip alarm prevents this 'sudden trip' by trippingout non-essential loads thus ensuring an uninterruptedsupply to essential loads.

TemBreak Plus MCCBs from 125AF to 1600AF aresuitable for isolation as defined by IEC 947-2. PositiveContact Indication (PCI) is achieved via the togglemechanism.Padlocks can only be installed if the contacts are fullyopen.

As well as microprocessor MCCBs from 125A to 1600A,Terasaki is one of the few manufacturers who can stilloffer a complete range of Thermal Magnetic MCCBsup to 800AF. The thermal adjustment of the TemBreakPlus range, 63% to 100% of the nominal rating, is oneof the biggest on the market. This proven form of electromechanical technology stillrepresents by far the largest type of MCCBs sold onthe European Market.Wouldn't you prefer the choice?

High Frequency Harmonics Detected

TemBreak MCCBs employ a True R.M.S. detectionthrough a process of sampling and integrating.Even those MCCBs that claim True R.M.S. may only doso up until the 3rd or 5th Harmonic. Ignoring higherfrequency harmonics can lead to 'under protection'of the conductor. By utilizing a high sampling rate of500 µsec TemBreak microprocessor MCCBs detect upuntil and including the 19th Harmonic.

Auxiliary Trip (AX, AXE)

Electrically indicates On/Off statusof the breaker.

Alarm Switch (AL,ALE)

Electrically indicates when thebreaker is in the “Tripped” state.

Shunt Trip (SHT)

Remote tripping of the breaker

Undervoltage Trip (UVT)

Automatically trips the breakerwhen the circuit breaker fallsbelow pre-set value. Remotetripping of the breaker is alsopossible.Note: The UVT controller isinstalled externally, when providedwith AC UVT. (Refer to page 23)

UVT controllerIf the UVT is for AC use a UVT controller must be installed. Standard installation of the UVTcontroller is on the left side of the breaker. However, this may be installed in a separate location(please specify). Separate installation is standard for breakers fitted with Mechanical Interlocks.A time-delay UVT controller is available with the same outside configurations (please contactTerasaki for details). For the UVT controller mounting position and accessory lead terminal blockarrangement refer to pages 74-75 of catalogue ‘98-I20E.

CAUTIONARY NOTESIf the motor operator is turned ON with thebreaker OFF and the UVT de-energised,apply the power and complete one ON-OFFoperation. (The breaker cannot be turnedON). Then complete one ON operation again(The breaker can be turned ON)

When the breaker is ON and is then tripped, the ON/OFF indicator on the motor operatorwill be indicating ON until the breaker is reset.Note: The breaker’s condition may differ.Note: Allow several minutes to cool when athermal-magnetic breaker is tripped by athermal overload trip, then reset the breaker.

Reference NotesPermissible operating voltage range asfollows:AC rated, 85 to 110% of the rated voltageDC rated, 75 to 110% of the rated voltageNote: AC rated operating voltage 380V or 400-460V a power transformer is available(optional)

Requires breaker’s auxiliary switch (1b-contact). This will be wired at the factory (onrequest) when the breaker/motor operatorassemblies are ordered. However, when allthe auxiliary switch contacts are specified forother purposes, an external auxiliary relay (notsupplied) is required to be controlled by theauxiliary a-contact of the breaker and use therelay’s normally closed contact (b-contact) forautomatic reset.

Time values at the rated operating voltage.Allow a longer time for the motor operator tocomplete the operation, at lower operatingvoltage.

The motor operator is of a short time duty. Donot subject it to more than 10 continuous ON-OFF operations. If this occurs, allow the motoroperator to cool for at least 15 minutes.

Maximum values at 110V ACMaximum values at 220V ACSpecial specification, available on request.
