An Input Device is any peripheral computer hardware used to provide data and control signals to an information processing system, i.e. a Computer.

Many input devices can be classified according to: modality of input (e.g. mechanical motion, audio, visual,

etc.) the input is discrete (e.g. key presses) or continuous (e.g. a

mouse's position, though digitized into a discrete quantity, is fast enough to be considered continuous)

the number of degrees of freedom involved (e.g. two-dimensional traditional mice, or three-dimensional navigators designed for CAD applications)

Examples of Input Devices

There are many examples of Input Devices that can benefit Disabled people such as Braille keyboards for blind people.

Specialist mice and keyboards that require no strength to use are for people who have limited or no use with their hands.

Speech Recognition Software can also help people with the above problems and is also useful for everyday life for non-disabled people as it makes life simpler and can prevent RSIs, or Repetitive Strain Injuries, which can occur from using a Computer too much.

There is also Screen Magnification software, again for visually impaired people and Communication and Translation software for deaf people.
