ANZAC EVE LANTERN VIGIL EASTER SUNDAY 24 APRIL 2011 6.00pm Cenotaph In memory of ALL the victims of war Within the catastrophe of WW1, the soldiers of Australia and New Zealand demonstrated such valour they signified and proclaimed an independent, self-reliant colonial power in the SW Pacific Ocean. WW1 was the first industrialised war, where slaughter was mechanised. The overwhelming message from its poets and soldiers was “Never Again!” ANZAC Day honours the fallen, and remembers the futility of war. Now the WW1 generation has passed, our craven politicians use ANZAC Day to glorify war, and to justify their commission of war, Without our consent – mostly against poor tribal peoples. This world in arms is not spending money alone. It is spending the sweat of its labourers, the genius of its scientists, the hopes of its children. This is not a way of life at all in any true sense.
