We have reached the last month of 2020, and what a year this has been! I think it’s safe to say for all of us that this year has not gone according to plan. At best, this year has been inconvenient. At worst, this year has been one of lose and grieving. Because this year has been so challenging it can feel a little strange for us as we head into the Advent and Christmas seasons. It can be hard to enter into a season that is traditionally filled with joy and celebration when you may not feel like cele-brating or may not even be able to have your normal family get-togethers to cele-brate. Yet, as Christians, we truly do have reason for joy this December. In Luke 2:10 we hear how an angel appeared to the Shepherds on Christmas and proclaimed, “Fear not, for behold, I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the peo-ple.” In this world we may have hardship, trouble, disappointment, and grief, but as Christians we also have the great joy of knowing that our Savior was born on Christmas day. As Christians we have the good news of knowing that Jesus has saved us from this world of sin and that God is with us, even in the midst of chal-lenges and difficulty. In Psalm 27 we read, “The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life; of whom shall I be afraid? . . . For He will hide me in His shelter in the day of trouble; He will conceal me under the cover of His tent; He will lift me high upon a rock.” When the world sends trouble our way and we are tempted to give up, despair, and give into fear, God calls us to remember who He is and His promises to us. Jesus is our light and our salvation, and the darkness cannot overcome Him (John 1:5). Even in the day of trouble, God cares for us, protects us, and draws us near to Him. These promises are ours because Jesus was born on Christmas. God does not stay far off, rather He enters into our world and into our suffering to give us hope. So fear not, for behold, we have news of great joy that is for all the people. It is the birth of this living hope that we anticipate and celebrate this December. .

Joy Lutheran Church Basement Present: Jan Elder, Elaine Belsheim, Gretchen Beecroft, Diane Althoff, Sara Elmstrand, Carol Gibson, Jessica Nelson Guest, Jessica Nelson, Rum River Zone President, met with the Women of Joy to present informational up-dates. The 2020 spring and fall rallies were cancelled due to the COVID 19 pandemic. Rush City will plan to have the 2021 spring rally in April and Crown will host the 2021 fall rally in October – pandemic pending. The spring planning meeting will be hosted by Rush City in January. It is possible that some of the meetings will be held virtually. The April rally may also be hybrid. Jessica will update our societies as the planning goes forward. The LWML is planning to go ahead with the National Convention held in June. The president and vice-president from each zone will be sent as delegates. We are also looking for a young representative (between the ages of 25 – 35 years) to attend. Any questions can be directed to Jessica and/or Pastor Renstrom, Zone Counselor. Elaine led the Bible Study, “The Power of Words”. From the 2020 Fall LWML Quarterly. President Sara opened the business meeting. The secretary’s minutes were approved as printed. We have also paid $75.00 for our dues which covers the cost of 15 LWML Quarterlies. Old business: Diane shared information from former Pastor Dave Buuck and Brian Buuck regarding mis-sions. Brian stated that he is now a professional translator and is not presently in need of mission support. Pastor Buuck gave Diane background information regarding Tim and Beth Heiney who are missionaries in Guinea, Africa with Global Union Outreach. Carol made a motion that we support Tim and Beth Heiney be-ginning in January with a $25.00 per month stipend. Elaine seconded the motion.
