MONTHLY NEWSLETTER OF FAITH CHURCH
JUNE 2017
Twenty-five years ago this month, Faith Church began. For the
first several years, worship services were primarily held on
school campuses. Later on a church building was built, the
membership grew, and community service efforts abounded.
What does God have in store for us during the next 25 years?

Do you remember when you turned
25 years old? I remember it was the first time I felt like I was turning “old.” I was in my first year of seminary. I was living on a university campus and was surrounded by undergraduate college students. The age difference in years was minimal, but when my younger friends referred to me as “old man,” I understood exactly what they meant. I wasn’t a kid anymore. No turning back. Fortunately, years down the road, I would have many more opportunities to feel “old” again. And isn’t it funny that when you look back at those times you felt old in the past, you realize how young you actually were. This month, Faith Church turns 25. Do we feel “old”? Maybe. We’ve been

through a lot. We’ve grown a lot. Hopefully, we’ve matured a lot. But wouldn’t it be interesting, if years down the road we are to look back at June of 2017, and say to ourselves...we thought we were old...but we had only just begun! It is a privilege to serve in a church that is so young...and so old. We are an established community of faith with a strong foundation. And we are also full of potential to continue to grow in God and in number and in our community. I look forward to Faith’s next 25 years! It will be exciting to see where God takes us. Yours in Faith! Pastor Rob Hunter

October 27, 2013—Last Sunday Worship with Pastor Jim Mory. Followed by a one-year Search and Call process, with Pastor Todd Weber serving as Interim Minister.
When the Oak Hammock K-8 School opened Faith Church initiated a relationship with them that our parking lot could be used by parents to park and walk their children to school in the morning and pick them up in the afternoon. We further supported them by gathering school supplies every August and deliver them before the new school year started.
Learn To Read Program: Originally designed to help adults learn to read, it became more of a program for people who immigrated to the United States to learn to read and speak English.
Share Florida Program: Families and individuals could purchase food at low cost on a once-a-month basis. A team of people drove to West Palm to pick up orders and bring food back to church where another team packaged the food for people.
March 15, 2001—First Thursday Night Meal was served; they continue to this day.
November 19, 2000—The first worship service in the new building at 2199 S.W. Savona Blvd. was held.
Church operated Miss Audy’s Thrift Store on Bayshore Boulevard for a couple of years. Store closed around the time of the fires in PSL, April 1999. Audy Luhr was very benevolent to Faith Church over the years through contributions to the operating budget and a $500,000 donation to the Building Fund.
September 1998—Moved to St. Lucie West Middle School.
June 1998—Moved to Treasure Coast Christian Church for three months (now Lutheran Church).

June 1993—Moved to warehouse space on Peacock in St. Lucie West.
September 1992—WPSL gave Faith Church a 30-minute spot on Sunday mornings at no cost which continued for 21 years. Since then, Faith Church has been supporting WPSL Christmas Kids with toys and financial gifts. This includes a Pancake Breakfast for many years, and all proceeds go to help this effort.
June 7, 1992—First Worship Service held at Barry University Campus in St. Lucie West, now Florida Atlantic Campus.
February 6, 1992—Morys move to Port St. Lucie. The Florida Conference and United Church of Christ had purchased property at the corner of California and Heatherwood Boulevards in St. Lucie West, now All Villages Presbyterian Church.
October 19, 2014—First Sunday with Pastor Rob Hunter.
June 11, 2017—Faith Church celebrates 25 years!
April 15, 1999—Fires in Port St. Lucie; 43 homes destroyed, many others damaged. Fire burnt through church property at corner of California and Savona.
Announcements
The Faith Church Logo was designed by a local PR company. It features three palm trees and the sun and water. The three palm trees symbolize the Trinity, the community of Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. The Sun is the light of God that serves as a “Lamp for our feet and a light for our path” as we travel through this world. It is rising, not setting to symbolize the new possibilities of faithful service at the beginning of each new day. It symbolizes the present, not the past. We celebrate faithful service of the past but we do not live on the success of the past nor our failures. What we do today matters. The water symbolizes Baptism and new life.
