The goal of the event was to unveil the new BAE degree to prospective and future students and other individuals in the community, as well as, provide an opportunity for current students to connect with alumni. More than 50 persons were in attendance. Dr. Janice Seabrooks-Blackmore welcomed everyone and spoke of the rich history of Deaf Education at UNF. Alumni shared about their experiences both in the program and in the field since graduation. Finally, Drs. Caroline Guardino and Jennifer Renée Kilpatrick spoke about the new BAE degree program prerequisites, requirements, and opportunities. DEPARTMENT OF LEADERSHIP, SCHOOL COUNSELING AND SPORT MANAGEMENT

The UNF/COEHS Educational Leadership Doctoral Program hosts a monthly mentoring session where students at various stages in the dissertation process learn with/from one another! Kudos to Dr. Sophie Maxis, Dr. Amanda Pascale, Dr. Anne Swanson and Brenda Skeete for helping to make our "Cross-Cohort Collaboration" session a success. We had our largest number of participants ever for this monthly event!

C.A.M.P. Osprey was recently featured in a cover story in Palatka Daily News. The COEHS and Taylor Leadership Institute is partnering with Mellon Elementary School to offer C.A.M.P. Osprey's virtual mentoring to their students. The program pairs college students with public schools students to develop college and leadership skills. Mentors hold weekly leadership mentoring sessions based on the 7 Habits of Highly Effective People. In December the students and mentors get to meet on the UNF campus. Principal Joe Theobold would like to expand C.A.M.P. Osprey next semester since it has had such a positive impact on their students.

Rudy Jamison (LSCSM Instructor) and Justin Lerman (CIRT staff, EdD student) lead our highly successful virtual mentoring initiative, which is funded through the support of the Community Foundation of Northeast Florida. The mentoring program, directed by Dr. Matt Ohlson, utilizes both virtual and face-to-face mentoring and has expanded to 8 schools in the region. Here is a snapshot of the news featured in their local newspaper. Well done!

Dr. Terence Cavanaugh had an annotated edition of a book published, Frances Hodgson Burnett’s The Secret Garden: Annotated with Reading Strategies. This book contains all of Frances Hodgson Burnett's 1911 classic "The Secret Garden" enhanced with over 125 reading strategy experiences from over 45 areas to help guide readers and allow students to practice their strategies. Each chapter has multiple strategies embedded in the chapter to assist readers to read with purpose and become an active reader. Additional resources; such as, links to free audio versions and online tools are also provided. The book is designed so that students and teachers can use this text to assist students needing extra guidance with their purposeful reading strategies or just as an instructional or practice resource.

Dr. Andrea Buenaño and Dr. Matthew Ohlson presented at the International Association for Research on Service-Learning and Community Engagement (IARSLCE) Conference in New Orleans. The presentation focused on the program design and development of the UNF CAMP Osprey leadership mentoring initiative.

To celebrate the retirement of Dr. Ellie Scheirer and honor her 43 years of service to UNF, two of Ellie’s doctoral students who are now professors at UNF, organized parties for her. The 70s themed party on August 18, which was hosted by COEHS and attended by over 80 faculty, staff, retirees, and friends, was organized by Dr. LaDonna Morris (Cohort 10) and the potluck party for Ellie’s doctoral grads (20+ and she is still working with 9!) and was held at the home of her most recent graduate, Dr. Ellen Glasser (Cohort 18) on September 17. Thanks to everyone who

contributed their time,

resources, wine, song, and gifts to make these very

memorable events! The gift

of an Osprey Paver from the Leadership, School Counseling, and Sport Management Department is now in place right in front of the UNF Bookstore. Our conversation with a purpose continues!
