Friends of Necedah National Wildlife Refuge
donates to The Bank of Mauston’s annual
Back-to-School Supply Drive
This August, Friends of Necedah National
Wildlife Refuge made a large contribution to The
Bank of Mauston’s annual Back-to-School Supply
Drive. The organization gave a total of $600 in
school supplies to be evenly distributed among the
Mauston, Necedah and New Lisbon school
districts.
Speaking on behalf of the group, Mary Jean Bean,
President of Friends of Necedah National Wildlife
Refuge, said, “We feel any way we can support
children in the area in their education - both in
their classrooms and here at the refuge in our
‘outdoor’ classroom - we are supporting the
children. We are pleased to able to partner with
The Bank of Mauston in this manner.”
The Bank of Mauston is very appreciative of this
donation and would like to say thank you to
Friends of Necedah National Wildlife Refuge - as
well as other community members - who helped
The Bank of Mauston carry out its goal of helping
our community grow - one child at a time.

A letter from the New Lisbon Schools Superintendent!
Thanks to the community for all your support to our students and staff. We are off to a great start for the 2012-
2013 school year. Most people have been very positive about the beginning of the year. I know the suspending
of student fees made a difference to a lot of families. We started with some valuable in-service time for staff
working on the Common Core Curriculum, Professional Learning Communities and a data retreat to give our
staff better information as to how our students have been doing on state tests. The custodial and maintenance
staff did a great job in getting the buildings ready for school to start.
We welcome new staff members to our school and community, Dan Sagert teaching 6th
grade, Leslye Keltner
teaching 6th
-8th
grade Special Education and Nancy Mischler teaching Business Education.
A few positive changes were made this year in the elementary, a 30 minute intervention period was added,
guidance classes are now taught at the same time allowing common planning time for grade level teachers and a
new character education program. In our Junior High and High School a new program, Life of a Rocket, has
begun to teach our students what expectations we have of a New Lisbon student, at school as well as away from
school. Also school district policies are now online at our district website.

New Lisbon Elementary Principal, Mark Toelle, second from left, accepts school supplies from The Bank of Mauston employees, l-r, Jay Ripp, Karen Bell, Mary Elsing and Amanda Emery. All items given to the New Lisbon schools were donated by community members at The Bank of Mauston New Lisbon branch during the annual Back-to-School Supply Drive.
Members of the New Lisbon Area Chamber of Commerce Board are pleased to present a symbolic “First Dollar of Profit” to the Hustle Stop. Sue and Steve Peasley reopened the convenience store in Hustler around Memorial Day. Sue said there was a real need for it in the community. They provide a great variety for the small community. They have their “signature subs,” deli, bakery, ice cream and many convenience items. Sue does all the baking including cringles. Steve and Sue are not new comers to the Hustler community as they have owned and operated Hooterbowl in Hustler for twelve years as well. Community support has been the key to their success. Pictured are Evie Hicks, Kristie Bunker and Lisa Hare from the Chamber, owners, Sue & Steve Peasley and manager Sarah Stark. Stop in, say hi and show your support for the Hustle Stop.
“Hayshakers” has recently reopened in Hustler. The New Lisbon Chamber of Commerce presented Frank Noble Jr. with the symbolic “First Dollar of Profit” after their grand opening weekend. The bar reopened the first weekend of August. Frank Noble Sr., Frank Noble Jr. and Bob Carnie have partnered together to get the business up and running. They open every day at 11am. Pictured are Evie Hicks, Frank Noble Jr., Kristie Bunker and Lisa Hare. Welcome to Hayshakers!

Lemonweir Valley Telcom Supports New Lisbon’s Volunteer Fire Department
Lemonweir Valley Telcom, provider of broadband, internet and voice communication services in New Lisbon and surrounding areas recently honored the New Lisbon volunteer Fire Department for it commitment to the community and the townships it serves. The board members of Lemonweir prepared and served a meal to the firefighters, their guests and several New Lisbon chamber and city officials. After the meal, Lemonweir’s general manager, Jim Costello and board president, Gary Robison presented the New Lisbon Fire Department with a monetary donation totaling $750.00. Costello commented,” The purpose of all of us gathering together is to take a moment to show appreciation to the
New Lisbon Fire Department for the many hours of volunteering they display all year long. Not to mention the many hours they spend to make the WaDuShuda Days in July a great event for everyone who attends. The residents and businesses of New Lisbon and the surrounding townships they serve are very fortunate to have this group of dedicated volunteers.” Fire chief, Lynn Willard and assistant fire chiefs Joe Willard and Shaun McCullough accepted the donation on behalf of the fire department. The New Lisbon Volunteer Fire Department is made up of 27 firefighters. The department serves the City of New Lisbon, Village of Hustler and the townships of Lisbon, Clearfield, Fountain and Germantown. The department’s equipment consists of two tankers, 2 brush trucks, one fire engine, one rescue unit and one rescue van, one aerial and one boat that is used in conjunction with Juneau County to perform water rescues. Chief Willard stated the department works with the Juneau County dive team when needed. On July 26, 2012 the department put into service a new fire engine. The new engine cost the department over $377,000.00. Chief Willard stated the department is very proud of the new engine. Chief Willard has been a volunteer firefighter since March 3, 1973 and has been fire chief since 1995. He added the department is looking for more volunteer firefighters to join them. If anyone would like more information about becoming a firefighter, contact the fire department at (608) 562-3222.
