Inside this issue:
This past month Cory Geerts, Dave
Hanson, and I had the opportunity
to represent LLDO at the NMA
Annual Conference in Reno,
Nevada. As expected, we had a great time, and left the conference inspired
to get back to work for our chapter. My favorite part of the conference, by
far, was the people. It is always a pleasure to meet our fellow NMA mem-
bers and have the opportunity to discuss and share stories of the challenges
we all face running our chapters. I am always so impressed by the quality of
outstanding people our association holds.
While attending the Annual Conference, we also had the honor of receiving
our chapter awards earned from the 2014-2015 LLDO calendar year.
Congratulations to Dave Heddens and all of you for helping LLDO receive
the 2014-2015 NMA “Outstanding Chapter” award. Please congratulate our
Public Relations Committee for earning the “1st Place Publications Award”
for the Bootstrap. This is definitely not an easy award to receive, and we
are very proud of the hard work put in by the members of this committee.
Last, but not least, we also received the “Community Service Award”, for
the hard work put in by our outstanding Community Service Committee. A
big “Thank You” to those who find the time in their busy schedule to con-
tinue to make our chapter one of the best!
November should be another fun month for LLDO. The Programs Commit-
tee will be hosting our monthly chapter meeting scheduled for Thursday,
November 19th. This event will feature WHO radio personality Van Hard-
en as our keynote speaker. Our Community Service committee is also start-
ing preparation for our upcoming annual Speech Contest. Help is definitely
welcomed and needed for this event. If you have any interest in joining the
Speech Contest subcommittee, please contact either David Heddens or my-
self.

MEMBER RELATIONS UPDATE
By Cory Geerts
We are currently at 81 regular members. We are always looking for volunteers to take attendance and/or Lennox Lotto. Taking attendance is a good way to learn coworkers names.
DIRECTOR’S CORNER
By David Hanson, NMA National Director
Volunteers Needed!
Time is neutral
and does not

and initiative,
leaders change
things.
- Jesse Jackson
The Annual Conference is over. As always, it was a privilege to attend. The learning opportunities, networking with other directors, speech contest and even the board meeting itself was rewarding. Getting involved was the key.
The keynote speaker was George Dare. Among other things he wrote the song "Stop, Drop & Roll", yes the ditty that we teach young kids for fire safety. He volunteered several of us to come up front and do the actions. If it wasn't for the fact we were all bad, I would have been embarrassed. But I got involved.
We had a session about Social Media. I learned more about Twitter and how to Tweet than I ever thought I would care to, but it was interesting to see the po-tential of Social Media. I learned that Hashtag is not a game about fried pota-toes and that even the presenters, who I considered experts, don't know it all but they were willing to "push the button" and see what happens. I got involved and posted on Twitter, but I am not a twit.
There were other sessions and lots of other activities including a spirited Board of Directors meeting. Space does not allow me to tell you about everything, but there is one thing I noticed. The people that enjoyed the conference were the people that got involved and engaged in the conference. That thought can be extended to every local chapter. People that enjoy their NMA chapter, wherever their chapter is, are the people who get involved and become part of the team. Join the NMA team. Talk, Tweet, "Stop, Drop & Roll" or whatever it takes. Get involved. #IamNMA
As always it is an honor and privilege to represent the NMA.

BIKE PATH
CLEAN UP
Article and Picture by: Dave Heddens-
Community Services Chair
18 Lennox LDO Members enjoyed a cool Autumn lunch hour while cleaning up the bike path from 12th Street to the Covered Bridge. They enjoyed a nice lunch from Sub City at Caboose Park.
The interns picked 3 winners for a $10.00 Canteen Punch Card: Tom Taylor for the most unsafe act –using a stick with a spike on the end of it to collect his gar-
bage. Roger Vreeland for wearing the least camouflage. It could have been the Iowa sweatshirt or the fact
he might have strayed from the group, got lost and was the last one to eat. Leroy Olson for being the most dedicated garbage collector by going down by the creek to collect
golf balls. Happy putting Leroy!
Thanks to everyone. See you in the Spring!

Jon Lucivansky is a field judge official in the NFL, and has worked in educational leadership for over 20 years. If anything, now we all know how much scrutiny is around each call that a referee makes during our beloved football games. However, Jon had some deeper lessons learned from his career that he shared with us. We learned how much sacrifice it takes to be successful, how networking helps advance your career, and how hard work, determination, and perseverance is something that everyone who wants to be successful needs. We can all agree that Jon was an excellent guest speaker.

As the weather is cooling down, lets learn about something to keep us “HOT”! What is the hottest pepper?
Most everyone has heard about the “Ghost Pepper” or the Bhut Jolokia, but shockingly this pepper is not the hottest pepper in the world. A pepper’s spiciness is measured on the Scoville Heat Unit or SHU. Developed in 1912 by Wilbur Scoville a pepper is dried, dissolved in alcohol which extracts the heat components (capsinoids), then diluted in a solution of sugar water. Then panels of 5 trained testers test the sample as the capsinoids are slowly added in. When the testers detect the heat it is rated. And you think your job stinks. Let’s be honest the only thing that matters is who can handle the most heat.
(I cannot!)
The top seven hottest peppers: 1. Carolina Reaper 2,200,000 SHU (Only 1 million away from Police Grade Pepper Spray) 2. Trinidad Moruga Scorpion 2,009,231 SHU 3. 7 Pot Douglah 1,853,936 SHU 4. 7 Pot Primo 1,469,000 SHU 5. Trinidad Scorpion 1,463,700 SHU 6. Naga Viper 1,349,000 SHU 7. Bhut Jolokia (Ghost Pepper) 1,041,427 SHU
For Reference: Red Savina Habanero 500,000 SHU
So if you want to ruin a perfectly good weekend, breathe fire, sweat profusely, or cry like a baby...you can buy many of these peppers for under $10 online! Source: https://www.crazyhotseeds.com/top-10-worlds-hottest-peppers/
