Doreen Ryan spent some quality time with her daughter Jill Frazer on Mother’s Day
Greetings from Neville...Hello and welcome to the winter edition of Kiri’s Arias.
We have had a lot to celebrate in the village. Apart from Anzac Day and Mother’s Day, we also celebrated the 10th anniversary of Triple A. We joined thousands of other Ryman villages across New Zealand and Australia in a simultaneous exercise class. What a great event!
We also had another special event; where 120 residents, their families, and staff, had the opportunity to take a trip on a steam train. Andy’s kitchen team also put together a spectacular picnic lunch which was enjoyed by all. Finally, the Stars Impersonators had our residents

in stitches with their outrageous performance.
Our village is growing and our care centre, serviced apartments and townhouses are full. Our independent apartments are also nearly all sold. Pip had a steady stream of enquiries and we are excited that these will soon be built.
Please keep an eye on your calendars for our upcoming events and feel free to contact me if you have any queries.

More than 3,000 Ryman Healthcare residents took part in a synchronised functional fitness class to celebrate Ryman’s Triple A (Ageless, Active, Aware) programme’s 10-year anniversary.
The villages were linked via YouTube and residents of villages in both New Zealand and Australia took part. In total, more than 3,000 residents of 31 Ryman Villages participated and 28 centenarians took part in the live streamed celebratory session.
Ngaio Marsh Retirement Village acted as the anchor for the YouTube live stream session. The village was also the first one to host a Triple A class back in 2007.
All Black legend, Jerome Kaino, joined the class at Bert Sutcliffe, four ballet stars from the Royal New Zealand Ballet took part at Bob Scott, and women’s rugby superstar Kendra Cocksedge was at the Ngaio Marsh event.
What a great achievement!

St Patrick's Day was a lot of fun at Edmund Hillary with green outfi ts, green food, and of course, Guinness!
Hello! My name is Jeremy Herradura.
I was born and raised in Manila, Philippines. I am the second eldest of fi ve brothers. I decided to study Physiotherapy and graduated in 2004.
However, I have skills in other areas and have worked as an area sales manager for a camera company, a foreman, a cook, and even as a barista.
However, I decided to return to the medical profession because I feel that is where I can contribute the most. As a physiotherapist, I worked for a community based rehabilitation programme. I am also certifi ed in First Aid and Basic Life Support with AED.
In my free time, I love playing sports, travelling, mountaineering and camping.
This is part of the reason why I moved to New Zealand in October 2016.
I started working at Kiri Te Kanawa as a healthcare assistant a few months ago and have not looked back. It has given me the opportunity to work with an amazing team and spend my time with people from all walks of life.
The best thing about Ryman is the equality and how everyone appreciates hard work. This is one of the reasons why I see myself being part of the Ryman team for years to come!
Hello, our names are Frances and John Bailey. My husband, John and I moved into our townhouse at Kiri Te Kanawa in 2016 and we love it.
John has been a woodworker for most of his life and he loves to use the men’s shed to continue his favourite hobby. He enjoys playing board games as it’s a great mental exercise and he joins the morning functional fi tness classes twice a week.
He also greatly enjoys gardening and has grown our vegetables over the years. Now he carries on his enterprise on a much smaller scale, but we do enjoy our celery, silverbeet and kale.
My hobbies on the other hand, involve sewing and wool craft such as felting, spinning, weaving and knitting. At the village, we have a group of night owls who meet twice a month for spinners who can’t make it during the day. The village market is also a good excuse to indulge my love of preserving and jam-making to help raise funds for charity. Triple A exercise classes are also a very enjoyable activity to join in.
I also volunteer with the Blind Foundation, as my mother, who is 95, is blind. We have been able to invite guest speakers from the foundation to the village which has been fantastic.
The most valuable aspect of our lives is our faith in God, especially the older we get.
Both John and I love the village, the staff, and enjoy the activities. We know that it is the best place to spend the rest of our days.
Mother’s Day afternoon tea
Our village celebrated Mother’s Day
in style. The serviced apartment
residents and their families came along
and danced to great music. Everyone
was also treated to a delicious mimosa
and had a fantastic time!
Back to the old daysDespite the terrible weather in May, our residents had a truly special day. Residents, their families and staff enjoyed a train trip to Muriwai, where we also stopped for lunch. The kitchen team went above and beyond with an amazing lunch for 120 people. Everyone shared their memories of past train trips and we are sure that this will be a great addition to those memories.

The Stars Show
Our residents were treated to a show full of fun and music. Impersonators of Dolly Parton and other stars delighted us with a fantastic comedic show. Afterwards, everyone was treated to their favourite drink at a special happy hour. We hope that everyone had a great time and we certainly would welcome this talented group again.
The Stars Impersonators in action
Outdated paper rosters became a thing of the past this year as myRyman Roster successfully rolled out across all our Ryman’s villages.
The roster application is the first stage of myRyman – our homegrown tablet based application – and it means that staff know exactly what shift they’re on, who their residents are, and what tasks lie ahead.
For managers, rostering has never been easier – they simply hit an icon to place a staff member onto a shift and it updates automatically – much easier than wrestling with complicated paper rosters.
myRyman Roster was the entrée and the team is moving to the main course – myRyman Care.
myRyman Care will make paper nursing notes extinct! The revolutionary Care application means that all nursing notes are available on a tablet, allowing staff to see at a glance what needs to be done for residents and to update information quickly. It’s information at your fingertips!
myRyman Care will also allow staff to spend more time with residents.
The Care application has been successfully piloted this year and will be rolled out over the next 15 months to all villages.

Menu
For our new Ryman delicious winter menu, we are turning back the clock to the 1950s, 60s and 70s for some culinary inspiration. The new menu will also include some gluten free and dairy free options. We hope that you will enjoy our new and improved recipes.
