During the Cities for a Healthier Sea project we have learned a lot and got
many insights. Here are some…
insights and lessons learned about the Baltic Sea
The Baltic Sea is a valuable resource
… but it can also create problems for coastal cities and municipalities
insights and lessons learned about the Baltic Sea
The Baltic Sea is beautiful and has many different faces

insights and lessons learned about cooperation
Cooperation is needed on all levels and with dfferent kinds of actors
We can learn from each others positive as well as negative examples.
insights and lessons learned about cooperation
insights and lessons learned about the role of the local levelThe protection of the Baltic Sea depends greatly on the local level.
Here the words are turned into actions.
Baltic Sea protection involves not only rules, restrictions, and penalties, but also branding, improvement of communication and awareness raising.
insights and lessons learned about the role of the local level
insights and lessons learned about the youth
Young people, may both change their everyday habits, as well as become more aware and responsible decision makers and managers on national and local level
"People need to be more aware of the situation. If we maintain our current
heading, the whole coast of the Baltic Sea could soon turn into a giant garbage
dump. We also need to be conscious of the fact that the rubbish on the beach is
not only our own. All of the trash, which is thrown into the sea from boats and
ships ends up on our shores.
So you might say “It is not our problem. Why should we clean up someone else’s
mess?“ Why? Because it is the right thing to do. What people tend to forget is
that we are the ones who have to live here. We cannot simply ignore the problem,
and hope that it will be resolved by itself."
