    Diana Award Ceremony 28th

    June: Barclays Corporate 2pm 4.30pm

In an increasingly self centered society 27,000 young people show they care. Over 70 of England and Wales most

inspirational young people will be honoured with the Diana Award by the Schools Minister, Nick Gibb MP at Barclays

Corporate on 28th June. These youngsters join the 27,000 award holders across England and Wales who would

    collectively fill Cardiff City Stadium.

These young roles models span the length and breadth of the country coming from Lancashire, to Wales to London.

Each young person has shown exceptional personal qualities, whether they are a carer, fundraiser, volunteer or anti-

bullying campaigner they have all challenged negative stereotypes of young people and made a positive contribution

    to their communities.

18 year old Sophie from John Ruskin College in Croydon is receiving her Diana Award for the support she gave her

best friend Chris who was suffering from cancer and has now sadly died. As Chris had no family, she nursed him in

her own home, turning her bedroom into a hospital ward. Sophie is an inspiration to all and she was entirely selfless

and dealt with the situation with great dignity, dedication and compassion.

13 year old Callum from Cambridge has shown amazing strength of character since his brother Liam died of cancer,

Liam was also a Diana Award holder. Callum has chosen to continue his brothers legacy by raising money for charity.

He has already raised over 10,000 since Liam died and hopes to raise another 20,000 from a cycle ride this

September. His brother raised over 300,000 and Callum is shining example of how to move forward and continue

    helping others.

8 -16 year olds from Llantwit Major RFC raised an astonishing 11,500 to fund one of their teammates, Toms bone

cancer treatment. They organised sponsored walks and a gala dinner with prizes donated from the Welsh rugby team

and Cardiff City FC. Tom is making a full recovery and was able to sit his GCSEs and is looking forward to the future.

Matthew Roberts from the under 16s Welsh rugby team said: We are really excited to receive this award but the best

reward is seeing Tom back to full health. We wanted to help Tom, he is one of us and we will never give up on our

    rugby family.

The award, in memory of Princess Diana, is presented to young people from all circumstances and sections of

society - who are determined to take action and make a difference to their communities and the lives of others. Many

of these young people disregard their own difficulties to help others.

Sue Killen Chief Executive of St John Ambulance will also be presenting awards. Sue will present Lee and Amy with

their awards. Both from South and West Yorkshire they have volunteered over 2,000 hours between them and have

    Notes to the editor:

The Diana Award was founded ten years ago by the Diana Memorial Committee to act as a lasting memorial to

Princess Dianas belief in the power of young people to change the world. The 30,000 Diana Award holders from

across the UK represent the values that the late Princess lived by.

The Diana Award has three award schemes; the Diana Award, our flagship programme for inspiring individuals, the

Diana Anti-Bullying Award for young people who have tackled bullying and the Diana Certificate of Excellence for

groups of young people who have made an exceptional contribution to their community.
