2. INSPIRE IR1 discovery service; Core requirements

OGC CSW ISO 19115/19119 Application Profile v2.0.2 is the interface service specification for the INSPIRE Discovery Service

Normative reference:

OGC 07-045, CSW ISO AP, OGC™ Catalogue Services

3. Motivation for the OGC CSW ISO AP 2.0.2

Review existing catalogue standards for the spatial domain

SDIC/LMO reference material (analysis) of DT MD and DT NS

Review existing catalogue standards

Existing catalogue standards considered: OGC Catalogue Service for the Web

(CSW) Z39.50 search and retrieval protocol EbXML Registry Service Universal Description, Discovery and

Integration (UDDI)

Reference material analysis on deployment of catalogue standards

• Clear perspective on use of DC and ISO 19115/19119 in metadata reference material of SDIC/LMOs (from DT MD)

• DT NS reference material of SDIC/LMOs show few references on use of catalogue service standards in Europe

• INSPIRE metadata survey by Novak & Cragia (2006)

4. Performance requirements

Performance; The time for sending initial response to service

request in normal situation shall be 3 seconds. This time

includes sending discovery service errors or exceptions. For the

Discovery Service, this time shall allow to send 250 Metadata

records. Normal situation represents periods out of peak load. It

is considered to be 90% of the time.

Availability; The probability of the Discovery Service to be up

shall by 99% of the time, no more than 15 minutes downtime

per day during working hours.

Capacity; The minimum number of simultaneous service requests

served according to the performance requirement shall be 100

for the Discovery Service.

5. Open issues (under discussion in DT NS)

1. Mapping INSPIRE search metadata elements to OGC CSW AP ISO 19115/19119

few INSPIRE metadata elements are not CSW AP

ISO core queryables

2. Mapping INSPIRE search metadata elements to Dublin Core

is under development by DT Metadata
