EYFS PHONICS MORNING

Parents and carers were invited in for a morning of phonics with their children. They were given vital information about how we teach phonics at Richard Atkins and then had the opportunity to do some fun and messy phonics activities with the children in class.

Thank you to all parents and carers that were able to attend

INTOUNIVERISTY – YEAR 6

Year 6 enjoyed a fantastic week at IntoUniversity. The Children were very enthusiastic and engaged with the topic of evolution, a visit to the Natural History Museum and were keen to research Charles Darwin theories. Their interaction with real life species during their workshop with the Zoolab

presenter was both informative and engaging Also children clearly enjoyed their tour of the university and the graduation ceremony. They did tremendously well to complete high-quality posters and university tree leaves.

Star students:

John: really impressed with his courage (especially since you mentioned he rarely speaks at school!), an excellent role model.

Desiree: consistently hard-working and impressive throughout the week.

David: engaged with every activity and was really enthusiastic.

BOXCLEVER THEATRE PLAY & WORKSHOP – YEAR 5/6

Topaz and Sunstone class took part in a theatre play and worksho where , they were very entertained and greatly educated about anti- bullying in a creative way. They were shown how to turn a negative into a positive by being kind, promoting equality, friendship and being helpful. They learnt how to treat each other with care, respect and to be mindful of each other. They were given different strategies to be inclusive and thoroughly enjoyed the workshop.

CULTURAL EVENING/DAY

In aide of Black History Month, for Cultural Evening/Day we invited all pupils and staff to come in dressed in their finest cultural wear or wearing colours from the flags of their home countries. We had some beautifully dressed

pupils!

The children in Nursery did some activities on the story Handa’s Surprise and made a display of a small village in

Kenya, with musical instruments made in class.

After school we then held our Cultural Evening Event and what a fabulous event it was! A big thank you to all those parents/carers who attended and/or dressed the children in what they consider to be traditional wear! It was wonderful to celebrate the pride that comes with a positive and powerful sense of identity. In addition, dishes traditionally from Madeira, Eritrea, Palestine, Jamaica and Somalia supplied and sampled by our school community, further enriched this wonderful experience. A huge thank you to Muna, Fosiya, Ilham, Rita, Wissam, Bouchra, Cyther, Katia, Paola & Musa.

Pupils, parents/carers and visitors thoroughly enjoyed the heritage presentation followed by interactive workshops. Special Acknowledgement to Lambeth Music Service who inspired us with an amazing performance by a youth orchestra! (the Mayors favourite!) Lastly a much appreciated thank you to our dedicated team of staff who contributed effortlessly towards the smooth running of the event.

Please do all come again next year!!
