Principal’s Notes
Mrs Miller is currently travelling through Europe with her husband and friends.
She has been having a fantastic time visiting lots of amazing places and eating at
lots of restaurants. So far she has been to Greece and Italy and she’s been doing
lots of walking.
We have had exciting news at Wandina this week, the Education Department is
providing us with a purpose built Kindy so we are now taking enrolments for a
3rd Kindy group. We are also getting a library and a staff room because all
classrooms will be in use next year.
Mrs Miller will be back at the beginning of term 4 and she wishes all the children
and their families a safe and happy holiday.

Newsletter 14 23nd September 2014
Congratulations to Mrs Butler and Ibu Sania on a very entertaining assembly.
The items allowed the school community to hear our amazing choir and also
see the children playing a variety of instrument including the Angklung, which is
a traditional Indonesian instrument. The children also taught us some
Indonesian words. The traditional Indonesian masks and art work on display
were beautiful.

School Faction shirts
Please remember that students are only required to
wear their Faction shirts on their sports day. Please
check with your child’s teacher if you are unsure as
most students should wear them on either a Monday
or Tuesday. Mr Power’s class is the only class that has
sport on a Thursday.
After school play
Just a reminder to parents that if you choose to stay
for a short time after school and allow your children
to play on the playground equipment, parents are
responsible for the supervision of their child as the
Department of Education will not accept any
responsibility for injuries that occur after school has
ended. Teacher supervision will occur in the primary
school until 3:10pm but they will not be supervising
the playgrounds. The cleaner will lock the side gates
at 3.10 so you will need to exit by the front gates if
you choose to stay longer. Thanking you.
Car Parking reminder
Just a reminder that you need to reverse park in the
car parks when picking up or dropping off students
because it is difficult to see young children moving
behind parked cars.
Thanking you for helping to keep our children safe!
Interschool Sports Carnival
Mrs Trump, Mrs Ridgeway and Mr Power were very
impressed with the behaviour of all children who
attended the Interschool Sports Carnival on Thursday.
Our athletes were very competitive and were placed in
a number of events. Congratulations to all those
children who represented Wandina Primary, we are
very proud of your achievements. Very special
congratulations to Grace Yokwe, who was Junior Girl
Champion.
We would ask that parents please talk to their children
about the importance of eating their sandwiches at
lunchtime. It was noted that some children were
throwing their lunches out so we are now checking
lunchboxes before dismissing them to play.
We would like to remind parents that you need to
complete a Confidential Declaration if you volunteer to
help in the classroom. Teachers have copies in their
classrooms for you to complete and they must be
completed and signed before you can help in the
classroom. Thank you.

Headlice
We have had several incidents of Head Lice this term
so we ask that all parents please check their
child/children/all family members’ hair over the
holidays, then daily for one week and commence
treatment if necessary. Please ensure that you
remove all eggs after treatment and continue
checking and recommence treatment if required. If
you have difficulty getting rid of Head Lice please
contact Community Health for advice.
Mrs Gratte has been completing her final teaching
practice this term in Room 1 with Miss Starling.
She has demonstrated that she is a very competent
teacher and we wish her all the best in her
teaching career.

The P & C are very excited that the canteen will be
open and operational from the first Friday of Term 4,
Friday the 17th of October and every Friday thereafter
We are still in the process of forming a volunteer
roster, so if you can offer any assistance please
contact Kellie Rodden on the following email address
[email protected]. Alternatively a
volunteer roster will be available in each class from
tomorrow for parents / grandparents/ caregivers to
sign up if they wish. The menu will be available on
the app and webpage from term 4. Orders can be
done, either in advance by putting them into the
class canteen drop box (correct change please) or
taken directly to the canteen on the Friday between
8.20 and 8.50am. The P&C would like to thank
everyone for their continued support, without it this
would not be possible for our children.
In the near future the P & C will be displaying some
boards in the hall to show where our fundraising
efforts are being used.
Term 4 will be busy for the P & C as we will be
arranging a Disco, and helping with the organising of
the Carols by Candlelight. Dates on both are yet to be
determined.
Notes From the P & C
Primary School Cricket Junior primary is generally years 4 and 5. The season will commence on the first Saturday back form the school holidays (18 October) and run for 9 weeks. The Geraldton Junior Regional Cricket Board would love to see a team represent your school or players form school join in with another school to make up a team if required, should the latter happen we would look at joining the names of the 2 schools together to form a team for this season only. I am personally keen to assist in any way and would be happy to come and talk with staff, any interested parents who might be able to assist in training/ coaching etc or to do a class talk to the potential cricket players. School Bus Services Parents interested in their children catching an orange bus in 2015 are required to complete Transport Assistance applications by 31 August 2014 by going to www.schoolbuses.wa.gov.au Please note conveyance assistance is also given to parents who drive their child to school.
Raising Children Network Children are as individual and as different as their parents and making decisions about what’s best for raising children is very personal. The Raising Children website offers up-to-date, research-based material on more than 800 topics spanning child development, behaviour, health, nutrition and fitness, play and learning, connecting and communicating, school and education, entertainment and technology, sleep and safety. It covers grown-ups, newborns (0-3 months), babies (3-12 months), toddlers (1-3 years), preschoolers (3-5 years), school-age children (5-9 years), pre-teens (9-11 years), and early teens (12-15 years). There are tips, videos and other useful resources. The Raising Children Network provides information that can help parents with the day-to-day decisions of raising children. It also provides information to help parents and carers look after their own needs. The information is based on the best science in parenting, child health and development, presented in language we can all understand. This is a website for Australian mothers, fathers, grandparents and anyone else who has responsibility for the
care of children. www.raisingchildren.com.au
