Configuration Requirements

1. SQL Server 2012 Express is included in the SOLIDWORKS Electrical installation package. This will support up to 6 concurrent users without a major performance compromise. If you are planning on having more than 6 concurrent users, you will want to look into purchasing a full copy of SQL.

2. In order for all client machines to communicate with the SQL Server and collaborative server, the following firewall ports must be opened bi-directionally at all times: 26666-26672, 1433, and client ports between 1024 and 5000.

3. Before installing SOLIDWORKS Electrical 3D on client machines, the same version and service pack of SOLIDWORKS must first be installed on these machines.

Software Download If you have software on DVD(s), you can skip this step. To download your software:

1. Visit https://customerportal.solidworks.com and login to your Customer Portal account.

• Note: If you don’t already have an account, create one and give us a call so that we can get your download started while you wait for account activation to complete.

2. Log in and go to Download > Downloads and Upgrades. 3. Click the download link for the latest version and service pack that matches your

machine’s architecture.

License Server Machine

The license server machine is the machine that client machines communicate with to “get” a license of SOLIDWORKS or SOLIDWORKS Electrical before the program can start. The SolidNetwork License Manager should, therefore, be installed on a computer that client computers can access through your network.

Note: It is possible for this machine to be the same as the SOLIDWORKS Electrical Server Machine (below), but this configuration is not described here. Installation

1. Launch the SOLIDWORKS Installation Manager setup.exe. • Look for setup.exe on your DVD or in your Downloads folder.

2. Select Server Products and check the box for Install SolidNetWork License Manager (distributed licensing) on this computer. Click Next.

3. Enter your 16- or 24-digit SOLIDWORKS serial number. • If you have a serial number for any of the other products listed on this screen,

check the box next to that product and enter the 24-digit serial number.

4. Click Next and proceed to the Summary page.

5. Check the box next to “I accept the terms of the SOLIDWORKS License Agreement” and click Download and Install or Install now if using the DVD.

6. Click Finish to complete the installation.

Activation

1. After the installation of the SolidNetwork License Manager is complete, launch it from Start > Programs > SolidWorks 20XX > SolidNetwork License Manager.

2. You will be prompted with a window saying “No SolidNetWork license(s) exist, would you like to activate now?” Click Yes.

3. Configure the SolidNetWork License Server Information window.

On the Server Information screen:

1. If your company uses a firewall, check the box for A firewall is in use on this server.

Questions? Call us or send us an email! (732) 669-0055 Option 3 [email protected]

Note: For more information about using SolidNetWork License Manager with firewalls, see the section Using SolidNetWork Licenses with Firewalls in the Install Guide. The Install Guide is included with your installation media (on the DVD or with the download)

2. Computer Name: will already be filled in. 3. Use the Port Number (and Vendor Daemon Port Number, if you have

a firewall) default values, or type the port numbers that your company uses.

Note: The port number is a TCP/IP port number in the 1024 - 60000 range, used exclusively by this process. The default, 25734, is normally suitable and is unlikely to be the same as any other FLEXlm server process currently on the license server.

4. Click Next to go to the Activate/Transfer License screen.

4. Click Select All to highlight your serial number and type your e-mail address into

the Contact Information (Required) field.

5. You now need to specify how you will activate the license. Activation can be done in one of two ways:

a. Automatically over the internet. (This is the recommended method since it is the easiest.)

b. Manual activation. If your machine does not have an internet connection, you will need to proceed to Manual Activation.

Automatic Activation 1. Select Automatically over the internet (recommended). 2. Enter your email address under the Contact Information (Required) section. 3. Click Next to connect to the activation server and process the activation. 4. Upon successful activation, the Activation/Reactivation Succeeded window

will appear listing the licensed products. 5. Click Finish.

Manual Activation

1. Select Manually via email. 2. Enter your email address under the Contact Information (Required) section. 3. Click Next and the Manual Activation window will display.

4. Click Save to save the activation request text file in a location you can easily find. 5. Copy this text file to a machine that is connected to the internet. 6. From the machine connected to the internet, email the text file as an attachment

to the email address: [email protected]. 7. An automatic email will be sent from SOLIDWORKS with the subject “Activation

Status.” This will contain a text file attachment. Copy the activation response text file to the machine requiring activation.

8. On the Manual Activation window, click Open and select the file obtained from the email.

9. Click Next to activate. 10. Upon successful activation, the Activation/Reactivation Succeeded window will

appear listing the licensed products. 11. Click Finish.

Installation 1. Launch the SOLIDWORKS Installation Manager setup.exe.

a. Look for setup.exe on your DVD or in your Downloads folder.

13. Specify the port number and server name for the SolidNetWork License Manager server in the Port@server box. It should look something like this: 25734@myserver.

• The default port is 25734. • What appears after the “@” symbol should be the name of the server that has

the SolidNetWork License Manager on it. Alternately, you can use the IP address of the server in place of its name. This often works better.

14. When the Installation is complete, click Finish.
