CPMINSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS

INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS

Corded CPMThe Corded CPM is another type of retrofit solution. The Corded CPM contains an M50 energy meter inside of a corded enclosure. The Corded CPM supports the full range of IEC, NEMA, specialized and regional connectors. Installing the Corded CPM is very easy. To begin monitoring a load, plug the Corded CPM into an outlet and then connect your load to the connector body/receptacle.

If the Corded CPM has Wi-Fi compatibility then it cannot be placed inside of a metal enclosure (such as a server rack). The Corded CPM will not function properly as the rack will block the signal.

The Corded CPM can be ordered without a connector or plug. If that is the case then the connector needs to be wired to the bottom end of the meter and the plug needs to be wired to the top end. The connector end should always be wired up first. Also, the ratings on the label of the enclosure should never be exceeded. Electrical equipment should be installed, operated, serviced, and maintained by trained and qualified electrical technicians. Equipment must be de-energized during service. Hazardous voltage will cause severe shock or burn. Universal Electric Corporation assumes no responsibility for the misuse or mishandling of electrical equipment.

Voltage Lead InstallationThe diagram below is the pinout of the voltage and ground leads. If the voltage and ground leads are not landed properly the meter will not function. L1, L2, and L3 are all fused. The fuses are not replaceable. Please be aware that the wire color changes on L3 from blue to black after the barrel splice. Make sure that L1 and L3 are landed properly.

NOTE: Wire colors may change depending on your country.

CPMINSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS

Sample Wiring DiagramBelow is a sample wiring diagram depicting how the CTs and voltage leads should be landed inside of a UEC plug-in unit. If the unit has a circuit breaker/fused disconnect the voltage leads from the Retrofit CPM should be landed above the circuit breaker. This allows the meter to be powered on even if the circuit breaker is in the “off” position.

Ground Bond TestA ground bond test is required to ensure safe operation. This test must be done once the Retrofit CPM has been added to a unit. A Ground Bond test will ensure that all exposed conductive parts are properly bonded together. The ground bond tester that UEC uses is the HYAMP III series. However, alternate ground bond testers can be used as long as the device is capable of supplying the following parameters:

1. Current: 30A AC

2. Resistance: 60milliohms

3. Dwell time: 1 second

WARNING: The ground bond tester produces voltages and currents that can cause harmful or fatal electric shock. Follow all local and national electrical installation and handling codes and guidelines. To prevent accidental injury or death, do not touch the test leads or the unit under test while current is flowing.
