This is part of the natural beauty. • Please check the colour and finish of your benchtop before you start cutting your new workspace. Benchtops cannot be returned or exchanged once they have been cut, modified or installed. • Both raw surfaces and any exposed edges or cutouts of the benchtop must be sanded and sealed prior to use. Application of coating should be applied according to the manufacturer’s instructions. • Water and substances should be cleaned from the benchtop as soon as possible. Any spillages may cause discolouration • Never place hot items directly onto your benchtop as this will cause damage to the surface. • Never cut directly onto your benchtop as this could create fine scratches. • Always remember to use Personal Protection Equipment when cutting and installing your benchtops. • These are natural products and it is normal for them to bow upward on the edges a little, if stored over a period of time. Simply turn the benchtop over and lay on its face until it is flat once more. • All surfaces must be sealed with at least 2 coats of your choice of sealer before use. Exterior wood glue (PVA) Fine tooth wood saw preparing for benchtop joins 1. On the underside of the benchtop, measure and mark a straight line 20mm in from the edge of the benchtop. This line indicates the edge position of the bore holes for the joiners. Measure and mark 100mm from the edge of each benchtop. Measure the space between the two marks and divide by 2 to give you the position of the middle benchtop joiner. Sealing the Benchtop: Before starting ensure all surfaces are sanded and sealed immediately after opening the packaging. Reseal any area cut with at least 2 coats of sealer paying special attention to the end grains in cutouts. Note: Before starting to install your benchtop it is necessary to decide on which side of your benchtop will be facing upwards. Each side will have different natural characteristics and features. Important: It is recommended that you use the assistance of a second person to secure the benchtop and help support the off cut during the cutting process. Always use PPE when employing power tools and en- sure all safety precautions have been taken. Set the depth of the circular saw blade to approximately 10mm deeper than the thick- ness of the benchtop. The blade must be at a right angle to the base plate. This will pro- vide a vertical cut. Cut the benchtop with the cir- cular saw making sure you keep the base of the saw against the straight edge. 2. 1. 3. Measure where you will be cutting and scribe the benchtop with a sharp knife. This will reduce chipping when cutting. Turn the benchtop over so the underside is facing upwards and again scribe using a sharp knife. Clamp a straight edge parallel to the marked line. To do this you will need to determine the correct position of the straight edge depending on the model and make of the chosen circular saw. cutting the benchtop Note: Work required to straighten/level walls should be completed before the kitchen has been installed. However, once benchtops are joined, the back edges can be planed or trimmed slightly to suit. Tiles/splashbacks and silicone will hide small gaps and inconsistencies between walls and benchtops. Cutting must be done with a new, or newly sharpened carbide-tipped blade, suitable for hardwood timbers Work out the distance from the edge of the base plate to the blade of the tool. This measurement needs to be the same as the distance that you place the straight edge (or guide) from the cut line. Tip. When clamping onto the benchtop ensure the clamps have soft jaws or suitable protection is placed on the surface of the benchtop to avoid damage. Note: It is recommended that the saw blade enters from the front edge of the benchtop (the side that will be most visible once installed). p. 1 Ver. 15
