Installing and Updating Cygwin for 32-bit versions of Windows• Open https://cygwin.com/setup-x86.exe in your browser any time you want to
update or install a Cygwin package for 32-bit windows
Installing and Updating Cygwin for 64-bit versions of Windows• Open https://cygwin.com/setup-x86_64.exe in your browser any time you want to
update or install a Cygwin package for 32-bit windows
The following Dialog Appears:
• Click Next>

Cygwin Installation
Select the option to Install from Internet
then click Next>
Select the Install Directory, then click
Next>

Cygwin Installation Files
Enter the name of the directory to store
the Cygwin installation files then click
Next>:
Select Direct Connection or enter the
settings appropriate to your location then
click Next>

Cygwin Compiler packages
Select the download site closest to you
geographically then click Next>
The following dialog box appears,
showing a list of categories with its
containing packages that can be
installed.
Expand the category Devel then read
through the next slide…

Select Packages
A simplified installation consists of the C, C++ Compiler and the GNU Make
package. If you select these three Packages as shown below, you’ll have what
you need to compile and link applications in Rhapsody:
Click on the - icon to select
the appropriate packages for
installation then press Next>

Cygwin Installation
Cygwin resolves missing dependencies
to required packages. Click Next> to
start the download and installation
process. This might take a while …
When the installation is complete the
following dialog box appears. Click
Finish>

Testing the Cygwin Installation
Open the Cygwin Terminal:
Type
• gcc <enter>
• g++ <enter>
You should get the “no input files” error message.
Type
• make <enter>
You should get the “No
targets specified…” error
message
