Obtaining the AutoTutor 3 Client[Skip this step if you already have the AT3SetupPackage.zip file.

1. Make sure that you have a cognitive lab account.2. Go to explorer window and get on to the network folder by typing \\

141.225.41.188 .3. Enter your username as COGNITIVE_LAB\username and then your

password4. Go to Groups\AutoTutorSoftwareArchieve\3.1\Client\

AT3SetupPackage.zip folder and download it.

Installing the AutoTutor 3 Client1. Right-click on AT3SetupPackage.zip file and choose “Extract All…”2. Click “Next” twice, wait for the extraction to complete, and then make

sure “Show Extracted Files” is checked. Then, click “Finish.3. Open the AT3SetupPackage folder.4. Double-click on “dotnetfx.exe” to install .NET framework 2.0 if your

system does not have it already installed.5. Double-click on “ATClient3 Setup.exe” to begin the setup process.

6. Click “Next” to continue.7. Read the license agreement, then click “I Agree” to continue.

8. Be sure that the type of install is “Full.” Click “Next” to continue.

9. Make a note of the destination folder (you will need that later). Click “Install” to begin the installation.

10. If a dialog box appears asking you to reboot at any time during this process, click “No.”

11. If the following dialog box appears, Click “Cancel,” then click “Yes,” then click “Finish.”

12. During the installation process, you may be asked to install shockwave player, do not install it.

13. You will see this window when the installation is completed. Click “Finish.”

14. Double-click “Agent Chat Plugin Setup.exe” in the AT3SetupPackage folder. Click Next

15. Click “I Agree.” (The license agreement for this plugin is the same as for the AutoTutor 3 Client.)

16. Make sure the install type is “Full.” Then click “Next.”

17. Click “Install.” Do not attempt to change the installation directory. The installer automatically detects where AutoTutor was installed and sets the installation directory accordingly.

18. You will see this dialog box during installation:

19. Make sure “Regular Install” is selected and click “Next.”

20. Click “Finish.”

21. Click “Finish.”

22. Double click on Web Image Plugin.exe in the AT3SetupPackage folder and install it.

23. Double click on State Table Plugin.exe in the AT3SetupPackage folder and install it.

24. Reboot your computer to complete the installation.

Updates Go to AT3SetupPackage\Updates and copy WebImagePlugin.dll and

paste it in C:\Program Files\AutoTutor 3 Client\plugins\WebImage\ folder.

Go to AT3SetupPackage\Updates folder and copy PhysicsWebImage folder to C:\Program Files\AutoTutor 3 Client\plugins\ folder.

Selecting female agent’s voiceSometimes the female agent’s voice is mismatched with a male voice so please follow the steps below to select a female voice.

1. Go to C:\Program Files\Haptek\player\data\HapTTS\ and double click on HapSAPISetup.exe. Now find a voice number for a good female voice.

2. Go to C:\Program Files\AutoTutor 3 Client\plugins\ and double click on niuagentchat.ini configuration file and,

Change the value of tutorEngine to that of voice number that you have chosen. i.e. tutorEngine = voice number

To run a tutoring session

1. Go to Start->All programs->AutoTutor 3->AutoTutor 3 Client 2. You will see this window.

3. The window will be maximized. Click the Restore Down button on the frame so that the window is resized to the correct size.

4. Open the File menu. Click on Configuration, then “Load Configuration File…”

5. Go to AT3SetupPackage folder and select “Physics-demo.xml” for a Physics tutoring session. Select “ComputerLiteracy-demo.xml” for Computer Literacy and “CriticalThinking-demo.xml” for Critical Thinking.

6. The program will appear to freeze momentarily as agents appear on the screen. This is normal. After a moment, you will see this dialogue box.

7. Type “test” (without the quotes). Click “OK” when you are done.

8. As soon as the agent finishes speaking, you may interact with the tutor. Type your response into the textbox labeled “Enter your response here:”, then hit Enter or click Submit to send it to the tutor.

9. Sometimes the program does not shut down gracefully. So you may have to manually terminate the AutoTutor process. Use the Task Manager to accomplish this. The process name is ATClient3.exe.

How to change the subtopic1. In the Menu, go to Session->Jump to->Subtopic as shown below

2. Now you will see this dialogue box.

3. Following are the list of subtopics for Physics and Computer Literacy AutoTutor. Enter the subtopic number that corresponds to the problem you choose.
