RAMCO INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY
It was 1938, when reverberations of the Industrial Revolution had not yet reached the interiors of
South India and Shri P.A.C. Ramaswamy Raja the founder of RAMCO Group and one of the foremost
visionary industrialists and philanthropists, setup the first Spinning Mill at Rajapalayam which later
became the focal point of the Ramco Group. His sharp focus on technology and quality has inspired a
generation of entrepreneurs and formed the basis for the collective vision of the Group. He made a lasting
contribution to the development of society by setting up industries and educational institutions. He
founded P.A.C. Ramasamy Raja Education Charity Trust in 1950 and Raja Charity Trust in 1951. A
number of educational institutions function under the aegis of these Trusts. More than 10,000 students are
being benefitted by the Trust.
Under the stewardship of our Founder Chairman Shri P.R. Ramasubrahmaneya Rajha, son of Shri
P.A.C. Ramaswamy Raja, the Ramco Group has expanded into a USD 1 Billion industrial conglomerate
with interests in manufacturing cotton and synthetic textiles, cement, building products, software
solutions, wind-energy, education and more. It continues to grow under the visionary leadership of our
present Chairman Shri. P.R. Venketrama Raja. The Group has become one of the most reputed business
houses in India and has achieved international recognition for its quality products and services.
Ramco Institute of Technology, (RIT) promoted by Raja Charity Trust, was established during the
academic year 2013-14. It is fully supported by the Ramco Group to create quality Engineers for future
needs. The Institution is approved by AICTE and is affiliated to Anna University, Chennai. Currently, RIT
offers 4-year undergraduate Engineering programmes, and plans to offer postgraduate and research
programmes in Engineering and science. The overall management of the Institution is vested with the
Governing Council under the able leadership of Shri. P.R. Venketrama Raja, Chairman, RAMCO Group
of Industries.
The Advisory Committee of the Institute is headed by Prof. M.S. Ananth, former Director of IIT
Madras and is ably supported by leading Professors of IIT Madras, Prof.M.S.Palanichamy, former Vice-
Chancellor of Open Tamilnadu University and other prominent academicians. The Advisory Committee
plays a vital role in recruiting the best faculty, training them, promoting innovative teaching and
encouraging research.
