Institute for Competitiveness, India is the Indian knot in the global network of the Institute for Strategy and Competitiveness at Harvard Business School. Institute for Competitiveness, India is an international initiative centered in India, dedicated to enlarging and purposeful disseminating of the body of research and knowledge on competition and strategy, as pioneered over the last 25 years by Professor Michael Porter of the Institute for Strategy and Competitiveness at Harvard Business School.

2006

• Marked our beginning with an opinion piece - The first article under the name of Institute for Competitiveness was published by Dr. Amit Kapoor in Economic Times.

2009

• Incorporation - Institute for Competitiveness was incorporated in 2009 and is part of global network of the Institute for Strategy & Competitiveness at Harvard Business School, USA

• State Competitiveness Report -The report, which is an annual publication maps the competitiveness & performance of states in India.

2012

• Porter Prize - An annual (first hosted in 2012) event of Institute for Competitiveness which recognizes the strategic acumen of corporates in India.

• States Competitiveness Awards - Launch of awards in associated with MINT to celebrate the states, cities and enterprises that have helped in enhancing the competitiveness across the nation.

• Hall of Fame- Prof. Kapoor was inducted into the Competitiveness Hall of Fame which is administered by Institute for Strategy and Competitiveness at Harvard Business School, USA.

2014

• India Council on Competitiveness was formed A partnership was developed with Council on Competitiveness to promote sustainable economic growth and develop global competitiveness policies and strategies.

2016

• Joined hands with Social Progress Imperative - to form Social Progress India to complement the economic assessment with social assessment by adopting the Social Progress Index framework.

• Future of States – The aim of the initiative is to help governments, corporations, the media & the broader civil society to come to terms with the changes that will benefit India in terms of leveraging its innovation capability.

• NITI Transformation Lecture – Institute joined hands with NITI Aayog to organize the third lecture in the high-powered NITI Lectures : ‘Transforming India’

2017

• Shared Value Initiative IndiaInstitute collaborated with the Shared Value Initiative, USA to introduce the shared value paradigm among the organizations in India. The objective is to bring forward institutions and corporates that are moving towards a new age of capitalism.

• Launched Thinkers MagazineThinkers is a quarterly thought leadership magazine with articles, interviews, and thought pieces from the foremost thinkers. 2015

• Thinkers50 – Thinkers50, India is a joint initiative of Thinkers50, London.

• It is a platform to discuss new ideas, new thoughts, address challenging issues, forge new paths, identify synergies in the management arena.

• Global Competitiveness Conference - The conference was organized by TCI and IFC at MDI, Gurgaon.

The annual Shared Value Summit aims at encouraging businesses to adopt the practice of shared value by imbibing the spirit of inclusivity in their business models.

This book looks at successful and sometimes not so successful strategies, operations, and innovations within India. State Innovation Report

State Innovation Report is a flagship report of the initiative which will help the states in envisioning their future. The research is done on the basis of economic and social indicators at a national and subnational level to take stock of the present state of Indian Innovation. The calculated Index is a tool for the policymakers to track the innovation activity in the states.

HOSTING PROFESSOR MICHAEL E. PORTER

The Institute for Competitiveness hosted Professor Michael E. Porter during his visit to India in 2017 after a gap of 14 years. Leveraging on his visit, the institute joined hands with NITI Aayog to organize the third lecture in the high-powered ‘NITI Lectures: Transforming India’ series by Professor Porter on the theme – Competitiveness of Nations and States: New Insights. The lecture was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and attended by top policy makers including all members of the Cabinet. Professor Porter spoke on India’s improvement incompetitiveness over the years and the role of social progress and shared value in the developmental process. Professor Porter also delivered keynotes at the Porter Prize and Shared Value Summit held in Mumbai and Delhi respectively.
