The interdisciplinary studies specialization requires students to work with their advisors to design a specialization consisting of twelve (12) credit hours to suit the students’ specific interest from coursework available in the area. Students are required to submit a list of proposed specialization courses along with an explanation of the appropriateness of the designed specialization in terms of career and personal development. Selected coursework should be interdisciplinary in nature or come from different fields that integrate to represent a cohesive theme.

7. Explanation of the Change:

The curriculum changes in the Long-Term Care Administration specialization in the M.S. in Administration program are caused by the modifications in the Long-Term Care Management graduate certificate and resulted in the removal of three courses (HRM 569, HSAD 511, and HSAD 515) and addition of two courses (HSAD 559 and HSAD 594). Since public personnel management is an important aspect of administering a long-term care facility, the M.S. in Administration program requires students to complete either HRM 560 (offered by the School of Business) or EMPA/POLS 723 (offered by the College of Arts & Sciences) courses as part of the Long-Term Care Administration specialization course work. Students will have an option to choose which course content will be more beneficial for them. Additionally, while

HSAD 594 Internship may be helpful to students who plan to obtain a certification/licensure in the Long-Term Care Management, the Internship course is optional for students in the MS in Administration program since, per the program admission requirements, the students are already working professionals and thus may work or have worked in a long-term care setting. Therefore, if students find HSAD 594 Internship to be not beneficial, students may choose an elective that would contribute to their educational and professional goals.

Accelerated Master’s Program: BS/MS Up to 12 credits applied toward the B.S. program may be used to satisfy graduate credit. The following restrictions apply: a. Dual-listed courses taken at the 500-level can be applied to both the B.S. and M.S. degrees. Dual-listed courses must be taken at the 500-level. b. The student must apply to, and be admitted to, the accelerated program prior to taking courses to be credited toward the accelerated program. c. No courses taken prior to admission to the accelerated program may be counted toward an accelerated graduate degree. d. Courses that are "double counted" must be approved by the program coordinator for inclusion in the program of study prior to registration for the course or the credits will not be applied toward the accelerated graduate degree. e. Only courses taken at the student’s home institution are eligible for accelerated program credit. No transferred courses from other institutions will be allowed to count toward the accelerated master’s degree. f. Students admitted to the accelerated M.S. Program may be allowed to register for all courses included in his/her program of study and these credit hours may apply to both undergraduate and graduate degree requirements.

7. Explanation of the Change:

The addition of an accelerated option will allow advanced students who have been admitted to the Master’s program to begin the M.S. in Chemistry during their final year of undergraduate study. Undergraduate students who qualify for and are admitted to the accelerated program may register for graduate level classes (500, 600, and 700) and these credit hours may apply to both undergraduate and graduate degree requirements.

7. Explanation of the Change:

1) The English department would like to remove the linguistics requirement (ENGL 507 / LING 507) due to staffing and scheduling issues. The faculty lines with expertise to teach these courses were not renewed when faculty retired or resigned. These courses need to run on a regular basis in order for students to meet the requirement, and without qualified faculty members, the department cannot offer them. Removing the linguistics requirement allows students to take an additional elective in their areas of interest. Because the majority of students’ coursework is required coursework, this additional elective will enable them to further develop skills in their areas of specialization and/or take courses necessary for strategic professionalization. 2) The change that appears in the coursework for the Literary Studies: Critical specialization and in the Literary Studies: Creative specialization is a change in language (“courses” replaces “seminars”) that enables 500-level coursework to count toward required credits for the specialization. This change enables students to select from a wider range of course offerings (both 500 and 700-level courses) and gives students more opportunities for taking courses in their areas of interest and/or necessary for strategic professionalization. For example, a student specializing in Literary Studies: Creative could take ENGL 593: Astrophil Press Publishing (a beneficial course for creative writers planning to pursue careers in publishing and writing) and count it toward the required credits in her/his specialization. Additionally, students specializing in Literary Studies: Critical would be able to take courses in their geographical and historical periods that are offered at the 500 or 700 level.

a change in the American Psychological Association Standards of Accreditation for Clinical Psychology. In addition, we wish to align the requirements of the Clinical Psychology and Human Factors master’s programs to include a core of psychology courses that will be expected of all of those who earn a master’s degree in psychology.

7. Explanation of the Change:

Deleting the series of five 1cr seminars and replacing them with a new course (PSYC 703: Modern Psychology) and additional credits of PSYC 737 will align the two specializations within the program and better match the demands both the APA and HFES degree requirements.

7. Explanation of the Change: The psychology core requirements have changed due, in part, to a change in the American Psychological Association Standards of Accreditation for Clinical Psychology. In addition, we wish to align the requirements of the Clinical Psychology and Human Factor’s master’s programs to include a core of psychology courses that will be expected of all of those who earn a master’s degree in psychology.

Changes in the Clinical Psychology PhD Core reflect the following (in order of their appearance):

• moving PSYC 705 to the Psychology MA core • PSYC 765 and 768 and have appeared incorrectly in the catalog -- this is a correction • PSYC 782 has been replaced by PSYC 773: Research Methods in Clinical Psychology • PSYC 709 has been added as a requirement • Doctoral level electives have been increased from 6 credit hours to 9 credit hours • The number of hours for the specialization have gone from 44 to 41 -- but the total number

of hours required for the PhD degree remains the same (71)

Total number of hours required for degree 84 Total number of hours required for degree 84

7. Explanation of the Change:

Deleting the series of five 1cr seminars and replacing them with a new course (PSYC 703: Modern Psychology) and moving a required advanced statistics course into the common psychology core will align the two specializations within the program and better match the demands both the APA and HFES degree requirements. The remaining changes are minor adjustments to reduce 1 credit of the repeatable PSYC 737 and increase free electives to 12cr while maintaining the same total credit hour requirements. The change to PSYC 776 & 791 reflect the variable credit nature of the courses.

7. Explanation of the Change:

Students will be required to enroll in 1 credit of DCOM 595 Clinical Practicum for a 4th semester during their program for a diagnostic rotation. Currently students are enrolled in DCOM 595 Clinical Practicum for only 3 of their 4 semesters of on-campus clinical experience. The 1 additional credit of DCOM 595 will result in students being registered for Clinical Practicum for each of their semesters on campus. A diagnostic rotation is needed to reflect accreditation requirements for knowledge and skill expectations in diagnostic assessment of speech, language and communication disorders for program graduates.
