11. PERSONAL PRECAUTIONS a)Considerhavingsomeonecloseenoughbytocometoyouraidwhenyou
worknearalead-acidbattery. b)Haveplentyoffreshwaterandsoapnearbyincasebatteryacidcontacts
skin,clothing,oreyes. c) Wear complete eye protection and clothing protection. Avoid touching
eyeswhileworkingnearbattery. d)Ifbatteryacidcontactsskinorclothing,washimmediatelywithsoapand
water.Ifacidenterseye,immediatelyfloodeyewithrunningcoldwaterforatleast10minutesandgetmedicalattentionimmediately.
e)NEVERsmokeorallowasparkorflameinvicinityofbatteryorengine. f)Beextracautioustoreduceriskofdroppingametaltoolontobattery.It
mightsparkorshort-circuitbatteryorotherelectricalpart thatmaycauseexplosion.
g)Removepersonalmetal itemssuchas rings,bracelets,necklaces,andwatches when working with a lead-acid battery. A lead-acid battery canproduceashort-circuitcurrenthighenoughtoweldaringortheliketometal,causingasevereburn.
h)UsechargerforchargingaLEAD-ACIDbatteryonly.Itisnotintendedtosupplypowertoalowvoltageelectricalsystemotherthaninastarter-motorapplication.Donotusebatterychargerforchargingdry-cellbatteriesthatarecommonlyusedwithhomeappliances.Thesebatteriesmayburstandcauseinjurytopersonsanddamagetoproperty.

12. PREPARING TO CHARGE a) If necessary to remove battery from vehicle to charge, always remove
groundedterminalfrombatteryfirst.Makesureallaccessoriesinthevehicleareoff,soasnottocauseanarc.
b) Be sure area around battery is well ventilated while battery is beingcharged.
c) Clean battery terminals. Be careful to keep corrosion from coming incontactwitheyes.
d)Adddistilledwaterineachcelluntilbatteryacidreacheslevelspecifiedbybatterymanufacturer. Donotoverfill. Forabatterywithoutremovablecell caps, such as valve regulated lead acid batteries, carefully followmanufacturer’srecharginginstructions.
e)Studyallbatterymanufacturer’sspecificprecautionswhilechargingandrecommendedratesofcharge.
f)Determinevoltageofbatterybyreferringtocarowner’smanualandmakesureitmatchesoutputratingofbatterycharger.
13. CHARGER LOCATION a)Locatechargerasfarawayfrombatteryasdccablespermit. b) Never place charger directly above battery being charged; gases from
batterywillcorrodeanddamagecharger. c) Never allow battery acid to drip on charger when reading electrolyte
specificgravityorfillingbattery. d)Donotoperatecharger inaclosed-inareaor restrictventilation inany
way. e)Donotsetabatteryontopofcharger.14. DC CONNECTION PRECAUTIONS a) Connect and disconnect dc output clips only after setting any charger
switchesto″off″ positionandremovingaccordfromelectricoutlet.Neverallowclipstotoucheachother.
b)Attachclipstobatteryandchassisasindicatedin15(e),15(f),and16(b)through16(d).

CHARGING STAGES• Constant Power(sometimescalledbulk)isthemainchargingstage.Theunit
outputs its fullpower. Batteryvoltagerisesuntil thebattery reaches the tripvoltage(seetable).
• Float(sometimescalledmaintenance)istheunit’slongtermstage.Theunitisdesignedtobeleftconnectedindefinitely.Itwillkeepyourbatteryfullycharged,ensuringnosulfatecanform.Theunitmaintainsthefloatvoltage(seetable)usingverylittlepowerasitactivelymonitorsyourbatteryandadjustsitsoutputseveraltimesasecond.
ADDITIONAL FEATURES• Desulfation is the removal of sulfate build-up from your battery’s plates. It
occursatalltimestheunitisconnected.• Short Circuit, Spark and Reverse Polarity Protectionpreventtheunitfrom
havinganyoutputunlessitisproperlyconnectedtoyourbattery.• Temperature Protection shuts down the unit if operating temperature is
exceeded.

Unit does not have an output unless connected to a battery. In order totesttheoutputusingameter,connectthemetertoyourbattery.Whenyouconnecttheunit,youwillseethevoltagerise.If the unit is not in float after 72 hours (per battery if charging multiple),check to make sure your battery meets the minimum voltage (see table)requirements.
Unitwillnotoperateifbatteryisbelowtheminimumvoltage. Ifthereisaloadonyourbattery,disconnectitandchargeagain. Iftheproblempersists,yourbatterymaybeshortedorbadlysulfated,usethe
“PressforMaintenance”buttontooverridethechargestageandgodirectlyintofloat.Badly sulfated batteries may need 2-4 weeks of float charging to showresults.

(gel,floodedorAGM)andcondition.ItisOKtomixdeepcycleandstarter.Charge
eachbatteryindividuallybeforeconnectingtogether.Neverconnectbatteriesat
differentstatesofcharge.Thechargedbatterywillrapidlytransferenergytothe
dischargedbatterypossiblycausingcatastrophicfailure.
Once the batteries are charged, use 18 gauge or greater wire to connect the
batteries.
