Springtime is for the birds!● Have you noticed more birds outside

lately? Many birds are returning to from their winter vacations in warm climates.

● They are now busy gathering materials to build nests and lay eggs.

● There are lots of different kinds of birds in North America and several species call Chicago home - at least part of the year!

● Robins and sparrows are birds that come and go. Cardinals live in Illinois and the Midwest year-round.

PROJECT 1:If you have a pencil and paper, try this step by step drawing of a Robin. You can also add color. Be sure to color the robin’s chest orange!

PROJECT 2: Try to draw a Charley Harper style cardinal. Follow the steps. Add a background if you’d like!

PROJECT 3:

If you have crayons, scissors and glue, try making a bird crayon collage!Steps are shown on the next slide...

2. Color 2 patches of color with crayon. One should be big and one small.

3. To draw the bird, use simple shapes. Use a dark colored crayon to draw semi-circles- one for the body, one for the wings.

1. Use lots of colors to scribble a nest.

A tiny baby bird!

4. Cut out your shapes and add details. Glue in place.
