INSTRUMENT PANEL_FEATURES MERCURY MARINER_QUICK REFERENCE GUIDE GAUGES_WARNING LIGHTS 01. TURN SIGNAL, HEADLAMP AND AUTOLAMP CONTROL Turning the headlamp control up to the first position turns on the parking lamps. Continuing to turn the headlamp control to the second position, turns on the head- lamps. To activate the high beams, push the lever forward to the instrument panel. Pull the lever towards you to deactivate them. Use the same lever to activate the “Flash to Pass” feature. Pull the lever towards you to the first detent to activate, and release quickly to flash. The battery saver will shut off the exterior lamps 10 minutes after the ignition has been turned off, if the headlamp control is in the position. To use the autolamp light sensitive, automatic on-off control (if equipped) for the headlamps, turn the headlamp control down to the AUTO position. To turn autolamps off, turn the control back to the OFF position. For more information, please consult your Owner’s Guide. 02. POWER SIDE VIEW MIRRORS Rotate the control clockwise to adjust the right mirror, and counterclockwise to adjust the left mirror. Then move the control in the direction you wish to tilt the mirror. Return the control to the center position to lock the mirrors in place. 03. FOG LAMP CONTROL The fog lamps can be turned on when the headlamp control is in the parking lamp or headlamp position and the high beams are not on. Press the control to turn on the fog lamps. The fog lamp indicator light will illuminate. Press again to deactivate. Remember, the fog lamps will not operate when the high beams are on. The fog lamps are deactivated when the ignition is turned to the LOCK position. 04. PANEL DIMMER CONTROL Use the dimmer control to adjust the brightness of the instrument panel and all applicable switches in the vehicle when headlamps and parking lamps are on. Push and hold the top of the control to brighten. Push and hold the bottom of the control to dim. 05. TILT STEERING WHEEL LEVER To adjust the steering wheel, push the adjustment lever down to unlock the steering column. While the lever is in the down position, tilt the steering column to your desired position. Then, while holding the steering column in place, pull the lever up to its original position to lock the steering column. 06. MESSAGE CENTER (If equipped) The message center, located on your instrument cluster, displays important vehicle information through constant monitoring of vehicle systems. You may select display features on the message center for a display of status preceded by a brief indicator chime. The system will also notify you of potential vehicle problems with a display of system warnings followed by a long indicator chime. 07. COMPASS (If equipped) The compass heading (N, NE, E, SE, S, SW, W or NW) is displayed in the message center display. The compass reading may be affected when you drive by large buildings, power lines and powerful broadcast antennas. For more information, please consult your Owner’s Guide. 08. FRONT AND REAR WIPER WASHER CONTROL The multi- function lever controls the windshield wiper modes, speeds, and the windshield washer. For intermittent operation, move the lever down one position. You can then adjust the rotary control to the desired speed. For normal or low speed wiper operation, move the lever down two positions from OFF. For high speed operation, move the lever down three positions from OFF. For windshield washer fluid, pull the end of the stalk towards you. Move the lever up and release for one wipe. REAR: Rotate the end of the lever upward to the position for intermittent operation. Rotate the end of the lever upward to ON for normal-speed operation. Rotate and release the end of the lever to the position to activate the rear washer. 09. AUDIOPHILE SATELLITE COMPATIBLE IN-DASH SIX-CD RADIO (If equipped) Please see reverse side for details. 10. SPEED CONTROL For your speed control to work, it must be in the ON position. Pressing and releasing the ON button will engage it. Pressing and releas- ing the OFF button disengages it. Speed control does not work at speeds below 30 mph (48 km/h). To set a desired speed, press SET ACC. You can increase speed using the speed control by pressing and holding SET ACC. You can decrease speed by pressing and holding using the CST button. Pressing the RSM control will automatically return the vehicle to the previously set speed. To disengage the speed control, press the OFF button or press the brake pedal. 11. HAZARD FLASHER CONTROL Push the flasher control and all front and rear direction signals will flash. Use it when your vehicle is disabled or is creating a safety hazard for other motorists. The hazard flashers will operate when the ignition is in any position or if the key is not in the ignition. 12. REAR WINDOW DEFROSTER CONTROL / HEATED OUTSIDE MIRRORS Ensure that the ignition is in the RUN position. Press the control to clear the rear window of thin ice and fog. The LED will illuminate. The rear defroster turns off automatically after 15 minutes or when the ignition is turned to LOCK. To manually turn off the rear defroster before 15 minutes have passed, push the control again. When the rear window defroster is activated, ice, mist and fog will be removed from both outside heated mirrors (if equipped). Like the rear window defroster, the mirrors have an auto time- out feature that will turn the system off after 15 minutes. 13. REVERSE SENSING SYSTEM (If equipped) This system sounds a tone to warn the driver of obstacles near the rear bumper, when R (Reverse) is selected and the vehicle is moving at speeds less than 3 mph (5km/h). The closer you get to the obstacle, the more the rate of the tone increases. When an obstacle is less than 10 inches away, the tone sounds continuously. The system is not effective at speeds above 3 mph (5 km/h) and may not detect certain angular or moving objects. 14. CLIMATE CONTROL Please see reverse side for details. 01. ABS WARNING LAMP The ABS warning lamp will momentarily illuminate when the ignition is turned on. If the light doesn’t illuminate, stays on or flashes, have your vehicle serviced. In an emergency, apply continuous force to the brake pedal. Do not pump the brakes. Any pulsation or mechanical noise you may feel or hear is normal. 02. FOUR WHEEL DRIVE (4WD) SYSTEM (If equipped) Four Wheel Drive is capable of handling various road conditions, including street and highway driving as well as off-road and winter driving. The 4WD indicator light illuminates when the ignition is first turned to the RUN position, to check the bulb. Solid illumination indicates the 4WD system is locked. A blinking indicator indicates the system has been disabled or requires service. 03. TPMS WARNING SYSTEM Using radio- frequency pressure sensors, this system monitors tire pressure on all road tires and provides the driver with a yellow warning light when air needs to be added. Message center equipped vehicles provide additional warning messages. The TPMS warning light will reset itself (turn off ) after the tires are reset to specification and the vehicle is driven above 20 mph (30 km/h) for two minutes. Please note: Outside temperature affects tire pressure. 04. SERVICE ENGINE SOON LAMP The Service Engine Soon lamp illuminates when the ignition is first turned to the RUN position, to check the bulb. If the light turns solid or blinks, the On-Board Diagnostics System has detected a malfunction. Drive in a moderate fashion (avoid heavy acceleration or deceleration) and have your vehicle serviced immediately. GAUGES_WARNING LIGHTS

01. TURN SIGNAL,HEADLAMP ANDAUTOLAMP CONTROLTurning the headlampcontrol up to the firstposition turns onthe parking lamps.Continuing to turnthe headlamp controlto the second position,turns on the head-lamps. The fog lampindicator light willilluminate. Pressagain to deactivate.Remember, the foglamps will notoperate when thehigh beams are on.The fog lamps aredeactivated whenthe ignition is turnedto the LOCK position.

04. PANEL DIMMERCONTROL Use thedimmer control toadjust the brightnessof the instrumentpanel and allapplicable switchesin the vehicle whenheadlamps andparking lamps areon. Push and holdthe top of thecontrol to brighten.Push and hold thebottom of thecontrol to dim.

05. TILT STEERINGWHEEL LEVER Toadjust the steeringwheel, push theadjustment leverdown to unlock thesteering column.While the lever is inthe down position,tilt the steeringcolumn to yourdesired position.Then, while holdingthe steering columnin place, pull the leverup to its originalposition to lock thesteering column.

10. SPEED CONTROLFor your speedcontrol to work, itmust be in the ONposition. Pressingand releasing the ONbutton will engage it.Pressing and releas-ing the OFF buttondisengages it. Speedcontrol does notwork at speedsbelow 30 mph (48km/h). To set adesired speed, pressSET ACC. You canincrease speed usingthe speed control bypressing and holdingSET ACC. You candecrease speed bypressing and holdingusing the CSTbutton. Pressing the

11. HAZARD FLASHERCONTROL Push theflasher control and allfront and rear directionsignals will flash. Useit when your vehicleis disabled or iscreating a safetyhazard for othermotorists. The hazardflashers will operatewhen the ignition isin any position or ifthe key is not inthe ignition.

12. REAR WINDOWDEFROSTERCONTROL / HEATEDOUTSIDE MIRRORSEnsure that theignition is in the RUNposition. Press thecontrol to clear therear window of thinice and fog. The LEDwill illuminate. Therear defroster turnsoff automaticallyafter 15 minutes orwhen the ignition isturned to LOCK. Tomanually turn off therear defroster before15 minutes havepassed, push thecontrol again. Whenthe rear windowdefroster is activated,ice, mist and fog will

be removed fromboth outside heatedmirrors (if equipped).Like the rear windowdefroster, the mirrorshave an auto time-out feature that willturn the system offafter 15 minutes.

13. REVERSE SENSINGSYSTEM (If equipped)This system soundsa tone to warn thedriver of obstaclesnear the rear bumper,when R (Reverse) isselected and thevehicle is moving atspeeds less than3 mph (5km/h).The closer you get tothe obstacle, themore the rate of the

tone increases.When an obstacle isless than 10 inchesaway, the tonesounds continuously.The system is noteffective at speedsabove 3 mph (5 km/h)and may not detectcertain angular ormoving objects.

AUTO-DIMMINGREARVIEW MIRROR(If equipped) TheAuto-DimmingRearview Mirror isequipped with afeature that willreduce glare in therearview mirrorwhen bright lightsare detected. Itautomatically returnsto normal /clearwhen the vehicle isplaced in R (Reverse).

REMOTE ENTRYSYSTEM (If equipped)Your vehicle may beequipped with aremote entry systemwhich allows you tolock or unlock thevehicle’s doorswithout a key. Pressthe unlock buttononce to unlock thedriver’s door, twiceto unlock all doors.Pressing the lockbutton once will lockall doors and the

park/turn lamps willflash once. Pressingthe button a secondtime will chirp thehorn to confirm thatall doors are closedand locked. It alsoallows you toactivate a personalalarm. For moreinformation, pleaseconsult yourOwner’s Guide.

KEYLESS ENTRYKEYPAD You can usethe Keyless EntryKeypad to lock orunlock the doorswithout a key. Thekeypad can be operat-ed with the factory setfive-digit entry code.This code is on theowner’s wallet card inthe glove box. Enterthis code and withinfive seconds press the1•2 on the keypad.Enter your personalfive-digit code. Thedoors will again lockthen unlock, to confirmthat your personalkeycode has beenprogrammed tothe module.

TWO STEP UNLOCKINGTo unlock the driver’sdoor, turn the key inthe door cylinderonce toward the frontof the vehicle. Turnthe key a second timeto unlock all passengerdoors, liftgate, andliftgate glass.To lock all doors,liftgate, and liftgateglass, turn the keytoward the back ofthe vehicle once.

SECURILOCK™PASSIVE ANTI-THEFTSYSTEM This systemis designed to helpprevent the enginefrom being startedunless a coded key,programmed to yourvehicle, is used. YourSecurilock™ system isarmed immediatelyafter switching theignition to the LOCKposition. The theftindicator will flashevery two secondswhen the vehicle isarmed. Switching theignition to the RUNposition with a codedkey disarms thesystem. Your vehiclecomes with two codedkeys. Additional codedkeys can be purchasedfrom your authorizeddealer. HEATED FRONT SEATS(If equipped) Toactivate heatedseats, push thecontrol located onthe side of the seat.Push it again todeactivate, or thesystem will turn offautomatically after10 minutes, or whenthe ignition is turnedto the LOCK position.

GEARSHIFT /OVERDRIVE CONTROLOverdrive is thenormal driveposition for the bestfuel economy. Onlyturn Overdrive OFFwhen driving with aheavy load, towing atrailer up or downsteep hills, or whenadditional enginebraking is needed.To deactivate, pressthe switch locatedon the side of thegearshift lever.

FUEL PUMP SHUT OFFSWITCH This devicestops the electricfuel pump fromsending fuel to theengine when yourvehicle has had asubstantial jolt. Afteran accident, if youfind that the enginecranks, but does notstart, this switchmay have beenactivated. The fuelpump shut off switchis in the frontpassenger’s footwell,behind a flip-upcover, by the kickpanel access cover.

LOCATION OF SPARETIRE AND TOOLSThe jack and toolsare either under thecarpeted floorboardor in the right rear ofthe cargo areabehind an accesspanel. The spare tireis under the rearof the vehicle. Formore information,please consult yourOwner’s Guide.

TIRE PRESSURESafe operation ofyour Mariner requiresyour tires to beproperly inflated.The recommendedinflation pressureis found on thetire label or thecertification label onthe driver’s door.At least once amonth and beforelong trips, inspecteach tire and checkthe air pressure witha tire gauge. Don’tforget the spare.

Air pressure shouldbe checked whenthe tires are cold.

CHANGING THE TIRESIf you get a flat tirewhile driving, do notapply the brakeheavily. Instead,gradually decreaseyour speed. Hold thesteering wheel firmlyand slowly move to asafe place onto theside of the road.Your vehicle isequipped with atemporary spare tire,which is smallerthan a regular tire,and is designed foremergency use only.

ROADSIDE ASSISTANCEIn addition to yourNew Vehicle LimitedWarranty, Ford MotorCompany providesnew vehicle ownerswith a complimentaryroadside assistanceprogram. This serviceis available 24 hoursa day, seven days a

week for three yearsor 36,000 miles. Itcovers changing aflat tire, jump starts,limited fuel delivery,lock-out assistance,and towing yourvehicle. Call 800-241-3673 forRoadside Assistance.

FUEL TANK CAPACITYVehicles equippedwith 2.3L four-cylinderengines and 3.0Lsix-cylinder engineshave 16.5 gallon(62.5L) fuel tanks.

REAR WINDOW BUFFETING Whenone or both of yourrear windows areopen, the vehiclemay demonstrate awind throb or buffeting noise. Thisis common among awide range of vehicles and can beeliminated by simplylowering a front window two to three inches.

02. CD Press to enterCD mode. If a CD isalready loaded intothe system, the CDplay will beginwhere it last ended.

05. PANEL ANDFLOOR Distributesoutside air throughthe instrument panelregisters andfloor vents.

06. OFF Outside air isshut off and the fanwill not operate. Thismode can also beused to preventundesirable odorsfrom entering thevehicle, but onlyfor a short periodof time.

07. FLOOR Allows formaximum heatingby distributingoutside air throughthe floor vents.

08. FLOOR ANDDEFROST Distributesoutside air throughthe windshielddefroster vents, thedemister vents, andthe floor vents.

09. DEFROSTDistributes outsideair through thewindshield defrostervents and thedemister vents.It can be used toclear ice or fog fromthe windshield.

10. TEMPERATURECONTROL Rotatethe knob to adjustthe temperature ofthe airflow insidethe vehicle.
