GENERAL DESCRIPTION

The Lab-Volt Instrumentation and Process ControlTraining System introduces students to a wide range ofindustrial processes (pressure, flow, level, and eventemperature) as well as with their instruments and control.The use of modern equipment coupled with a completetraining program helps students to get the theoretical andpractical knowledge that is mandatory to work in theprocess control industry.

The modularity of this energy-efficient system allowsthe instructor to select specific equipment as a functionof the training objectives without going over budget.Several configurations are available for a singleworkstation. Adding optional equipment can increase thenumber of these configurations.

The Instrumentation and Process Control TrainingSystem features two workstations: the ProcessWorkstation and the Instrumentation Workstation. The

Structure of the Instrumentation and Process Control Training System

system can accomodate a single team of students for thetemperature experiments and up to two teams for thepressure, flow, and level experiments if the second-teamadd-on is used.

One controller from the 3539 Series is required foreach team working on the system (Unless aCompactLogix or ControlLogix PLC is shared). A widechoice of optional equipment is available. Refer to thecharts below for details on the general structure of theInstrumentation and Process Control Training System.

Process WorkstationThe Process Workstation is a double-sided mobileworkstation with a 170-liter (45-gal) tank, a centrifugalpump, a Rotameter, a Column (Large Diameter), a DripTray (Front), an Instrumentation Mounting Pipe, BallValves, and Process Supports.

Two groups of students can work at the same timeon pressure, flow, and level experiments, one group oneach side of the Process Workstation, if the SecondTeam Add-on, Model 3530-A is ordered. Temperatureexperiments can be performed by only one team at atime.

To configure the system for hands-on training, thestudents have to install the appropriate instruments asdescribed in the student manuals. The student manualscover both the theory and practice of measurement,control, and troubleshooting of pressure, flow, and levelprocesses.

The dimensions of the Process Workstation(excluding any device installed on it) are: 1.73 m x 0.80 mx 1.83 m (5'8'' x 2'8'' x 6'0'').

Instrumentation WorkstationThe Instrumentation Workstation is designed to house theElectrical Unit and the Pneumatic Unit as well as otherelectrical equipment. Devices such as controllers, PLC,Color Paperless Recorder, and Touch Screen GraphicTerminal must be installed on the InstrumentationWorkstation. The workstation aims to recreate thewidespread industrial practice of separating the processenvironment from the instruments and controllers and itlimits the risk of such equipment coming in contact withwater.

The Electrical Unit provides power for the wholesystem. It includes a lockable power switch, a variablespeed drive, and a 24 V dc power supply. The design ofthe Electrical Unit allows cutoff of both the electric andpneumatic power using either an emergency button or thelockable power switch. The teaching material includes acomplete lockout/tagout procedure explaining how to lockthe power switch. This procedure is similar to theprocedure used in industry to lock and unlock electricalequipment.

Like the Process Workstation, the InstrumentationWorkstation is a double-sided mobile workstation. Twogroups of students can work at the same time on thesystem, one group on each side.

The Instrumentation Workstation also features astorage cabinet with lockable doors and a retractableshelf.

The dimensions of the Instrumentation Workstation(excluding any device installed on it) are: 0.61 m x0.875 m x 1.89 m (2'0'' x 2'10'' x 6'2'').

Pressure, Flow, and Level Process SystemThis system includes the equipment required to completethe measurement, control, and troubleshooting exercisesfor the pressure, flow, and level processes.

This system features two differential pressure trans-mitters supporting the HART® communication protocol,a digital pressure gauge, a pneumatic control valve, acolor paperless recorder, a rotameter, and a Venturi tube.Transmitters supporting other communication protocolssuch as FOUNDATION Fieldbus are available on request.

SCADA / DCS SoftwareTwo SCADA software programs are available for thesystem: Wonderware Development Studio (includingInTouch) and FactoryTalk View Studio (from RockwellSoftware). Both software programs come with aninterface specially designed for the Instrumentation andProcess Control Training System. An OPC server for theFoxboro controller is also available.

Calibration InstrumentationAn accurate calibration device is an essential addition tothe system. It allows calibration and maintenance of thetransmitters, current to pressure converter, gauges, andcontrol valves. Four different calibration packages areavailable. A basic version makes it possible to performthe required calibration and a second version includesmore advanced equipment.

Three other calibration kits are each designed to act asconfigurator and sophisticated tools to calibrate the smartdevices over the HART and/or the FOUNDATIONFieldbus communication protocols.

Other devicesOther devices are also available to enhance the system.These devices allow the students to explore moretechnologies and communication protocols used in theindustry. Among the optional devices available are:C a Signal TowerC Touch Screen Graphic Terminal (available in two sizes)C an additional Pumping Unit

Smart devices: HART® and FOUNDATION™

FieldbusMany components of the Instrumentation and ProcessControl Training System feature a transmitter which isable to communicate via one of two communicationprotocols: HART or FOUNDATION Fieldbus.

The HART protocol enables communication betweendevices by superimposing digital signals on top of theexisting 4-20 mA outputs. The Fieldbus protocol is like aLocal Area Network (LAN) for smart devices.

Most of these devices can usually be configuredmanually via their alphanumeric display and/or push-buttons, but it is much quicker and more efficient to usea communication link to configure them remotely from acomputer. The HART apparatuses can be connected toa computer using the HART Software Configurator (Model46982- 0 or -B). Fieldbus devices can be configured froma computer with the FOUNDATION Fieldbus SoftwareConfigurator (Model 46982-A or -B). Calibration kits areavailable for each of the two communication protocols.

A Software Configurator compatible with the selectedcommunication protocol is strongly suggested and is evenmandatory for some specific transmitters.

TroubleshootingTroubleshooting of industrial process equipment is anintegral part of the learning process. This is why theInstrumentation and Process Control Training Systemfeatures many tools to help instructors devisetroubleshooting exercises for the students. Faults can beinserted in most devices: Controllers, PLCs, Valves,Transmitters, etc.

Simulation of boiling water in the Process Column.

Three different methods to insert faults exist:C Local Fault Insertion is done by accessing the fault

panel on a particular device to activate faults asrequired.

C Remote Calibration Fault is performed by changing thecalibration parameters of a device from the instructor'scomputer over either the HART or the Fieldbuscommunication protocol (requires the appropriatemodules).

C Remote Fault Insertion is done by remotely modifyingthe state of I/O relays on a controller or a PLC from acomputer or from a Touch Screen Terminal.

Pressure and Flow – Compressed AirAn instrumentation and process control system forcompressed air is also available as an add-on to the 3530system. Measurement and control experiments relatedto pressure and flow of compressed air can be done withthe following devices:C Air TanksC Air RotameterC Orifice Plate for airC Solenoid Valve for airC Pneumatic Control Valve for air

Temperature Process SystemThis add-on to the main system features the equipmentrequired to complete the measurement, control, andtroubleshooting exercises for temperature processes. Itincludes a Heating/Cooling Unit, a Brazed Plate HeatExchanger, a three-way control valve, a thermocouple,an RTD (Resistance Temperature Detector), and atemperature transmitter. The temperature transmitter cansupport either the HART or the FOUNDATION Fieldbuscommunication protocols.

A variety of optional heat exchangers is available foradvanced training in temperature process control:C a Gasketed Plate Heat ExchangerC a Shell and Tube Heat Exchanger (1 pass)C a Shell and Tube Heat Exchanger (4 pass)

Boiler Simulation (Water / Air)The Boiler Simulation system is an inherently safe boilersimulator which is not pressurized and works with waterat room temperature. The key features of a boilingprocess are replicated with a controlled flow of air injectedat the base of a process column containing a controllablelevel of water. Up to three elements and three controlloops (2 PID loops and 1 calibrator) are involved in thecontrol of the level of water in the drum of the boiler.

The boiling process is recreated by regulating the flowof air injected in the column while operating a secondpump which drains the column to simulate evaporationof water. The Boiler Simulation system is a synthesis ofmany industrial control notions and involves multiplecontrol loops as well as feedforward and cascade control.

The Boiler Simulation is an add-on to theInstrumentation and Process Control Training System.As it requires two pumps (the second pump is includedwith the Boiler Simulation system), the boiler system canonly be used by one team at a time. A controller with aminimum of two PID loops capable of both cascade andfeedforward control and a 4-20 mA calibrator are alsonecessary.

As both cascade and feedforward control schemes areused, the advanced P/F/L add-on (Model 3530-E0) isrequired and it is assumed that the students are familiarwith these topics beforehand. control notions and involvesmultiple control loops as well as feed-forward and ratiocontrol.

Advanced Process Control - Pressure/Flow/LevelThe inclusion of this add-on to the Process ControlTraining system (Model 3530-0) offers the capability toperform a set of advanced process control experiments.The experiments include feedforward control, ratiocontrol, split-range control, and the control ofsecond-order processes. The add-on includes asmall-diameter column, an upper tank, an orifice plate,a pneumatic control valve, and some accessories.

Advanced Process Control - TemperatureThe inclusion of this add-on (Model 3531-2 or -3) to theProcess Control Training system offers the possibility toperform a set of advanced temperature controlexperiments. The main feature resides in the use ofelectromagnetic flowmeters and RTDs coupled to theenergy manager to obtain precise energy balances.

Air requirementsThe Instrumentation and Process Control TrainingSystem requires a reliable source of compressed air fromeither a central air supply or a portable unit. Your centralair supply or your portable unit must be able to deliver airat a minimal flow of 110 l/min (4 CFM) with a pressure of620 kPa (90 PSI).

Compressed air units are available from your Lab-Voltrepresentative. Model 6410-BX is a portable unit whilemodels 3912-2X and 3912-MX have a much largercapacity. All those models are well suited to the system.

MODULE DESCRIPTION

Model 3245 – RSLogix 500

The RSLogix 500 software is an efficient tool to designand implement ladder programs for the Allen-Bradley SLC500™ and MicroLogix™ family of processors, such as theProgrammable Logic Controller (MicroLogix), Model46964. It is a Windows®-based application, produced byRockwell Software, that allows a PLC to be programmedusing a PC-type computer.

The free-form ladder of RSLogix 500 lets the studentconcentrate on the application logic rather than on usingthe proper syntax when editing programs. Several otherfeatures of RSLogix 500, such as a powerful projectverifier, drag-and-drop editing, and search-and-replacefunctions, greatly facilitate PLC programming. The PLCcan be programmed via either a RS-232 port or anEthernet port on the PLC processor. This software comeswith RSLinx™ which provides connectivity between thePLC and the PC-type computer.

The software is available with either an educationallicense (Model 3245-A) or as a commercial version(Model 3245-B).

Model 3246-4 – Communication Cable

The Communication Cable, Model 3246-40, is anRS-232-C serial cable specifically designed to connecta PC-type computer to the Programmable LogicController (MicroLogix), Model 46964, thus making itpossible to program and monitor the PLC.

Model 5922-B0 – Touch Screen Graphic Terminal

The Touch Screen Graphic Terminal consists of an Allen-Bradley PanelView™ Plus 600 with a 140-mm (5.5-in)display offering a 320 x 240 resolution. This color touch-screen interface allows the user to monitor and controlmany devices of the Instrumentation and Process ControlTraining System. The Touch Screen Graphic Terminal ispre-programmed with a control interface developed withthe various components of the system in mind. Theterminal also features an integrated EtherNet/IPcommunication port and an RS-232 serial port.

The FactoryTalk software (Model 46968) is optionaland can be used to design your own control interface.

Model 5924-C – Signal Tower

The Signal Tower consists of three lights providing visualsignals for various states of the Instrumentation andProcess Control Training System. Lights are stacked oneupon another, up to five modules. Each module is easilyprogrammable without any special wiring or tools. AnAcoustic Alarm, Model 39303, is available as an option.

Model 5925-A – Indicator-Light/Push-ButtonStation

The Indicator-Light/Push-Button Station consists of threeindustrial push-buttons, one normally-closed and twonormally-open, used to operate the Instrumentation and

Process Control Training System. The Indicator-Light/Push-Button Station also features three indicatorlights. Both the push-buttons and the indicator lightsoperate at a voltage of 24 V. Electrical connections canbe made using either the banana jacks or the terminalblocks available on the module. This module has fourswitches that the instructor can use to insert faults.

Model 5926-A – Emergency Switch Station

The Emergency Switch Station consists of a mush-room-type push-button that opens its circuit when thebutton is pressed in order to cut the power to some of the24-V dc outputs of the Electrical Unit, the Pneumatic Unit,and the pump drive.

Model 5927-C – AC Drive (Ethernet)

The AC Drive (Ethernet) comprises an industrial Allen-Bradley PowerFlex 40® 1.0 HP AC Drive used to controlthe Pumping Unit (Add-on), Model 46904. It featurescontrol inputs and outputs as well as insertable faults. Itcomes equipped with the required cables and hasEthernet communcation capabilities.

Model 5935 – RSLogix 5000

RSLogix 5000 is a Windows-based application, producedby Rockwell Software™, used to build programs forPLCs. The lite edition is compatible with a ProgrammableLogic Controller (CompactLogix), Model 46966. The fulledition is required for a Programmable Logic Controller(ControlLogix), Model 46965.

RSLogix 5000 provides a powerful integratedinterface allowing users to easily build programs usingfour programming languages: Relay ladder, structuredtext, sequential function chart, and function block

diagram. The software allows students to concentrate onthe logic aspects of PLC programming instead ofspending time on complex syntax. It also features drag-and-drop editing, search-and-replace functions, and toolsfor verifying programs before running them on a PLC.RSLogix 5000 can be used to program a PLC via thebuilt-in RS-232 port or via an Ethernet link. The softwarecomes with RSLinx lite which provides the functionalityrequired to support RSLogix and RSNetWorx.

Model 5938 – Fuzzy Logic Software Add-on

The Fuzzy Logic Software Add-on features FuzzyDesigner, an add-on to RSLogix 5000 which lets youdesign and implement fuzzy logic algorithms on acontroller of the Logix 5000 family. Fuzzy Designerincludes an extensive component library to help youquickly build your algorithms which can be used in anyRSLogix 5000 program.

Model 33984-1 – NOVRAM Module

The configuration of a Foxboro controller is stored on aNOVRAM Memory Module. An optional ConfigurationCopy Accessory (33985-1) allows the content of amemory module to be duplicated onto a second memorymodule. The second module can be either a spareNOVRAM Memory Module (33984-1) used as a backupor it can be the memory module from another controller.Doing so allows any number of controllers to beconfigured with the same parameter values. Model 46761-B and -C – Digital Pressure Gauge

Model 46795-A – DriveTools Software

The DriveTools Software is a family of software tools builtfor Windows®, produced by Allen-Bradley, that providesa simplified programming interface for programming,troubleshooting, and maintaining the Allen-Bradley ACand DC drive products. It includes DriveExecutiveSoftware, Model 46795, and DriveObserver.DriveObserver software provides a straight-forwardinterface for creating charts, collecting data, and savingand viewing data. DriveObserver is designed to co-existwith DriveExecutive and automatically detects all theonline connections currently open in DriveExecutive.

Model 46801-C – Process Workstation

The Process Workstation is the backbone of the systemon which the processes take place. It consists of adouble-sided mobile workstation comprising a 170-liter(45 gal) tank and a centrifugal pump. Two groups ofstudents can work on the system at the same time, onegroup on each side. The steel frame of the ProcessWorkstation ensures reliability and longevity of thesystem.

The Process Workstation is delivered partly-assembled and requires assembling before use. Thestation is mounted on lockable casters to facilitate itsmobility.

Model 46801-D – Storage Station

The Storage Station is an optional piece of equipmentdesigned to securely and conveniently store theaccessories and the various optional models which arenot required for the particular process taking place on theProcess Workstation.

It includes space to store up to four flange tops, manyflowmeters and control valves on six galvanized struts(three on each side), a few devices on the twoInstrumentation Mounting Pipe, and miscellaneous piecesof equipment in the three painted stainless steel storageboxes at the bottom of the station.

The station itself is mounted on lockable casters tofacilitate the mobility of the station. The dimensions of theStorage Station (excluding any device installed on it) are1.02 m x 0.81 m x 1.83 m (3'4" x 2'8" x 6').

Model 46801-H – Process Workstation(Temperature Add-on)

This workstation is an add-on to the main ProcessWorkstation. It provides housing for the extra tank and thepumps required during temperature experiments. Theworkstation also provides an extended workspace onwhich the processes can be performed.

Model 46900 – Instrumentation Workstation

The Instrumentation Workstation is designed to house theElectrical Unit, the Pneumatic Unit, as well as all otherelectrical equipment that are not measuring instruments.Devices such as controllers, PLCs, Color PaperlessRecorders, and Touch Screen Graphic Terminals mustbe installed on the Instrumentation Workstation. Thisprevents the equipment from coming in contact withwater.

Like the Process Workstation, the InstrumentationWorkstation is a double-sided mobile workstation. Twogroups of students can work on the system at the sametime, one group on each side. It comprises a storagecabinet with a lockable door to store some modules andequipment and features as well a convenient sliding table.

The Instrumentation Workstation (Model 46900-0) isdelivered unassembled and must be assembled beforeuse. A pre-assembled version is also available (Model46900-A).

A hitch mechanism used to link the InstrumentationWorkstation to the Process Workstation is part of thePiping and Accessories kit (Model 46993). Thisconvenient piece of equipment makes it possible to moveboth stations as a single unit. The hitch system must beinstalled and used as shown in the picture below.

Model 46900-D – Instrumentation Workstation withHeating/Cooling Unit

The Instrumentation Workstation is designed to house thesupplementary drives required by the temperatureprocesses as well as an Electrical Unit and an ElectricDistribution Box. A Heating/Cooling Unit with a24000 BTU/hour (2 kW) capacity is installed on theInstrumentation Workstation to allow for the cooling andheating of the water used in the temperature experiments.

Model 46901 – Column (Large Diameter)

The Column (Large Diameter) is a large watertightprocess column made of clear acrylic plastic with acapacity of 30.4 liters (8.025 gal). It has an inner diameterof 20.3 cm (8 in) and a height of 93.7 cm (36.9 in).

The column comprises three ports at the top andbottom of the column which can be connected to theprocess loop or sealed off with a cap. A ruler is affixed tothe column to make simple visual measurements of thelevel of liquid inside the column. Pressure ports allow forthe measurement of the pressure at the bottom and at thetop of the column. A safety valve is installed at the top ofthe column to prevent the pressure from exceeding a safelimit. The safety valve starts to open at 240 kPa (35 psi)and is fully open at a pressure of 345 kPa (50 psi).

The column features an industrial flange that canhouse one of many optional level sensors and it containsa stainless steel baffle plate to reduce turbulence at thebottom water intake. It comes equipped with a bubblertube to infer the level of fluid in the column. The columncan also accomodate a variety of sensors inserted at itsbase.

Model 46902 – Column (Small Diameter)

The Column (Small Diameter) is a watertight processcolumn made of clear PVC with a capacity of 7.6 liters(2.0 gal). It has an inner diameter of 10.16 cm (4 in) anda height of 93.7 cm (36.9 in).

The column comprises two ports at the top andbottom of the column which can be connected to theprocess loop or sealed off with a cap. Model 46903 – Upper Tank

The Upper Tank is a 26.5 liters (7 gal) tank made ofheavy duty polyethylene. The Upper Tank is used tocreate non-interacting second-order processes and isdesigned to be installed on the top of the ProcessWorkstation. It features a total of five connection ports.

Model 46904 – Pumping Unit (Add-on)

The Pumping Unit is an add-on to the Instrumentation andProcess Control Training System. It is a second pumpwhich can be used by a team working on the second sideof the workstation so as to avoid sharing the primarypump with the team on the other side. The second pumpcan also be used to drain one or two columns inadvanced control experiments. The model includes thetubing and the equipment required to install the pump onthe process workstation.

Model 46905 – Brazed Plate Heat Exchanger

The Brazed Plate Heat Exchanger is designed to transferheat from a warm fluid to a cold one. Model 46906 – Air Tank (Large)

This Air Tank is a robust 7.6 liters (2 gal) ASME-compliantpressure vessel designed to contain pressurized air. Itfeatures two pressure ports equipped with a quick-connect fitting (1/4 inch) and a graduated hand-operatedvalve. The tank can withstand a pressure up to 150 psi.

Model 46906-A – Air Tank (Small)

This Air Tank is a robust 0.95 liters (1/4 gal) pressurevessel designed to contain pressurized air. It features twopressure ports each equipped with a quick-connect fitting(1/4 inch) and a graduated hand-operated valve. The tankis coated to resist corrosion and can withstand a pressureup to 150 psi. This tank is tested to SAE J10 compliance.

Model 46907 – Muffler Assembly

The Muffler Assembly is composed of two air inlet portsconnected to a muffler to reduce exhaust noise. Agraduated hand valve for each air inlet restricts theaccess to the muffler while a third one is used to link thetwo input lines.

Model 46910 – Rotameter

The Rotameter is a variable area flowmeter calibrated tomeasure the flow of water in the process loop. It providesa direct visual reading of the flow rate by observing theposition of the float inside the transparent graduated tube.

Model 46911 – Venturi Tube

The Venturi Tube is a flow measurement device whichrelies on the Venturi effect to produce a pressure dropfrom which the flow rate can be inferred. This apparatusprovides a clear picture of the phenomena and offers alow permanent pressure-loss.

The Venturi Tube requires the use of a differentialpressure transmitter to transform the pressure drop intoa usable flow rate value.

Model 46912 – Orifice Plate

The Orifice Plate is a flow measurement device using theVenturi effect to produce a pressure drop from which theflow rate can be inferred. This primary element consistsof a thin metal plate with a sharp-edged upstreamaperture (orifice) inserted between two flanges at thelocation where the flow must be determined. This modelis provided with three different plates.

The Orifice Plate requires the use of a differentialpressure transmitter to transform the pressure drop intoa usable flow rate value.

Model 46913 – Pitot Tube

The Orifice Plate (Air) is a flow measurement devicedesigned for air applications. It uses the Venturi effect toproduce a pressure drop from which the flow rate can beinferred. The Platinum RTD 100 is a resistive thermal device whichuses the change of electrical resistance of platinum withchanging temperature to determine the temperature. Thismodel comes with the T-shaped connector and athermowell for including this temperature-measuringelement on your process loop.

Model 46920 and 46921 – Differential-PressureTransmitter – (High Range) & (Low Range)

A differential pressure transmitter is an instrument thatsenses a pressure difference between two points andconverts the pressure to a standardized electronic signalwhich can be sent to a control element. The transmittercan be configured so that its signal is either proportionalto a pressure differential, a flow rate, or a level.

The High Range version of the differential pressuretransmitter is designed to operate in a range going froma difference of 0 kPa (0 psi) to an absolute difference of1.6 MPa (240 psi). On the other hand, the Low Rangeversion operates in a range going from a difference of0 kPa (0 psi) to an absolute difference of 50 kPa (7.3 psi).

Model 46933 – Vibrating Fork Level Switch

The Vibrating Fork Level Switch is a level limit switchused to detect wheter or not the level of water in thecolumn has reached a set level. The fork of the switch iscontinuously excited at its natural resonance frequency.When the level of liquid reaches the fork, the frequencyof oscillation changes. Model 46934 – Conductivity Level Switch

The Conductivity Level Switch is a level limit switch madeof three probe rods of different lengths. When two of theprobe rods come in contact with the conductive liquid, ameasurable current flows between the two rods whichallows the student to detect that a certain level has beenreached. The three-rod configuration allows the detectionand the monitoring of a low and a high level of liquid inthe Instrumentation and Process Control Training Systemcolumn. It comprises a total of two output relays.

Model 46935 – Float Switch

The Float Switch is a level limit switch triggered when afloat is raised by buoyancy forces as the level of liquid inthe column reaches the float. The Float Switch has onecontact which can be configured to be either normallyclosed or normally open. Its length can also be adjustedto accomodate the detection of different levels.

Model 46936 – Capacitive Level Transmitter

The Capacitive Level Transmitter (HART) is a levelmeasurement device based on the change in thecapacitance of a capacitor (i.e. the water in the column)as the level of fluid constituting the capacitor varies.Capacitive systems work reliably and accurately in mostconditions, even extreme temperatures and highpressures. This model includes a 4-20 mA output tomonitor the level in the column and is compatible with theHART communication protocol. The device can also beconfigured manually via its alphanumeric display andpush-buttons.

The PID Controller (Honeywell) is composed of aHoneywell UDC3500 Dual Loop Controller. The Honey-well controller can implement the different PID proceduresand is able to perform cascade control. A wirelessinfrared communication port enables controller setup froma computer or Pocket PC (neither is included), and anethernet communication port allows simple connectionto a network. The controller features a fluorescent displaywith push-buttons, a simple configuration software tosetup the controller from a computer, math and logicpackages, and other advanced features like fuzzy logicand autotune functions. InTouch is a human-machine interface (HMI) suitedeveloped by Wonderware. It is used to design graphicinterfaces for the control, optimization, and managementof processes. InTouch can take charge and monitor mostdevices including the Foxboro controller, but PLCs arenot supported.

InTouch Dev Studio is a complete developmentenvironment used to design and test HMI applicationsand distributed control system solutions. This softwaresupports up to a thousand device tags and also haslimited runtime capabilities which are sufficient for single-node deployment. An OPC server to exchange data witha Foxboro controller (Model 46960) is also included.

The Pneumatic Unit regulates the pressurized air comingfrom an external compressed air source that is used withthe Instrumentation and Process Control Training System.It includes an activation switch to quickly turn on or off theair supplied, air filters, an adjustable low-range pressureregulator (0 to 200 kPa (0 to 30 psi)) with its output airport, and an adjustable high-range pressure regulator (0to 700 kPa (0 to 100 psi)) with its output air port. A faultpanel is included to insert a fault in the system whenperforming troubleshooting exercises.

Model 46972 – Color Paperless Recorder

The Color Paperless Recorder is a state-of-the-art devicedesigned to acquire, display, record, and archive analoginput signals. Four high-speed 4-20 mA inputs with a scantime of 100 ms are available and can be displayed on theTFT 7'' color display. The device can be configured usingpush-buttons and a shuttle dial, and it can beprogrammed to activate one of four output relays asrequired by the user. The data acquired can be recordedin the internal memory of the apparatus and it can alsobe transferred to a USB stick for archival or transfer to aPC. An Ethernet port is available to include the recorderin a PC network (TCP/IP).

Model 46973 – Touch Screen Graphic Terminal

The Touch Screen Graphic Terminal consists of an Allen-Bradley PanelView™ Plus 1000 with a 264-mm (10.4-in)display offering a 640 x 480 resolution. This color touch-screen interface allows monitoring and control of someof the Instrumentation and Process Control TrainingSystem features. The Touch Screen Graphic Terminal ispre-programmed with a control interface developped withthe various components of the system in mind. It featuresan integrated EtherNet/IP communication port, two USBports and an RS-232 serial port.

Model 46974 –Energy Manager

The Energy Manager is a device used to record thetemperatures measured at different points in the system.It can use the flow rate signals coming from optionaltransmitters to calculate energy balances in real time. TheEnergy Manager features an alphanumeric display witheight buttons and is powered by a 24 V dc signal. Up tofour Platinum RTDs (Model 46917) can be connected tothe inputs of the Energy Manager. Output relays and 4-20mA outputs are also part of the device. The device canbe programmed using a computer and a serial cable.

The FOUNDATION Fieldbus Bridge is a device used toestablish a link between a computer, a PLC of theLogix5000 family (ControlLogix and CompactLogix), anda network of Fieldbus devices. The FOUNDATIONFieldbus Bridge connects to the computer and the PLCvia an Ethernet/IP network. The RS Fieldbus Software,Model 46985, is required to control and interface with thedifferent Fieldbus devices.

Model 46980 – Calibration Kit

The Calibration Kit (shown above) includes the equipmentrequired to precisely adjust the control valves and toperform diagnostic tests on electrical devices. The kitcontains a Fluke 725 multifunction process calibratorwhich can act as a source and measure differentparameters. A sphygmomanometer completes the kit andis used to calibrate pressure devices.

The Calibration Kit includes the equipment required toprecisely adjust the control valves, perform diagnostictests, and interface with smart devices.

The HART version of the kit (Model 46981-0)contains a Fluke 744 documenting process calibrator withHART capabilities to calibrate, maintain, and troubleshootHART devices. The Fluke calibrator acts as a source andmeasures pressure, temperature, and electrical signals.

The other version of the kit (Model 46981-A) iscompatible with both HART and Fieldbus. It includes anEmerson 475 Field Communicator: a universal HART andFieldbus communicator.
