Instrumentation Design Rationale
Enabling efficient, repeatable, tissue-sparing total hip replacement.
Balancing the potential benefits of less invasive techniques, including accelerating recovery with less pain,
with the goals of optimizing function and maximizing implant survivorship.
A comprehensive instrumentation system designed to enhance tissue preservation during surgery,
whether it is a mini-posterior, anterolateral, 2-Incision or anterior approach.

Direct 2-Incison Core Instrument SetThe kit contains retractors and ancillaries designed specifically for the Direct 2-Incision technique, as pioneered
by Jack Irving, M.D. However, many of the instruments contained in the kit, such as the femoral head ball/trial
head holder, long-handled scalpel blade holder, long-handled rongeur and narrow and sharp cobra retractors
also have broad application across the range of less-invasive surgical techniques.

MI Acetabular PreparationTSS Low-Profile ReamersDesigned to allow easier access into the acetabulum during a minimally invasive procedure.
The reamers' low-profile shape and rounded edges enables easy insertion into the wound
with less risk of soft tissue damage. The reamers also allow for concentric reaming.

MAcS Acetabular Set
Othy Acetabular Set
The Minimally Invasive Acetabular Set (MAcS) is designed to enable access to the
acetabulum through a variety of less invasive surgical exposures, including the
mini-anterolateral, mini-posterolateral, direct 2-Incision and anterior approaches.
The instrument angulation and slim profile allows passage through a small
incision directly into the joint space without disrupting the surrounding tissue,
using either the TSS Low-Profile Graters or Quickset Graters.
The Othy Acetabular Set of less invasive acetabular instruments features
angled geometry that allows the surgeon to minimize incision length while
still maintaining accurate cup alignment.

Modular Box Osteotome 2598-07-530
The modular box osteotome is designed to attach to any of the technique specific
broach handles to allow the surgeon to easily open the femoral canal in patients
and surgical approaches where a straight, monoblock osteotome is not appropriate.
Posterior Broach Handle 2598-07-540
The Posterior Broach Handle is designed to facilitate easier
broaching during a posterior approach with an increased
handle body length to allow for surgical wound preservation.
The broach handle also features a wider strike plate and
optional version control rod (part number 2001-97-000)
attachment to provide smoother broach extraction.

Dual Offset Anterior Approach Broach Handle
Left 2598-07-350, Right 2598-07-360
The Dual Offset Anterior Approach Broach Handles are designed for use with
the Anterior Approach to enable broaching in obese or muscular patients.
The instrument's dual-angled design reduces soft-tissue impingement for
wound clearance and minimizes soft-tissue damage during broaching.

Technique-specific femoral component inserters:
The modular stem inserters are designed to allow accurate stem placement during a minimally invasive posterior, anterolateral or anterior approach. Their various geometries allow the surgeon to avoid soft tissue impingement during all aspects of insertion.

TSS Core Case 1
Femoral PreparationCompatible with the Summit, Corail and Tri-Lock Bone Preservation Stem systems, the TSS Core kits feature
instrumentation to facilitate the femoral preparation for a surgeon using an anterolateral, posterior or anterior approach.
To further enhance OR flexibility the kits hold two sets of trial heads, up to size 44 mm, and can accommodate two
different broach handles of any of the designs mentioned below.

S-ROM® MI InstrumentationThe S-ROM minimally invasive instrumentation includes the Mini Calcar Miller and the S-ROM Calcar Broaching System.
A modular inserter included with the broaches provides greater rotational control during implantation, and the modular
forks allow for less trunion overhang, reducing the possibility of impingement against surgical instrumentation or
soft tissues. The lateralizing rasps included in the system enable the surgeon to retain important lateral soft tissue
attachments, while creating a cavity that permits insertion of the trial and final femoral component.
