A complete packaging solution is only possible

when the whole supply-chain picture is

understood - end-to-end, and is unique to

each customer. In a rapidly changing and

competitive business environment, the need

to improve service and reduce cost is a

continuous activity. The area of packaging

logistics is one of the biggest opportunities to

find significant cost take out - while improving

performance, efficiency and environmental

stewardship. This is the core of what we do.

Recently, Integra went to the market via an

external agency - to check the ‘Health’ of our

brand, our promise and our performance.

I want to thank our participating Stakeholders

for their responses and assistance in this

exercise. In our case, along with a highly

positive response were some important points

for review. Some of our ‘blind spots’ require

an overhaul – and we welcome the chance

to improve those areas. We see continued

improvements to our ‘business health’ as an

important discipline - and smart business.

Thank you for your interest in this edition.

Roger Till - Managing Director

In an exciting development, Integra Packaging

will provide packaging solutions for key

Partners in the JSF supply chain. Cost-take-

out and risk mitigation are primary goals

as Integra works with partners to achieve

solutions with long-term positive implications &

benefits through the supply chain.

These include but are not confined to,

Efficiency Gains, Nil Damage Goals, OH&S

and Chain of Responsibility Conformance and

Just-In-Time deliveries for critical Deadline

Management.

(Ask one of our team how we can reduce

your total cost of packaging logistics).

The requirements for task-specific packaging

protection for high-end, engineered items –

demand a rigorous process which delivers

sustainable performance benefits. Integra

Packaging has developed a protocol which

references the best practice packaging

response – internationally, through its alliance

partners. Access to global resources in

packaging R&D, manufacturing and supply

management, allows Integra to provide

unparalleled capability and service. This is how

we achieve that outcome:

Cost take-out implementation

If logistics can be described as the art of

supplying the right item/right place/right time

at the most efficient cost, what could be the

packaging logistics definition? Integra believes

the Packaging Logistics approach includes

the whole supply chain, from raw material

producer to end-user - and reverse logistics.

“Integra understands that the area of

packaging and logistics is one of the biggest

opportunities to find significant cost reductions

- while improving performance, efficiency and

environmental stewardship” said Roger Till, MD

The essential questions to explore are:

- what are the Objectives of packaging - and,

- what are the Goals of packaging logistics.

Packaging Logistics Objectives

The functions and objectives must be

comprehensive - and include:

• product protection • ease of handling &

storage • shipping effectiveness

• manufacturing efficiency • ease of identification

• fulfill customer needs • environmental benefits

• and at lowest TOTAL COST.

Goals: nil damage and cost-take-out

Ferra Engineering has engaged the services

of Integra Packaging to review existing

supply chain and logistics flows of high-end

aerospace parts being transported within

Australia and overseas. From this review,

they have re-designed the packaging with

the goal of nil damage using both innovative

and cutting edge products and technology.

“We expect to see cost take-out from

productivity improvements, no reprocessing

and a reduction in the number of packaging

materials currently being purchased. With

the added bonus of improved branding and

quicker turnaround at our sub-contractors.

We are extremely happy with the new

packaging solution”.

At Hexham, Newcastle NSW - Integra

was asked to prepare and wrap a DM300

mobile bolter for export to China via sea

freight. Rob Hanly, Inbound /Outbound

Logistics Manager and Chris Southon,

Stores Manager for Sandvik, have worked

as a team on this packaging solution for

their business.

They believe that with Grant Eldridge and

the Integra team, they are really making a

difference.

Rob said; “Spares are the focus of the logistics

business and we saw a real cost benefit not

only to Sandvik but also the relationship with

our customers. With this new standard offering

we have not only increased the shelf life of the

product being delivered to the customer we

have also reduced warranty claims, LPS, and

general degradation of the product within the

Logistics / DI store.”

In early 2010 Sandvik saw a need to improve

the standard packaging of both parts and

capital equipment from the current methods

used within the Logistics and Soft Rock

divisions located at Hexham PU (NSW,

Australia). Approaching Integra Packaging

after researching their product, they were

offered packaging solutions and introduced to

Intercept Technology™.

For capital equipment this saw a real benefit as

most large equipment is often stowed above

deck during sea voyage. Sandvik are currently

costing this technology for capital equipment

from the Assembly centre in Jiading (China) to

home bases world wide.

“We believe that this will be a positive step

moving forward in the future. It shows

customers not only our commitment to them,

but also the environment. Sandvik is embracing

new technology to ensure and maintain our

leadership and position within the global

market” said Rob Hanly.

Sandvik Underground Mining Flameproof

Equipment, a division of Sandvik Mining and

Construction Australia (Production/Supply) Pty Ltd.

NSW Industry and Investment held

a breakfast event to feature the

Shoalhaven, and Integra Packaging were

asked to present. Many Shoalhaven

manufacturing industry leaders attended

this Manufacturing Week event, which

also focused on creation of jobs in the

Shoalhaven.

(John Lamont is head of the Shoalhaven

Business Chamber.)

Industry & Investment NSW invited Integra

Packaging to be part of the event program

that featured five manufacturers operating in

the region, because of the leadership Integra

shows in the areas of innovation, customer

service and marketing. The success of

the event was in showcasing businesses

that, although diverse in product, markets,

size and structure, proved the premise

that manufacturing is alive and well in the

Shoalhaven.

Tony Dyer, Integra NSW GM talks about

the event:

“I explained that (alongside our range of

packaging technologies) we continue to

produce traditional packaging products, as part

of a comprehensive packaging solution. We

ask a lot of questions about the requirements

- which then form part of our brief. In

collaboration with our customers, we then work

on a solution - not just assume that a particular

product is right for the job”.

Closer to the overall Integra strategy: some

of the challenges faced are around training,

with the nature of the business moving from

traditional (drop through the fax) orders, to

sourcing companies to do a Packaging Audit.

With this information Integra uses global

knowledge and alliances to take cost out of

their customer’s supply chain. Integra support

a Cert III in Process Manufacturing for the

whole factory team, and Frontline MGT IV for

key staff - as part of its training regime.

Tony said; “we place great importance on

relevant membership and relationships with

Business Chambers, Governments at all levels

and sector alliances. We also proactively

engage the sustainability side of business and

support Clean Up Australia and the Business

Treading Lightly Program.”

Challenge: John Pfeiffer from Ashtons

Removals was looking to move out of his

furniture storage shed in Southport Gold

Coast QLD and into a large open style shed

at Coomera QLD. He was looking at the

timber module storage system to maximize the

new shed’s storage space, improve storage

customer satisfaction and improve productivity

- all in a short period of time.

Solution: Integra Packaging manufactured,

delivered and assembled 100 structurally

certified bolt- together modules at Ashtons new

Coomera depot, three weeks after receiving

their order.

Results: The 100 modules were assembled

at the Ashton’s site over a 4 day period. John

was very happy with quality and the timber

storage module concept. The delivery and

onsite assembly service provided by Integra

allowed the Ashton’s team to concentrate on

removals and moving the furniture from their

other storage sites into the modules and into

the new Coomera site.

From Ashton’s point of view, the results speak

for themselves. From ‘open stack storage’

to an efficient, stackable module-enclosed

solution; better furniture protection and

maximized utilization of floorspace is now

a reality. John Pfeiffer said; “Cost reduction

was the key. Plus the fact that we can sell the

concept to customers. They love the fact that

their belongings have travelled without the risks

associated with multiple handling. It takes five

minutes to load versus one hour with loose-

stack. Loss of goods is virtually eliminated;

it minimizes damage and is a secure, tidy

solution”.

Sean Clark, Senior Sales Executive with

Integra Packaging QLD says “I have attended

the last 4 events and have made some great

contacts throughout the local Mackay industry

which supports the mining industry. BBMC

holds luncheons bi-monthly; the speakers

are interesting, informative and relevant to the

mining industry.”

Jodie Currie, BBMC Director said “It’s

about opening up communications and the

generation of new business. We facilitate

direct access to supply personnel via our

BBMC events, to help people be ahead of new

regional projects coming on-line.”

This year Integra Packaging is represented

on the Defence and Industry Study Course

(DISC) by QLD GM, Alistair Johnston. DISC

aims to bring Defence & Industry together,

helping decision makers gain a better

understanding of how each side operates.

An important part of the Course is the effort to

raise funds for Legacy. This year Alistair has

urged Matt Hill (2009 Integra DISC participant)

to use his Sydney Westlink M7 marathon event,

as a fundraising tool for the Course. This will

be Matt’s first marathon and possibly his last

so his target will be solely to “Complete is to

Win”. Matt said “If I can do the 42km course in

4hours 30min I would be happy”. Ironically the

32km mark of the course is the Light Horse

interchange of the M7/M2 freeway junction.

Today Legacy’s caring and compassionate

service assists over 100,000 widows and

1900 children and dependants with a disability.

Legacy is a voluntary organisation supported

by veterans, servicemen and women, and

volunteers drawn from all walks of life. Our

support and services now extend to include the

dependants of members of today’s Australian

Defence Force who lose their lives through

military service.

SDCOM - Steve Drury Communications

As an external advisor to Integra Packaging,

we place great importance on Stakeholder

Response as part of taking the ‘market pulse’

that guides our communication planning.

We can all easily fall into the trap of simply

believing our own PR (as the saying goes) - but

taking the opportunity to ‘test’ this in real-

time is critical to any effective market contact

program. Our recent Brand Health enquiry

informed and enlightened all of us - across

all Stakeholder Groups tested; management,

staff, shareholders, customers, suppliers and

advisors. The breadth of opinion provided

comprehensive feedback - and findings

inform our current input to the Integra forward

activity program. The modest investment in the

‘study’ easily pays for itself through improved

practice, better market engagement, CRM

benefits - and even operational improvements.

The opportunity to correct ‘blind spots’ and

re-visit previous strategies under scrutiny of

respondent feedback - is a critical take-out of

this exercise. Respondents are able to remain

anonymous - allowing candid response and a

non-biased evaluation. Findings are detailed

and key observations are summarised in a final

report-back.

brand health check, please contact:

When Integra Packaging (previously as Box

Built) took over the old Sheldons company

more than five years ago, Dudley Cornish

who was 75 at the time, asked “what’s the

Company’s attitude to geriatrics”! As Chairman,

John Fisher OAM recalls “I said to him, if you

come to work here and are happy and able to

keep coming, you’ve got a job for as long as

you want one.”

At Integra, Dudley’s role was unique in that he

spent significant work time on our clients’ site,

core cutting at Australian Paper. This client-

facing role was important to our company;

he did it well and earned the respect of APM

through this role. NSW General Manager, Tony

Dyer said; “with an old-style work ethic, Dudley

came to work even on the odd occasion

he was sick. In total, Dudley worked with

Sheldons, then Box Built / Integra Packaging for

over 30 years”!

John Fisher said “age is no limitation in our

Company. I’m proud of Dudley, and I’m proud

of a company that allows and encourages

senior employees. It’s a message we want to

send to others - that respect and valuing older-

age skills, pays off”.

Integra decided it didn’t want retirement to

mean the end of Dudley’s engagement with the

Company and the Board has granted him some

shares to ensure his involvement is recognised.
