IMA IMBSS Advantages

• Direct synthesis application (direct assigning of numerical values to the entire operation band without subcarrier

changeover) provides no need for tune up but for the system parameters’ stability (and adequacy), reduces the frequency retuning and very much the setting up time (though the equipment requires but software installation).

• Programmed processing algorithms will enable the operation mode and emission class augmentation without hardware improvements.

• Disuse of analogue voice channels as well as the analogue-to-digital voice conversion at source and sophisticated vocoder encoding will enable prudent use of the onboard network, system improvement, rendering of new services (video link communication, e.g.) to the users and bring down the Intercoms equipment total weight.

• IP based component transfer distributed system provides for enhancing the system flexibility and range of services provided for the aircrew and aircraft passengers (conferencing, public telephone network connection and

video link soon to come).

• Standard modules and broad bandwidth system bus will enable an easy radio channel growth. Smaller

planes and light helicopters may have the IMA core crate module installation.

• Digital processing equipment and power amplifier separation allows bringing the PA closer to the antenna thus reducing the RF cable losses and PA modification costs ( as well as the certification costs).

• The redundancy arrangement in operation allows a redundant channel terminating equipment configuration with a

backup set as well as a one PA per two DSP modules and one DSP module per two PAs operation. It does bear an

analogy to the standard (federal) arrangement in that it is the radio station subunit redundancy configuration.

• It allows a concurrent two PA-DSP module reception on three (or more) independent frequencies. Hence, a five-channel configuration will enable a concurrent 15 frequency reception
