1. Introduction

Welcome to the 8thseason of the Intel Speed Demon Karting League!

This document outlines the key rules and information that you need to understand to take part in the

league, but most importantly have fun.

1.1 Timelines

The league runs 4 seasons per year (Winter, Spring, Summer, Fall) with one of the 4 seasons being

hosted as a one day GPTW event.

Full dates and the league information are always available at http://goto/oregonkarting. Each new

League Season you just need to register your entry on the registration website:

http://intel.raceoffline.com/.

1.2 Classes

There are 3 classes available to compete in: Rookie, Clubman, and Premier.

Times below are estimates and are subject to change.

Rookie is recommended for beginner drivers and those that have little to no

experience in racing. With the current track layout, if two of your drivers can

complete a lap in <29 seconds then you are too fast for Rookie! Rookie races

are 30 minutes in duration. These will use the 6HP Karts. You can also race

in Rookie if you do not make the cut in Clubman.

Clubman is recommended for experienced kart racers or racers that have

been promoted from the Rookie class. Your team members should be able to

complete a lap on the current Sykart track in <28.5 seconds to compete in

this class. Clubman races are 45 minutes in duration. These will use the 6HP

Karts.

Premier class races in the faster 9hp karts. Each or your team members must

have qualified to race in these karts with Sykart in order to compete in this

class. Enquire with Sykart for qualification requirements. Premier races are

45 minutes in duration.

1.3 Team Structure and Eligilibilty

If not all team members can attend all races, see Section 1.5 for how to find a replacement. If your team

does not have three drivers for the race you will still able to participate, but will be automatically

disqualified and receive NO points or for the one day event you will not be able to advance to the finals.

The “Regular” drivers for a team are defined by drivers who competed in a minimum of 3 races with that

team.

The league is open to all Intel Employees (a.k.a. “Blue Badge”) and to Interns (either Blue Badge or Green

Badge).

1.3.1 Rookie Teams

There are a maximum of 20 teams and 60 drivers. Each team must be made up of three drivers. The

team will nominate one driver as the Team Captain in order to serve as a single point of contact for the

club to contact the team.

1.3.2 Clubman Teams

Registration: Potential drivers will register on the website with their personal best lap time in a 6HP

kart and their current race weight (clothed with helmet). Drivers may register as part of a team (2 or 3

people) or as an individual entry to be assigned to a team later. Drivers that are also driving on Premier

Team may not register as part of a team with other Premier drivers.

Eligibility: Drivers must have competed in at least one season in the Rookie league.

Captains: Team Captains will be selected based on a calculation of their fastest lap and their weight as

recorded on the website at registration.

Teams: There is a maximum of 14 teams and 42 drivers. 3 team spots are reserved for teams

promoted from last season’s Rookie League. The top 33 drivers will be selected from the registration

list to participate plus the 9 individuals from the 3 promoted Rookie teams. At the first night’s race, any

unassigned drivers will be selected into teams by the Team Captains.

1.3.3 Premier Teams

Registration: Potential drivers will register on the website with their personal best lap time in a 9HP

kart and their current race weight (clothed with helmet). Note that you will not be registering for a

team just as an individual driver.

Eligibility: Drivers must be 9hp qualified by Sykart (see the front desk for details) and have competed in

at least one season in the Clubman league.

Captains: Team Captains will be selected based on a calculation of their fastest lap and their weight as

recorded on the website at registration.

Teams: There is a maximum of 10 teams and 30 drivers. The top 30 drivers will be selected from the

registration list to participate. The drivers remaining after Team Captain selection will be selected into

teams by the Team Captains on the first night. Drivers will be classified into one of three weight

categories: under 180lbs., 180-200lbs. and over 200lbs. Teams will be composed of a driver from each

of the three categories.

1.4 Pricing, Payments and Registration

Availability is on a first come, first served basis. Register ASAP to ensure your team has a spot.

Registration is available at: http://intel.raceoffline.com/ . To see full pricing please refer to

http://goto/oregonkarting Payment is required in Full at the first race.

Team Captains: It is your responsibility to register your team and assign individuals at

http://intel.raceoffline.com/ unless registering as an individual.

This season, we are continuing to allow you to run in both Clubman and Premier teams!

Depending on sign up, there will be a limitation of 10 Premier Drivers allowed to run dual classes.

If additional Premier drivers are signed up then we will pull a random ballet to select indiciduals.

1.5 Substitutions

1.5.1 General Limitations

A minimum of 1 of the “regular” drivers must be present each week.

If you are substituting on a Premier team, you must be 9HP qualified (see the Sykart website) and you

must be able to drive a <28.5s lap time.

Regular drivers in Clubman and Premier cannot substitute into teams in their own class.

Rookie teams may not use Clubman or Premier drivers for substitutes.

1.5.2 Premier Driver Limitations

Premier drivers driving on a Clubman team are limited to a maximum of 38 laps.

Any Premier driving on a Clubman team cannot participate in Qualifying during the first week unless all

members are Premier drivers, if this is the case, the slowest Premier driver will drive for qualifying.

Premier drivers used to backup clubman teams may only substitute into a team for a maximum of 2

races otherwise they become a regular team member and are ineligible to drive for other teams in the

same class. (Rule 1.5.1)

2. Race Day

This section describes what to expect on race day. If there are any questions at the track, please ask a

race official for clarification.

2.1 Kart Selection

At the beginning of each race, karts will be randomly assigned. Once a kart has been used by the team,

it will be excluded for use by that team in subsequent races until the final.

2.2 Start Order

NOTE: The driver that qualifies for the team will ALWAYS start the race.

Race 1:

o All teams will need to arrive on time, complete registration and payment by no later than 6:00

pm. (Please arrive by 5-5.30 the first week due to the driver briefing and team selection)

o Clubman/Premier Classes – There will be two combined Clubman/Premier run groups. Placement

in these groups will be by random drawing ahead of the event with seeded teams in different

pools. Group 1 will run from 6:00-6:45pm and Group 2 will run 7:00-7:45pm. Qualification will

take place in Race 1 for both groups.

o Rookie Class – There will be two Rookie-only run groups. Placement in these groups will be by

random drawing ahead of the event. Qualification will take place for each group.

Races 2-4:

o Clubman/Premier Classes – The grid will be set by inverting the finishing positions of the

previous event. If your team was black flagged during the first 5 laps of the previous race or

your team did not run the previous event, your team will start from the back of the grid,

regardless of finishing position.

o Rookie Class – There will be qualifying laps every week, you may run in either the first or

second run group and will be notified ahead of your arrival.

Final Race:

o Clubman/Premier Classes – The top 5 Premier teams and the top 7 Clubman teams will

advance to the finals.

o Rookie Class – The top 10 teams will advance to the finals.

Teams not advancing to the finals will receive a 10min race credit at Sykart per person.

Intel GPTW Karting Rules

9

o Start order for the finals will be determined by your top 3 regular season scores with the

highest scoring team starting first. Ties for grid position will be broken in the following order:

number of wins, total score for all 4 races, then fast lap times. If your team was black flagged

in the first 5 Laps of the previous event, your team will start from the end of the grid

regardless of your season points.

2.3 Weight Requirements

All teams must be at least 600lbs for the 3 teams members combined. This will include helmets and any

other gear worn during the race. If the total team weight is less than 600lbs the weight the difference

is divided by 3 and applied to the kart. See examples below for further explanation.

A scale will be made available to teams prior to the night’s race. Weight can be added to the kart in 5lb

increments up to 40lb maximum. If the team is averaging below 29s, they may be required by the

Event Chair to apply additional ballast at future events. No loose weights are permitted on the karts.

Official weight measurements will be performed immediately after the conclusion of the night’s race

using a scale provided by Sykart. Any underweight teams will be disqualified from the standings for the

night’s race. There is no penalty for being overweight other than being overweight.

Scenario A:

Individual A 170lbs + Individual B 180lbs + Individual C 220lbs = 570lbs

600lbs – 570lbs = 30lbs / 3 = 10lbs applied to the kart for the race.

Scenario B:

Individual A 161lbs + Individual B 165lbs + Individual C 196lbs = 524lbs

600lbs – 522lbs = 78lbs / 3 = 26lbs (round up to 30lbs) applied to the kart for the race.

Scenario C:

Individual A 200lbs + Individual B 180lbs + Individual C 220lbs = 600lbs

600lbs – 600lbs = 0lbs / 3 = 0lbs applied to the kart for the race.

2.4 Lap Requirements

A minimum number of laps must be completed by each driver.

Rookie: 15 laps

Clubman: 20 laps

Premier: 30 laps

If any driver fails to complete the minimum required for their class then that team will be disqualified

from the race.

2.5 Flags

Start the race!

One Lap Remaining in Race

Race is over! Slow down and enter the pits

Caution ahead. No Passing. Penalties applied for any passes. Please

continue slowly pass the incident but do NOT stop, full race speed after

incident.

Stop immediately. No passing or entering the pits. The race will be

regridded and restarted.

Move over and allow a faster kart to pass. (Especially when 9HP are in

same race) Ignoring a Blue flag more than 3 times could see you get a

Black flag.

Blue/Black point. Warning of a bad pass. Give the position back

immediately.

Black point. Warning. You did something wrong. If repeated you will be

black flagged. Acknowledge the flag and continue.

You did something seriously wrong. Pit immediately. No driver change is

allowed.

Intel GPTW Karting Rules

11

2.6 Pit Stops

To perform a driver swap, the current driver must enter the pits and stop in one of the two available pit

boxes. If both boxes are full, then the driver must wait until it is free to pull up and perform the driver

swap. The incoming driver may not enter the pit area until their kart comes to a full stop in the pit box.

While in the pit area the kart speed must be kept to a walking pace. Any speeding or reckless driving will

result in a black flag (requiring an additional pit stop) or an extended delay before re-entering the race at

the discretion of the race officials. No modifications of the seat belt retractor mechanism, seat belt

attachment mechanism or the seat belt are permitted.

As there are three drivers per team, a minimum of 2 pit stops will be performed by each team each race.

When calculating lap counts the driver entering the race will count the pit lap as theirs. The second

driver claims the first pit lap, the third driver claims the second pit lap.

When performing a pit stop in response to a black flag, pull into the pit box and wait for further

instructions. A race official will talk with the driver to explain the reason for the black flag. No driver

changes are allowed when performing a pit stop for a black flag.

3. Post Race

This section covers how the league is scored and what to expect off the track. Any questions can be

directed to [email protected].

3.1 Scoring

The series is arranged into five races; four normal races and one final. In each race points will be

awarded per the following table.

A bonus point will be awarded to the team that records the fastest single lap each race per race class. In

the final race, all point rewards, including the bonus for fast lap, are doubled.

Each team will drop the lowest score earned in the first four races. (Best 3 results to count)

After each race, an email will be sent out summarizing the night’s events and updating the point

standings. Scores and standings will also be posted to the event website http://intel.raceoffline.com/

Intel GPTW Karting Rules

13

3.2 Protests

We hope that there are no protests but things happen! If you would like to lodge a complaint or

suggestion, or have a question, that could affect the race standings you must send an email to

[email protected] within 48 hours of the race report being sent out. The exception to this is

for the Final where protests must be filed with the Event Organizer in person prior to the final points

being tallied.

3.3 Awards

Awards will be presented at the end of the final race.

Trophies will be awarded to the top three teams in each class. These are “perpetual trophies” and will

need to be returned at the end of the next season.

Medals will be awarded to the 3 “regular drivers” on the top three teams. These are yours to keep.
