Mampaey intelligent Multi Safety LinkThe Mampaey intelligent Multi Safety Link is a next-generation LNG safetycommunication link. It features unique new technologies and advancedfunctionalities, and complies with global communication standards in the LNGmarket. Due to strict regulations regarding fuel emission levels, marine transportationis increasingly starting to use LNG, which is a clean fuel that also lowers operationalcosts. This is resulting in further development and expansion of the LNG supply chain.terminals and carriers throughout the world.
The Mampaey intelligent Multi Safety Link (iMSL) is a multifunctional state-of-the-artsolution for safety communications. Suitable for both large and small-scale LNGdistribution and bunkering, it is the ideal solution for bridging the gap between globalbulk LNG distribution networks and the emerging downstream market. Thanks to itsinnovative features and design elements, the iMSL is ready to meet and surpass futurecustomer demands.

The redundant iMSL solution is a high-end ship-to-shore link system applicable for the global LNG distribution market, including LNG carriers, FSRUs, FLNG, LNG regasification, and liquefaction terminals. The Control Modules contain all the functions & intelligence required to facilitate multiple safety links, such as pneumatic, vantage, Miyaki-Denki, fibre-optic and SIGTTO. Connecting both Control Modules through link loopback provides full functional indoor pre-berth end-to-end testing capabilities on ship and shore installations.
FULL FUNCTIONAL END TO END TESTING & BACKUPCombining a second iMSL Control Module with the Test Module enables customers to perform a full functional pre-berth end-to-end test. The Control Module is capable of dynamic near-reality simulation of communication between LNG terminals & LNG carriers. This provides customers with advanced testing capabilities prior to LNG carrier berthing, which greatly enhances functional end-to-end testing. Testing the correct functioning of all critical ESD functions and voice communication systems can now be done entirely indoors with the Mampaey iMSL. The test equipment is integrated in the SSL cabinet, reducing the risk of loss and defects and relegating heavy mobile test equipment to the past.

The iMSL solution is used for LNG bunker vessels & LNG bunker stations. It comprises one Control Module that contains all the functions and intelligence required to facilitate multiple safety links, including pneumatic, vantage, Miyaki-Denki, fibre-optic and SIGTTO. The Control Module can perform a self-test of both its hardware and software. Loopback connectors also enable it to perform a health check on the communication infrastructure, e.g. fixed wiring and umbilicals. The iMSL solution has a Power Module that provides a redundant power supply with an AC mains power input and an AC or DC backup power input.

The iMSL Control Module includes an on-board computer that reinforces the graphical user interface presented on an industrial capacitive touchscreen. The touchscreen (16:9 / 12.1” across) has a high degree of brightness, high colour contrast, a ultra-wide viewing angle and a broad operation temperature range to ensure that critical information is clearly displayed and visible in diverse environmental conditions. The graphical user interface provides all the functionality required to allow users to easily configure, activate and monitor the safety link.

iMSL Pneumatic Safety LinkThe iMSL facilitates an safety Link over a pneumatic connection. Together with the iMSL Pneumatic Module, this allows a fully automatic pneumatic link to be established.
Pneumatic linkThe pneumatic link, which can be traced back to the early 1970s, is the oldest safety link in existence. It involves an air-hose transmitting a ship-to-ship or ship-to-shore signal. A pressurised hose indicates a safe system, while a depressurised hose can indicate either an unsafe situation or a disconnected hose. In current implementations, the pneumatic link is often used as a backup link for either electric or fibre-optic links.
The Mampaey iMSL combines this 40-year-old technology with state-of-the-art 21st-century electronics and SIL2 design and implementation. The Pneumatic Safety Link has been designed to meet all SIGTTO specifications and is compatible with all existing pneumatic links currently installed.
Pneumatic moduleThe iMSL Pneumatic Module uses two Ex transducers to monitor both input and umbilical pressure. These types of pressure are continuously monitored and displayed in the iMSL GUI. In the event of a pressure drop below the trip level, the iMSL will signal its local Central Control Room that there has been an ESD trip. The iMSL can send an ESD by de-powering its internal Ex solenoid. This results in a pressure drop which is detected by the remote party.
An all-weather, stainless steel, marine-coated pneumatic reel will be installed alongside the Pneumatic Module.

iMSL Electrical Safety LinkThe iMSL facilitates an safety link over an electrical connection as specified by SIGTTO
Electrical linkThe electrical link was introduced in the late 1980s to respond to the recognised limitations of the pneumatic link and the need for additional information during the LNG cargo transfer operation. Loading arm information, Mooring Load Monitoring data, telephony and additional control signals were added to the electrical link to make it a complete and versatile communication link. The iMSL Electrical link was designed to meet SIGTTO requirements, is fully compatible with existing ship-to-shore link installations and the design is based on SIL2. All ESD signals transmitted over the iMSL Electric Link are intrinsically safe. An electrical loopback path allows for a full functional pre-berth test.
Automatic Pin ConfiguratorTo allow LNG carriers to adapt to the diversity of pin configurations in the field, the iMSL has an ingenious way of automatically switching its output and input pins on the 37-way Vantage Technology connector. The iMSL Automatic Pin Configurator function allows the operator to choose a predefined or user-defined pin layout which will adjust the pin layout
accordingly within seconds, all without the aid of a screwdriver or tools.
Fibre-optic linkIn the 1990s, the Japanese company Furukawa launched a new type of safety link: the fibre-optic link. The specifications for this link are now part of the SIGTTO specifications. The iMSL system meets these requirements and is fully compatible with any existing Furukawa or equivalent compatible ship-to-shore link system. A fibre-optic loopback path allows for a full functional pre-berth test. The fibre-optic link functionality is a standard feature in the iMSL module and does not require any additional hardware. A six-core fibre allows the transmission of ESD signals, Mooring Load Monitoring information and telephony. The fibre-optic signal strength is constantly monitored and displayed on the iMSL GUI. This enables the operator to easily detect any contamination on the fibre-optical ferrules themselves.
iMSL Fibre-Optic safety LinkThe iMSL facilitates an safety link over a fibre-optic connection as specified by SIGTTO
PAGE 10
iMSL Voice Communication The iMSL facilitates the Mampaey Hotphone, private and public line voice communication for the Vantage / Miyaki-Denki electrical link and fibre-optic link.
Voice Communication Recording The iMSL Control Module is capable of recording all voice communications managed by the Control Module. These recordings can afterwards be used for reviewing, analysis or training purposes.
This includes: • Fully automated voice communication recording function. • Telephone conversations are stored as files, separately identified and easily traceable.• Simultaneous recording of multiple telephone conversations, including the Hotphone channel. • Export of voice recordings to portable data storage (e.g. a USB memory stick).• Voice recordings are can be replayed with any standard media player on any computer. • Automatic voice recording clean up function.
Mampaey HotphoneThe Mampaey Hotphone is a weather-resistant, heavy-duty wall or desktop-mounted phone system built to withstand severe environmental conditions. The dial-less Hotphone is used with LNG ship-to-shore links and is fully compatible with the now obsolete Iwatsu TS3 unit used on Furukawa ship-to-shore communications systems. The Hotphone is compatible with all Furukawa systems and all other Furukawa-compatible systems. It can operate in both private line mode and hotline (Iwatsu) mode.
