Indonesia’s Food & Beverage Industry

The food and beverages sector is where Indonesia’s local compa-nies have made a mark in value added products both domestically and worldwide. The growth of the sector in Indonesia is powered by rising incomes and increased spending on food by the middle class. This consumption increase associated with higher spending is go-ing hand by hand with the trend of lifestyle urbanization and more varied diet which is supported by the development of retail infra-structure of malls and hyper marts.

Healthy eating and frozen foods

Adapting to trends will be crucial as Indonesia’s eating culture remains in flux. One of the major trends is a growing health consciousness among Indonesia’s young population, which creates opportunities for products such as nutritional drinks or cereals enhanced with vitamins and minerals. Convenience foods are also benefitting from urbanisa-tion and the growing office workforce. Ready-to-drink coffee and tea is seeing particularly fast growth, while fruit/vegetable juices as well as sports/energy drinks are also outperforming.
