8th Annual Tribal Caregiver Conference “Honoring the Cultural Spirit of Family Caregiving”

October 31 – November 1, 2012 Flagstaff, Arizona

Come join us for this year’s 8th Annual Tribal Family Caregiver Conference, to be held at the Radisson Woodlands Hotel in Flagstaff, Arizona, on October 31 and November 1, 2012. The theme for this year is: “Honoring the Cultural Spirit of Family Caregiving.” In recognition of the “National Family Caregiver Month,” this annual event brings together tribal caregivers, grandparents raising grandchildren, tribal leaders, service providers, and many of those who advocate on behalf of American Indian caregivers by increasing their knowledge and skills about caregiving and caregiver wellness. Inter Tribal Council of Arizona, Inc., Area Agency on Aging, Region 8, will be offering non-paid family caregivers and tribal caregiver programs with training, information and resources to improve home-based care in tribal communities. Non-paid caregivers can learn how to deal with:

• One’s physical and psychological health. • Current and future employment status and earning capability. • Ability to balance the needs of older parents and younger family members. • One’s ability to meet personal needs.

Who should attend?

• If you are a family caregiver who is providing care to an individual 60 years or older; • If you are a Grandparent, 55 years of age or older, being the primary caregiver to a child 18 years of age and

younger, or a disabled individual between 19 and 59 years of age; • If you need to enhance how to care for an older family member; • If you are a non-paid caregiver and interested in receiving information to better care for yourself; • If you want to locate resources and services to support or help your role as a family caregiver; and, • If you want to learn how to self-advocate.

Come join other elders, caregivers and program staff and learn from health care professionals, local service programs and community support groups about practical hands-on-methods for caring for individuals who are 60 years and older. About the Conference This year, early Registration will begin on Wednesday, at 1:00 P.M. followed by the Opening ceremonies at 3:00 P.M. The conference participants receive information from a motivational speaker with an evening social event following. The following day will begin with some physical activities, continental breakfast, keynote address and speakers on topics relating to caregiving. Exhibit / vendor booths from various agencies will be on-site. A recognition luncheon will honor tribal caregivers and conference sponsors. The conference is open to all caregivers - those receiving care, community professionals, and anyone who is interested in learning more about caregiving and community resources. There is no registration fee for non-paid caregivers and grandparents.
