The Lost Generation is a group of American writers in the early part of the 20th century. They were morally opposed to America’s values during World War I and World War II. Therefore, each of the authors spent a large amount of time living outside of America. European artists, writers, philosophers, and other prominent citizens heavily influenced the first contemporary American writers.

Due to the recent current events concerning America’s war on terrorism, the collected works by each of the Lost Generation have mysteriously disappeared. There is reason to believe that an international terrorist is responsible for this crime against American literature. Luckily, we have been able to contact you to aid with this dilemma. The quest which you are about to embark on, will involve researching online three of the authors that will be given.

Discuss issues involving contemporary life that you think the three writers would feel passionately about. Hyperlinks will be given to aid in your task. Your quest essay should be double-spaced and three to four pages long. Also, you may reference your authors’ literature that you have already read or that you can find in your text. Focus on the three authors’ works and personal writing styles, that shed light on their personal views on politics and society. Three-fourths of your work should be involved with the discussion of the authors’ writings, and the remainder should discuss the hypothetical views of the authors related to current events. Choose three authors from the following list: T.S. Eliot, Ezra Pound, Gertrude Stein, Ernest Hemingway, William Faulkner, F. Scott Fitzgerald, and E. E. Cummings. This particular WebQuest is designed to show how writers of the past have the ability to be applied in the present time. The validity of these messages does not fade; even though, it has almost been sixty years since this literature was published. Students should have realized at least half-way through the mission that people’s reactions to what goes on in society and politics usually remains the same. The person working on this quest is probably able to make a connection to the messages that he or she reads about from sixty years ago, with the contemporary statements of today. The importance of being actively aware of what is going on in the world cannot be stressed enough. Please continue on your journey for seeking the truth.
