Project Description:

The government of North Rhine-Westphalia set up its Department of Cultural Integration and Further Educationin 2002 as a reaction to the increasingly diverse character of the region's population, where 23% of thepopulation have an immigrant background. The internet platform www.nrw-kulturen.de was developed in thiscontext.

The platform provides news and information on the cultural activities of immigrant communities, groups andindividual artists and on policy developments of special interest for intercultural dialogue. Its main feature is adata base of artists, cultural managers, cultural consultants and intercultural organisations in North Rhine-Westphalia.

Lessons to be Learned:

The platform is part of the integration policy developed by the government of the Land of North Rhine-Westphalia. It acknowledges the changing demography of the Land and provides a space to express a diversity ofartistic expression.

Target Groups:

Artists and organisation from immigrant and intercultural communities.
