How to evaluate a source?
• What date was it written in?
• What type of source is it?
• How did the source come into existence– Who created the source? (social position)– Do they have a vested interest?
• Is the author in a position in society to provide reliable information on a particular topic? (Credentials)
• What does the document mean to contemporaries- could the document be misinterpreted?
Inference
• An inference is an educated guess based on the information you have collected
• Make a chart in your book:Activity you did this morning
One object you used to complete that activity
Was that object made by yourself
Was the object made by others?
Interdependence
• Humans live in groups in society because they can best meet their needs and wants by working with other members of society.

• Since humans live in groups and must interact with others within the society, we set up systems called social organizations to help us better meet our needs and wants by providing order and establishing rules to regulate human behaviour.
Types of Organizations and their purpose
Specific Social Organizations in our society have different purposes. They are essential because we need groups that hold more power in society to:• Help maintain peace• Make decisions• Create a meaning and purpose to life• Organize people into an orderly society.
Family
To provide for needs of adults and children.
Families contribute to keeping our population growing.
Education
To transmit culture from one generation to another and to aid in the socialization process.
Political Organization
To meet the needs of making collective decisions
Economic Organizations
To produce and distribute goods and services
Religious or Cultural Organizations
To create a sense of meaning or purpose for life.
To provide civilization with rules to build moralsand establish laws.
