Manual1 Interference Emission Categories 1.1 Field of application

The EMC product standard EN 61800-3 (Variable speed drives, part 3: EMC require-ments including special test methods) defines electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) re-quirements for drive systems (PDS - Power Drive Systems). It applies to drive systemsthat are operated in residential, business and industrial areas.With respect to interference emission of drive systems, the standard differentiates be-tween four categories (C1 ... C4).

The drive systems of SEW-EURODRIVE can be equipped with different EMC measuresdepending on the operational environment. For details on this and other detailed infor-mation about EMC-compliant installation, please refer to the respective unit documen-tation.

1.2 Notes on project planningCategory C1 to EN 61800-3 corresponds to limit value class B according to EN 55011.Categories C2 or C3 to EN 61800-3 correspond to the limit value class A according toEN 55011. Category C4 only applies for industrial power supply systems that exceedAC 1000 V and AC 400 A.
